If only stunning views could save bad writing, Hotel Costiera would be the show of the year. Sadly, this Prime Video series proves that even the Mediterranean can’t hide a storytelling mess. Welcome to Hotel Costiera , Prime Video’s latest attempt to bottle up luxury, mystery, and drama in one shiny package. Set on the Amalfi Coast and starring the always watchable Jesse Williams, the series tries very hard to be sexy, stylish, and suspenseful. But here’s the catch, it mostly ends up being boring. Like luxury wallpaper with a script taped to it. Let’s break it down. Gorgeous Backdrop, Paper-Thin Plot There is no denying it. Hotel Costiera  looks expensive. The setting is jaw-dropping. The hotel feels like an Instagram influencer’s dream. The clothes are crisp, the sea is sparkling, and every wide shot screams “wish you were here.” But once you stop gawking at the scenery, you're left with a story that moves slower than off-season tourism in Positano. The premise sounds spicy enough: a former U.S. Marine turned fixer helps out rich guests and investigates a disappearance. Daniel “DD” De Luca (Williams), returns to Italy to help wealthy guests at an ultra luxury hotel and is soon dragged into the mystery of Alice, the hotel owner’s daughter who vanished a month earlier. But the mystery unfolds with all the tension of a lukewarm prosecco. You’ll see every twist coming from a mile away and not just because the cliffs are high.  You think you’ll unearth secrets; instead you often just dig up clichés: ex‑military trauma, shady guests, mysterious staff. All fine tropes, but overused enough here that they feel less like tension and more like expected beats in a formula. Jesse Williams Deserves Better Jesse Williams brings charisma and leading-man energy, but even he looks like he's trying to remember why he said yes to this. He can carry the burden of an action lead, look good while doing it, and carry some internal conflict. But even he can’t fully elevate scenes when the writing doesn’t support him. Dialogue often leans into exposition or mood rather than depth. Supporting cast members are attractive, polished, and competent but many fade into the scenery when the plot really needs them. You expect a series with a missing‑daughter plot to deliver complex relationships. Here we get some family tension, hints of loyalty & betrayal, but very little in the way of surprising character arcs. There is no shortage of potential: Daniel’s dual identity (Italian‑American, military vs civilian) could have been a rich source. Instead it is more often a prop than a fully explored conflict. Six episodes launch together, which could mean lean storytelling. Instead you get moments where the plot stalls: people talk, tension builds, and you wait. A lot. Some twists are telegraphed. Suspense is diluted by too many glamorous pauses: sunset dinners, scenic views, beautiful interiors. They’re eye candy, yes but eye candy can’t replace strong stakes. If you’re craving edge‑of‑your‑seat thrills, there just aren’t enough. Hotel Costiera  is all vibes and no substance. It’s the TV equivalent of booking a luxury suite and discovering it comes with no WiFi. Pretty, sure. But underwhelming. The series is charming. It is gorgeous. It is very  nicely dressed. But that only gets you so far. If you binge it hoping for sharp writing, deep characters, and mystery that bites, you’ll leave wanting more. It tries to be The White Lotus  meets action thriller meets Italian romance but ends up something less than the sum of its parts. If I were you, I’d watch Hotel Costiera  for the views, the hotel, the occasional fight scene, and Jesse Williams looking conflicted under Mediterranean sun. Don’t watch expecting deep emotional upheaval or unforgettable twists, you may get those very rarely, but not often enough. Watch it for the views. Skip it for the plot.

Brilliant Minds has been one of my favorite new shows to talk about last fall. There are so many medical dramas out there and this series felt like something new. With Zachary Quinto taking on the lead as Dr. Wolfe, a doctor who saw his patients as people even with his disability of having face blindness, this show really had compelling stories in its freshman run. I was thrilled when NBC renewed it (after many months of holding my breath).  Now, one of my favorite shows is back and if episode one of this new season is any indication of what we are in store for, sign me all the way up. The episode opens with Dr. Wolfe trying to escape Hudson Oaks, a mental hospital and we get a title card saying “SIX MONTHS EARLIER” so now we will spend the season leading up to why he was admitted. I love reverse storytelling (looking at you Sinners).  Back at the hospital Nash is deep in his new ER rotation and we are introduced to the new Dr. Thorne (played by John Clarence Stewart). He seems chill with a side of he’s got a story going on but you know who is smug and annoying and will be the villain this season? Dr. Charlie Porter (played by Brian Altemus). He is more than just a plant from Oliver’s mother and I have a feeling he is the reason Wolfe ends up at that mental hospital run by none other than Dr. Frank (Bellamy Young). Whenever I see Bellamy Young, I know her character is one I will love to hate.  Oliver’s patient this week is a boxer (Tommy) with a phantom hand syndrome who cannot control his right arm and violently loses control and ends up punching himself and even doctors. In true Oliver fashion, he meets his patient where he is more comfortable. He visits the gym and gets involved in his personal life to cure what ails him. After testing and group discussions, we learn that Tommy has Parkinson's and his father and family doctor were hiding that from him so he can continue to fight.  The issues with Tommy and his father mirrored that of Oliver and his dad. Oliver had been avoiding going home and dealing with his father but also pushing his mother to order an expensive test for him to find out what is going on. It was a disappointment that we did not get to see Oliver’s dad all episode and when Oliver finally did return home, his father left him a Dear John letter. This guy definitely isn’t winning any father of the year awards anytime soon.  Some side stories I enjoyed, Erica coming back looking refreshed but taking pills to cope. Porsha Williams (Real Housewives) makes her debut this episode as a patient of Carol’s who trivial problems forces Carol to get her job back at the hospital after being put on leave. I will say I thought Porsha would be cringe in the role, but she did good. No notes Porsha.  Josh and Oliver’s will they, won’t they story continues and the sexual tension is at a peak and I am absolutely here for it. The snide comments back and forth while they clearly love each other is the type of love story that I live for. The moment when Tommy's father looked like he was going to attack Oliver and Josh came out of nowhere like a protective boyfriend and threatened him; chef's kiss. One last thing, it is always so weird to see Donna Murphy as Oliver’s mother because she is now and will always be Mrs. Astor on The Gilded Age.  Overall, a great season opener, reminding the audience why we love this show so much. Welcome back to Tulsa, where the bourbon burns as much as the bullets fly and Dwight Manfredi is still trying to play mob boss while dodging feds, frenemies, and flaming buildings. Tulsa King Season 3 Episode 1 , titled Blood and Bourbon , kicks off with all the grit, swagger, and scorched-earth energy we love from the series. This episode throws him back into the fire, literally, with a new business venture, an old-school mob threat, and a bourbon war that could rival Prohibition. Oh, and did we mention the FBI is watching his every move? Dwight Faces a New Federal Problem The episode opens with Dwight handcuffed in a dark room, sweating under a single light bulb like a scene from every classic mob movie. Enter Agent Musso , played with slick menace by Kevin Pollak, who has one goal, squeeze Dwight into becoming a puppet for the FBI. Turns out the guy Dwight mercy-killed while he was burning alive last season was Musso’s informant. Oops. Musso threatens to take down Dwight’s entire Tulsa crew, Margaret included, unless The General plays ball. Dwight is given an offer he can’t refuse, or at least, one that comes with a threat he really can’t afford to ignore. Margaret Is Not Having It After getting out of federal limbo, Dwight rushes to Margaret to do the honorable thing, dump her. He tells her she is too good for him, cue the violin. Margaret is not impressed. She storms into the casino later to call out his cowardice and declares she is sticking with him no matter how messy things get. Honestly, give this woman a medal. Or at least a backup plan. Meet Quiet Ray: The Mob Boss with the Least Subtle Name Before Dwight can even pour a bourbon, he gets summoned to New York to meet Quiet Ray , a senior mobster who wants Dwight to take a deal and retire gracefully. Or share his Tulsa profits. Or both. Basically, Ray wants a piece of the action, and Dwight flat-out refuses. Politely, but firmly. Let’s just say the New York family is not going to take rejection well. A Bourbon War Is Brewing in Tulsa Back home, the real action begins. Enter Cleo Montague , Mitch’s stunning ex and the daughter of a distillery owner. She’s trying to stop her father from selling the family bourbon business to Jeremiah Dunmire , aka the Liquor King of Tulsa and a total snake. Dwight sees opportunity, smells profit, and decides to get in the bourbon game. Despite a handshake deal with Dunmire, Dwight offers to double the price. Montague senior is tempted but afraid of crossing Dunmire. And he should be. By the end of the episode, his home is up in flames and his body is likely in a very bad state. Bodhi Has Had Enough Meanwhile, Bodhi  is spiraling. Still grieving Jimmy’s death, he ends up pistol-whipping a Kansas City thug he believes is responsible. Dwight stands by him. Good to know loyalty still counts for something in this mafia circus. Fire, Bourbon, and a Whole Lot of Trouble Tulsa King Season 3 Episode 1 Blood and Bourbon  brings everything fans love about the series, sharp writing, dangerous liaisons, and Dwight juggling mob life with his awkward attempt at morality. With the FBI closing in, new enemies rising, and the bourbon business literally exploding, this season promises plenty of chaos.
