Pennywise Returns with a Vengeance in the Chilling Full Trailer for 'IT Welcome to Derry'

A person covered in blood screams in a dimly lit room, expressing terror. A blurred light provides a warm background glow.

HBO has finally dropped the full trailer for IT Welcome to Derry and it is as creepy, unsettling, and downright bloodcurdling as you’d hope. Set decades before the events of the hit films, this prequel series promises to dig into the twisted roots of Derry’s curse and the shapeshifting evil clown that feeds on fear.

So grab your red balloons and whatever is left of your childhood innocence. Here is everything you need to know about the full trailer for IT Welcome to Derry.

The Creepy Comeback of Pennywise

Yes, you read that right. Bill Skarsgård is back as Pennywise, which is reason enough to tune in. The trailer gives fans a long overdue look at his return, teasing a more sinister version of the infamous clown. Forget jump scares. This version of Pennywise feels even more psychological and patient, as if he is savoring every moment before striking. Delightful, right?

The trailer shows him emerging from a sewer tunnel with that all-too-familiar grin and the eyes that say "I know your deepest fear." In other words, classic nightmare fuel.

A New Era of Fear in 1960s Derry

Set in 1962, the story explores the eerie beginnings of the evil that haunts Derry. We see a new group of kids, a few brave adults, and a town steeped in quiet denial about the horrors lurking beneath its surface.

There are missing children, creepy voices from drains, unsettling laughter, and what looks like a whole new cast of traumatized future therapy clients. The trailer also hints at social tension in the town, making it clear that Derry’s darkness isn’t just supernatural.

What Makes This Prequel So Intriguing

Unlike many prequels that feel like unnecessary filler, IT Welcome to Derry looks like it is actually filling in the horrifying blanks. The town's history, the origins of the curse, and the reasons why Pennywise returns every 27 years are all teased in this trailer.

More importantly, the series seems to be embracing the eerie small-town vibes of Stranger Things with the psychological horror of The Haunting of Hill House. But make no mistake — this is still 100 percent Stephen King nightmare territory.

The full trailer for IT Welcome to Derry has given fans plenty to scream about, and honestly, we’re here for it. With Skarsgård’s return, a chilling new story, and plenty of creepy visuals, this prequel series looks ready to make us all sleep with the lights on.

Are you ready to float again? If you have the courage, check out the trailer and prepare to return to the most cursed town in Maine.
