Awards season is officially underway and this year's lineup is packed with returning favorites, ambitious newcomers, and a few eyebrow raising surprises that are guaranteed to fuel debates until the winners are announced. If there is one thing the Television Academy accomplished this year, it is making sure nobody walks away completely happy. The biggest headline belongs to The Pitt, which stormed into the drama race with nominations across nearly every major category. The medical drama landed a coveted Outstanding Drama Series nomination while Noah Wyle earned recognition for Lead Actor in a Drama Series. The cast also dominated the supporting and guest acting races, proving that the Academy clearly had plenty of room for this hospital on its patient list. Newcomer Pluribus also made an impressive debut. The series secured an Outstanding Drama Series nomination along with acting nominations for Rhea Seehorn, Karolina Wydra, Carlos Manuel Vesga, Miriam Shor, and Jeff Hiller. After years of delivering acclaimed performances, Seehorn finally finds herself front and center in one of the most competitive races of the year. Meanwhile, Slow Horses, The Diplomat, Paradise, The Gilded Age, Your Friends and Neighbors, A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, and The Testaments round out a drama field that feels fresh while still giving established favorites their due. The 2026 Emmy nominations prove that television remains stronger and more diverse than ever. From prestige dramas to sharp comedies and unforgettable limited series, this year's race feels unpredictable in the best possible way. Whether The Pitt can convert its impressive nomination haul into major wins or Hacks continues its comedy reign remains to be seen. One thing is certain. Emmy night promises plenty of surprises, a few deserving victories, and at least one acceptance speech that somehow goes on longer than an entire streaming episode.

Disney's live-action remake campaign continues with Moana, bringing one of its most beloved modern animated films into the real world. While the movie delivers stunning visuals, memorable songs, and strong performances, it also raises the same question that has followed many of these remakes: did this story really need to be retold? Kids will love this film. From a visual standpoint, it's colorful, and it brings two fan-favorite characters to life with all the music, locations, and story beats they already love. For some younger viewers, this will even be their first introduction to these characters. For adults and older kids, though, this is just another unnecessary retelling with a fresh coat of paint, Dwayne Johnson wearing a muscle suit and wig, and not much else. Moana reimagines the 2016 animated classic, with newcomer Catherine Laga'aia wonderfully portraying Moana. Answering the ocean's call, she ventures beyond the reef of Motunui for the first time alongside the infamous demigod Maui, with Dwayne Johnson reprising his role from the original animated film. Now, don't get me wrong the film isn't horrible. But if you've seen the animated movie, you've essentially seen this one. The story is almost a shot-for-shot retelling. While some people may think that's perfectly fine, others, myself included, will find it a little pointless. That's honestly the biggest issue with Disney's live-action remakes. Some films make enough changes to justify revisiting the story, while others stick so closely to the original that it never feels like there's a reason to exist beyond making money. Visually, the film is beautiful. Outside of a few obvious soundstage and green screen moments, the island locations are stunning. Everything is recognizable and wonderfully recreated from the animated film. The musical numbers were also a hit for me. Catherine Laga'aia makes Moana's songs her own, and I enjoyed every one of them. Dwayne Johnson's standout moment is, of course, "You're Welcome." They recreated the entire sequence from the animated movie, and Johnson brings much more energy and personality to Maui than what we saw in those early trailers. John Tui, who plays Chief Tui, was another highlight. You can genuinely feel the father-daughter chemistry between him and Catherine throughout the film. As a longtime Power Rangers fan, it's also great seeing one of my favorite former Power Rangers actors in such a major Disney role. Rena Owen is also excellent as Moana's grandmother. Even though she doesn't have a huge amount of screen time, she captures the warmth and wisdom that made the character so memorable in the original. I honestly just wish Disney had expanded on the story or waited until Moana wasn't still so fresh in people's minds. We just got the sequel, and now a third animated film is reportedly in development. Because of that, this remake feels more like a money grab than a necessary reimagining, despite having a talented cast. If you have kids, absolutely take them to see this movie, they're going to have a great time. But if you're someone who's grown tired of Disney's live-action remake machine, this one probably isn't going to change your mind. Overall, Moana is a visually entertaining remake with a talented cast and enjoyable musical performances, but it's held back by its reluctance to do anything new with a story we've already seen.

After four episodes, I can confidently say X-Men '97 hasn't lost a step, and I would have been able to predict what happened in this episode. "Rise of Apocalypse Part 2" delivers exactly what you would want from this storyline. It has incredible action, emotional character moments, and one of the biggest "OMG" endings the series has given us so far. This episode doesn't just move the story forward, it completely changes the future of the season. Picking up where Part 1 left off, Nur has just watched his followers die, and while he's furious, he still gives the X-Men an opportunity to explain who they are and why they've traveled back in time. That's one thing I appreciate about this version of Apocalypse. Before becoming the legendary villain we know, he's still capable of listening. You can actually see the man before the monster, even though we all know he is still a monster. Magneto, believing there may still be hope, destroys Bishop's time band and convinces everyone that the technology inside the mysterious temple General Logos spoke about could get them home. It's a risky move, but it's also classic Magneto. He refuses to accept that fate is already written. Meanwhile, Charles Xavier discovers that someone else has been pulling strings. Rama-Tut better known to Marvel fans as Kang the Conqueror, or Nathaniel Richards uses his own version of Cerebro to invade Charles' mind. I wasn't expecting Kang to play such a major role in this storyline, but it fits perfectly with all the time-travel chaos that's been happening this season. From there, the team splits up. Charles, Bishop, and Nur head toward the temple while Magneto, Rogue, Beast and Nightcrawler board the ancient celestial ship. Watching them walk through the very ship we've seen throughout the series was a great callback, and it finally starts connecting the dots between Apocalypse's past and everything we've known about him. The biggest turning point comes when Charles learns exactly who Nur is destined to become. His future as Apocalypse is literally written on the walls of the shrine. Charles desperately tries to stop him from entering, but by this point it's already too late. Nur is on another level. He's tossing the X-Men aside like they're nothing, and every second you realize you're watching the birth of one of Marvel's greatest villains. Then comes one of my favorite lines of the episode. "All creation is forged in destruction." That one sentence perfectly sums up Apocalypse's philosophy and explains why he becomes the character we've known for decades. Once Apocalypse gains his full power, the episode shifts into overdrive. Bishop wants everyone to forget trying to change history and just return to their own time, but Magneto refuses to abandon Charles. It might not be the smartest decision, but it is exactly what I'd expect from Erik. No matter how much he and Charles disagree, he'll always fight to protect his oldest friend when it matters most. The battle between Magneto and Apocalypse is easily the highlight of the episode. Even after being seriously wounded, Magneto summons every ounce of strength he has left, surrounding Apocalypse with massive shards of metal before forcing him off the ship in an attempt to save both Charles and the timeline. It's one of the most heroic things we've ever seen Magneto do. Unfortunately... It isn't enough. Apocalypse simply walks back toward him, and without hesitation, incinerates Magneto. I honestly sat there in disbelief. The way the scene is presented doesn't feel like a fake-out. It feels brutal, sudden, and completely hopeless. Whether Magneto is actually gone or not, the episode wants you to feel that loss, and it absolutely succeeds. Before things get any worse, Bishop returns to rescue Charles, leaving behind a version of history that may have been permanently altered. Magneto was not supposed to die in the past. What I continue to love about X-Men '97 is that it respects these characters. Charles isn't always right. Magneto isn't always wrong. Both men are trying to save the future in their own way, and that's what has always made their relationship so compelling. This episode captures that better than almost anything we've seen in the series. Visually, the animation continues to impress. The scale of Apocalypse's transformation, the psychic sequences with Charles, and Magneto's final stand all look phenomenal. Marvel Animation continues to prove that animation is it’s biggest strength. Four episodes into Season 2, this show still hasn't missed. Every episode raises the stakes while finding meaningful moments for its characters, and that's why this series continues to stand alongside the best superhero television we've ever gotten. I already can't wait to see where Episode 5 takes us.

The Immortal Universe just delivered its most high-stakes hour yet. In The Vampire Lestat Season 1 Episode 5, titled "New York," the series merges the glittering anxiety of the modern-day music industry with ancient vampire genesis. Inside the Studio: A Posthumous Masterpiece and The Dark Gift Following the dramatic public shooting that left the world believing Lestat de Lioncourt was dead, the rock-star vampire is operating deep from the underground. To keep the illusion alive, his team pays off lookalike Yarda. Meanwhile, Lestat locks his band away in a New York recording studio to cut a posthumous album. Gabriella is pulling the strings under the alias "Sofia," driven by a nihilistic desire to broadcast their immortal existence to the world. While Lestat explicitly warns his mortal musicians about the psychological agony of eternal life, their devotion never wavers. By the end of the grueling recording sessions, Lestat, Gabriella, and Sam officially cross the line, turning the entire band into vampires. Flashbacks Reveal Akasha and the Blood Origin Time to explore Lestat's history with his ancient caretaker, Marius de Romanus. After spending nearly a century buried in the earth out of profound grief, Lestat is rescued by Marius and given a singular, terrifying task: watch over the calcified, silent rulers of the vampire race, Akasha and Enkil. The lore drops heavily in these scenes. Marius reveals that Enkil’s skull was fractured decades prior when Marius accidentally exposed him to the sun, an event that caused vampires all over the globe to spontaneously burn. Akasha is established as the absolute "seed" of the immortal species. If she perishes, every vampire on Earth dies with her. The flashback culminates at the turn of the century in 1900, where Akasha breaks her stone-like slumber, drinks from a mesmerized Lestat, and commands him to join her. These scenes were some of the best of the season so far and we need more Akasha ASAP. Louis Breaks His Silence Back in the modern timeline, Louis is losing his grip on reality while drowning in grief over Claudia. Louis cracks under the pressure. He breaks his long-standing radio silence and texts Lestat for help. Despite his frantic obsession with perfecting his album tracks, Lestat drops everything to rush to Louis's side and meets Regina. He tells her to leave Louis alone. Armand Unleashes a Chilling Party Trick While Lestat deals with his past and his music, Armand is busy playing mind games across New York. He corners Daniel Molloy in a park, confessing that he has secretly tracked, guided, and protected Daniel for 52 years. Armand extends an offer to "walk in the sun" together, but he also uses the moment to malicious effect, exposing Lestat’s complex, incestuous history with Gabriella to sour Daniel's documentary project. The true horror of the episode, however, lands on Larry, the band's struggling guitar player. Unlike his bandmates, Larry refuses the dark gift and attempts to flee. Armand corners Larry on a crowded subway platform. Utilizing a hypnotically placed mental trigger word—"rest"—which had been quietly incepted into Larry's mind earlier via his brother Alex, Armand forces the musician to step directly into the path of an oncoming train. Just when we thought Lois and Clark’s biggest hurdle would be navigating their post-engagement domestic life, a literal child drops from the sky to order the entire brunch menu and ruin their morning. In My Adventures with Superman Season 3, Episode 4, titled "Guess Who's Slammin' to Dinner?", the hit animated series serves up its signature blend of heartwarming family dynamics and high-stakes superhero action. This week, the show delivers a massive paradigm shift by introducing a time-traveling legacy character, staging an underground reptile invasion, and finally letting Cyborg Superman completely off his digital leash. The Ultimate Family Plot Twist The episode kicks off with Lois and Clark trying to have a normal, quiet brunch, a concept that simply does not exist in Metropolis. Their romantic planning is rudely interrupted by a mysterious, hyperactive youth who eats like a black hole and immediately exhibits Clark’s super-speed and Lois’s knack for light pickpocketing. Jon Kent has officially entered the chat. While Clark is instantly charmed by the kid’s agility and uncanny familiarity, Lois spirals into a pit of existential dread. It takes a slick piece of reverse-pickpocketing for Lois to swipe Jon’s futuristic family photo, confirming that this kid is, indeed, their future son. The emotional anchor of the episode shifts beautifully here, anchoring the sci-fi absurdism in Lois’s very real, relatable panic over future motherhood. Reptiles and Bonding: The Metropolis Special Because this show loves a crowded canvas, the family drama is quickly interrupted by an invasion from the "Subterranosauri"—a faction of underground dinosaur-people led by a warlord named Krull. Instead of slowing the episode down, the dinosaur incursion serves as the perfect backdrop for some top-tier father-son bonding. Clark gets to gush over Jon's combat skills, while Jon gets to see his dad's iconic freeze-breath in action. The real kicker comes when Prince Tyrannko emerges. Instead of punching his way out of the problem, Jon uses his knowledge of history to broker a diplomatic peace treaty over brunch leftovers. It is a classic Superman resolution, proving that Jon inherited his father’s heart along with his powers. Hank Henshaw Logs Off (Permanently) While Team Superman is busy dealing with subterranean diplomacy, the real threat is brewing over at LexCorp. She demands to know where the gold is and where Aegon II is hiding. Alicent says she has already told her everything she knows, and she tells Rhaenyra to just declare Aegon dead. Rhaenyra tells Alicent and Helaena that they won't be set free until Aegon is found and killed. Rhaenyra then goes to the High Septon (the religious leader) and demands he bless her as Queen. He refuses, pointing out that there is no proof Aegon is dead. He warns her not to make an enemy out of the church.
