The episode starts with a big win for Team Black. Daemon Targaryen forces Lord Ormund Hightower to surrender and switch sides to Queen Rhaenyra. Daemon takes custody of a young boy everyone thinks is Daeron Targaryen—Alicent’s youngest son. Publicly, Daemon promises to treat the boy well so the enemy can't use him to start another war. But privately, he tells Rhaenyra she needs to execute the kid to completely eliminate the threat.
However, Rhaenyra’s victory doesn't last long. Her council gives her a huge list of problems. First, Lord Corlys Velaryon tells her that the Greens stole all the money from the royal treasury. Even though they are broke, Rhaenyra insists she must have an official coronation to prove she is the real Queen.
Looking for answers, Rhaenyra confronts Alicent. She demands to know where the gold is and where Aegon II is hiding. Alicent says she has already told her everything she knows, and she tells Rhaenyra to just declare Aegon dead. Rhaenyra tells Alicent and Helaena that they won't be set free until Aegon is found and killed.
Rhaenyra then goes to the High Septon (the religious leader) and demands he bless her as Queen. He refuses, pointing out that there is no proof Aegon is dead. He warns her not to make an enemy out of the church.
Trouble with Allies and the Public
Things get tense between Rhaenyra and Lord Corlys. Corlys admits that Alyn and Addam are his sons and asks Rhaenyra to make them legitimate so they can use the Velaryon name. Rhaenyra hesitates—likely because she knows Laenor is secretly still alive. Instead of giving them the family name, she compromises by knighting Ulf, Hugh, and Addam.
Rhaenyra is feeling completely overwhelmed. Everyone is fighting for her attention, and the poor people of the city are starving. To fix the food shortage, Rhaenyra invites the rich merchants and minor nobles to a trick dinner. Instead of good food, she serves them rats. She tells them that her guards are currently raiding their homes to take the food they hoarded and give it to the poor.
After the dinner, Corlys confronts Rhaenyra about why she won't give Addam his last name. Rhaenyra says that raising up illegitimate sons brings too much negative attention, especially with everyone watching her. Corlys snaps back and reminds her that her own three oldest sons were bastards, too.
The Twist and the Threat of War
The biggest twist happens when Rhaenyra tells Alicent that "Daeron" is being sent away to the North. Alicent asks to see the boy and immediately realizes the truth: this kid is a fake. Lord Ormund tricked them, and the real Prince Daeron is still safe with the Hightowers.
Right after this, a Dragonkeeper runs in with terrible news. Lord Ormund’s army has captured the town of Tumbleton and brought a young dragon inside the gates. Rhaenyra realizes that to fight back, she might have to use her own dragons to burn down the city, killing thousands of innocent people.
The episode ends with a dark look at Rhaenyra's future. She stands alone, watching a giant pile of Green tapestries and cloaks burn to ashes.
