The 2026 Emmy nominations have officially arrived and television fans finally have something new to argue about. Awards season is officially underway and this year's lineup is packed with returning favorites, ambitious newcomers, and a few eyebrow raising surprises that are guaranteed to fuel debates until the winners are announced. If there is one thing the Television Academy accomplished this year, it is making sure nobody walks away completely happy.
The biggest headline belongs to The Pitt, which stormed into the drama race with nominations across nearly every major category. The medical drama landed a coveted Outstanding Drama Series nomination while Noah Wyle earned recognition for Lead Actor in a Drama Series. The cast also dominated the supporting and guest acting races, proving that the Academy clearly had plenty of room for this hospital on its patient list.
Newcomer Pluribus also made an impressive debut. The series secured an Outstanding Drama Series nomination along with acting nominations for Rhea Seehorn, Karolina Wydra, Carlos Manuel Vesga, Miriam Shor, and Jeff Hiller. After years of delivering acclaimed performances, Seehorn finally finds herself front and center in one of the most competitive races of the year.
Meanwhile, Slow Horses, The Diplomat, Paradise, The Gilded Age, Your Friends and Neighbors, A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, and The Testaments round out a drama field that feels fresh while still giving established favorites their due.
Comedy remains just as competitive. Hacks continues its awards dominance with another Outstanding Comedy Series nomination and acting nods for Jean Smart, Hannah Einbinder, Paul W. Downs, and an impressive collection of guest stars.
At this point it almost feels easier to list who from Hacks did not get nominated. Abbott Elementary, The Bear, Shrinking, Only Murders in the Building, Nobody Wants This, Margo's Got Money Troubles, and Widow's Bay complete a comedy lineup filled with critical favorites and breakout newcomers. The Lead Actress race featuring Jean Smart, Quinta Brunson, Ayo Edebiri, Elle Fanning, and Lisa Kudrow may end up being one of the toughest categories of the entire ceremony.
The limited series competition looks equally fierce. BEEF emerged as a powerhouse with nominations for Outstanding Limited Series along with acting recognition for Carey Mulligan, Oscar Isaac, Youn Yuh jung, and Charles Melton. All Her Fault, The Beast in Me, DTF St. Louis, and Love Story also earned major nominations, creating one of the strongest limited series fields in recent memory.
Reality television once again delivered familiar favorites. The Traitors, Survivor, Top Chef, RuPaul's Drag Race, and Dancing With the Stars will compete for Outstanding Reality Competition Program. Jeff Probst, Alan Cumming, Kristen Kish, Ariana Madix, and RuPaul Charles will battle for hosting honors.
The variety categories also remain packed with television staples. Saturday Night Live, The Daily Show, Last Week Tonight with John Oliver, Jimmy Kimmel Live!, and The Late Show with Stephen Colbert continue their annual awards rivalry. Even after all these years, late night television still refuses to give up its Emmy real estate.

Looking across the full ballot, one thing stands out above everything else. The Academy clearly embraced newer programming while continuing to reward established hits that have become Emmy regulars. There are certainly a few notable omissions that fans will spend months complaining about because it simply would not be Emmy season without someone insisting their favorite show was robbed.
The 2026 Emmy nominations prove that television remains stronger and more diverse than ever. From prestige dramas to sharp comedies and unforgettable limited series, this year's race feels unpredictable in the best possible way. Whether The Pitt can convert its impressive nomination haul into major wins or Hacks continues its comedy reign remains to be seen. One thing is certain. Emmy night promises plenty of surprises, a few deserving victories, and at least one acceptance speech that somehow goes on longer than an entire streaming episode.
