The safety nets have officially been retracted. In the latest installment of Next Level Chef Season 5, Episode 11, titled “The In-Season Tournament,” the competition finally shed its team-based skin. For the remaining chefs, the cozy mentorship of Ramsay, Arrington, and Blais has shifted from a protective shield to a high-pressure spotlight. We’ve hit the stage where immunity pins are paperweights, shoutout to Andy, who managed to hoard hers until it became a souvenir and the only way to survive is to cook like your life depends on it.
A Gladiator Style Start in the Top Kitchen
The episode kicked off with everyone starting at the summit. With 30 minutes on the clock and Chef Richard Blais overseeing the Top Kitchen, the platform grab was less of a professional exchange and more of a scene from Gladiator. By the time the clock hit zero, the pickings were slim, but the results were elite.
The goal was simple: cook a top-tier dish and earn a pass for the rest of the night. Gabrielle secured her safety with a sophisticated toro paired with beets and a sesame ginger sauce. Joining her in the winners' circle was Andy, who turned out a duck and puree combo that proved she didn’t need that unused immunity pin after all. These two earned the right to watch the rest of the bloodbath from the sidelines.
Mid-Level Mediocrity and Grocery Store Gambles
As the remaining chefs descended to the middle kitchen, the vibe shifted from gourmet to "desperation at the local supermarket." The challenge? Transform average grocery store ingredients into a five-star plate.
The platform drop triggered a tug-of-war between Christian and Danielle over a chicken breast. Christian won the scrap, leaving a visibly flustered Danielle with swordfish, an ingredient she had never touched before. Similarly, Cole found herself holding bao buns with no clue how to execute them. With only 25 minutes to pivot, the panic was palpable. While Connor managed to lock in and find his flow, Cole, Jared, and Danielle couldn't find the magic, earning themselves a one-way ticket to the basement.
The Basement: Turning Trash into Treasure
The basement challenge was a grim affair: 20 minutes to elevate ingredients that usually end up in the bin. We’re talking "nasty" components no sane person orders at a restaurant. Danielle took a chicken carcass, Cole grabbed frog legs, and Jared was left with a cod head.
Under Gordon Ramsay’s frantic watch, the kitchen was a mess of technical hurdles. Danielle struggled with a grill that refused to heat up, eventually pivoting to a pan for her chicken and herby rice. Cole went the Southern route with fried frog legs and grits, while Jared attempted a carbonara with his cod head.
Ultimately, Jared’s carbonara couldn't save him. The judges sent him packing, proving that in the individual phase of Next Level Chef, there is no room for a mediocre plate, even when you're cooking with garbage.
