General Hospital Casts Jonathan Bennett in New Role

Port Charles is about to get a lot more fetch. In a move that has soap fans and millennials doing a collective double-take, ABC has confirmed that Jonathan Bennett is officially joining the cast of General Hospital. While the long-running daytime drama is famous for its revolving door of amnesiac heirs and back-from-the-dead villains, casting the man who once asked Cady Heron what day it was (it’s October 3rd, obviously) is an inspired bit of stunt casting that might actually stick.

A New Face in Port Charles

Bennett isn't just stopping by for a cameo at the Metro Court pool. He is stepping into the brand-new role of Joe Fitzpatrick, a character specifically tailored to his high-energy screen presence. Making his debut in May 2026, Bennett’s arrival comes at a time when the show is leaning heavily into nostalgia while trying to capture a younger, streaming-savvy audience. (Maybe just bring back Spencer?)

While executive producer Frank Valentini is keeping the character's backstory under lock and key, the whispers around the studio suggest Joe Fitzpatrick will bring a cocktail of charm and complication. Whether he’s a long-lost relative of a legacy family or a corporate shark looking to buy up ELQ, Bennett has the range to play "nice guy with a secret" better than almost anyone in the business.

From Pine Valley to Hallmark and Back

For those who only know him as Aaron Samuels, it’s worth noting that Bennett isn't a daytime rookie. He cut his teeth in the soap world as JR Chandler on All My Children back in the early 2000s. Since then, he’s become the unofficial king of the Hallmark Channel, churning out Christmas movies and hosting reality competitions with a level of enthusiasm that usually requires a prescription.

His jump back to the ABC daytime lineup feels like a homecoming, but with a significant upgrade in star power. Bringing a "Hallmark Hunk" into the gritty, mob-adjacent world of General Hospital provides a tonal shift that the show desperately needs. It’s a smart play: Hallmark fans follow Bennett wherever he goes, and General Hospital gets a shot of adrenaline and a very recognizable face for their promotional teasers.

If Joe Fitzpatrick is even half as charismatic as the man playing him, the local residents and the viewers at home, don't stand a chance. We’re ready to see if he can handle the high-stakes drama of a Nurses Ball or if he’ll end up at the bottom of the harbor by July. Either way, we’ll be watching.
