Just mere days after Peacock announced the new cast, islander Vasana Montgomery was handed the pink slip from the reality dating show. Why? Some videos found their way back on Beyonce’s internet showing the reality star hopeful using a racial slur. Fans are asking how this keeps happening, rightfully so, and production is left scrambling to patch up the cast list before the June 2 premiere. So, what exactly went down? Peacock shared the cast list, and the internet went to ‘internetting’ and dug up the receipts on everybody. In two separate videos, the 25-year-old business owner who hails from Beaverton, Oregon, is seen rapping along to a song and dropping the N-word instead of omitting the lyric. In the second video she uses that same word while playing an arcade game. The videos were quickly shared and reposted on TikTok and X. The backlash came in like votes and fans demanded accountability and Peacock delivered. News broke yesterday, May 30 that Montgomery was officially let go and scrubbed from all the promotional materials, losing her villa ticket before she could unpack. The biggest question hanging over this entire mess is simple: how did production let this slip through the cracks? Due to the videos initially being on private social media accounts and not available publicly, the casting department missed them. When Netflix announced it was turning Alan Alda's 1981 film The Four Seasons into a modern streaming series, eyes were rolled. Yet, the freshman run delivered an almost perfect look at modern adult friendships. Now that season two has arrived to test our patience, let's get into exactly how the Tina Fey, Lang Fisher, and Tracey Wigfield collaboration handles its heaviest narrative pivot yet: killing off Steve Carell’s Nick. The very first episode wastes no time throwing the audience into the deep end. Season 2 follows the remaining core friend group trying to still enjoy their vacation after Nick’s sudden car crash. It is an interesting narrative choice for a comedy, shifting the show from satire into how shared trauma affects friendships. What drives this eight-episode run is the deeply uncomfortable, highly entertaining dynamic between Nick’s ex-wife Anne (Kerri Kenney-Silver) and his very young, very pregnant girlfriend Ginny (Erika Henningsen). Watching these two women bicker over Nick’s estate while preparing to raise baby Gino together is the best writing for the season. Kenney-Silver and Henningsen make a great comedic pair. Meanwhile, Kate (Tina Fey) and Jack (Will Forte) are not having a great time this season. Jack is now tasked with being the group’s new emotional center and Forte plays it beautifully. Fey counters with a performance defined by pure exhaustion, as Kate collapses under the weight of playing the level-headed anchor for everyone else. If I had to choose the weakest plotline this season, unfortunately it lies with Danny (Colman Domingo) and Claude (Marco Calvani). There is this back and forth about becoming parents that while it reads well on paper, it slows down on screen. The acting from Coleman and Calvani were the only saving grace. The writers stick to the same premise as season one with four different trips with unpredictable levels of success. The hiking trip in Upstate New York to spread Nick’s ashes was sad more than anything. However, the summer trip to the Jersey Shore felt livelier and on point. That momentum shifts into fall at a Lake House where we get flashbacks to the group during the pandemic. Lastly, the winter trip to Italy offers beautiful cinematic visuals. Italy is also where we get our cliffhanger. Anne decides to stay and David Tennant makes an appearance as a potential love interest. Anne, did you check for a blue police box? The sophomore season drops the rapid-fire joke density of the first year to build something more grounded and melancholic. While there were some bumps, the chemistry between the cast remains the highlight of the series. Two-time Oscar nominee Mary McDonnell has officially signed on for a recurring guest role in the Baywatch reboot. President Laura Roslin herself is trading the starship Galactica for the shores of Los Angeles and we have a few thoughts on this spectacularly bizarre piece of casting. According to latest, McDonnell will play Gayle, the mother of the show's main protagonist, Hobie Buchannon, who by now you know is being played by Arrow vet Stephen Amell. Gayle is being described as "a sophisticated woman with a wryly funny presence, armed with wisdom, humor and grace." She is fiercely devoted to her family, which in television speak means she will be meddling in everyone's business whether they want her to or not. Given that Gayle and Hobie share a long, complicated history, you can bet a lot of family drama in between the slow-mo beach rescues. When Fox announced they were resurrecting the ultimate 90s cheese fest, the collective internet let out a synchronized sigh. The core cast looked less like an acting ensemble and more like a TikTok reel. Alongside Amell and Shay Mitchell, the lifeguard tower is being populated by LSU gymnast Livvy Dunne, model Brooks Nader and social media personality Noah Beck. Adding Mary McDonnell into this cast is hilarious but it is also a stroke of genius all the same. McDonnell brings instant street cred to a project that desperately needs a anchor to hold it down. Watching an actress of her caliber run acting circles around internet celebrities is going to be wild. It gives the show a necessary layer of self-awareness. It says, "We know what this is, but look who we got anyway." For those of us that grew up during the original era will remember that Gayle was originally played by Wendie Malick. Her version of Gayle and Mitch would go back and forth with the will they/won't they dynamic and constanly fight over Hobie. No real word on whether she was asked to return or not as well as if David Hasselhoff will make an appearance but we do know who else from the original cast is back. Kelly Packard (April) and Michael Bergin (J.D.) have been spotted on set. Filming is already underway on location in Los Angeles, scheduled to hit our screens in January 2027. I've been begging for a reboot of my favorite guilty pleasure for years. The movie starring Dwayne Johnson does not count, don't ask me why; it just doesn't. Rescue: Hi-Surf was a cheap knock-off and so far this reboot series is making my stomach hurt but I remain optimistic. McDonnell’s Gayle might just be the secret weapon that elevates this reboot from a punchline into amust see tv. Whew! It has been a week in television. A lot of shows have wrapped up but Brilliant Minds came back swinging this week and while everybody else was chilling, Tamberla Perry said, “I got it,” and proceeded to quietly run the entire episode as Dr. Carol Pierce. This week’s Performer of the Week goes straight to Perry, who turned Season 2, Episode 15, “The Missing Person,” into a grounded piece of storytelling. While the episode centers on Oliver Wolf’s increasingly unstable mental state and full-on disappearance, it’s Carol who becomes the real backbone of the story. Without her? This hospital would’ve folded. Three days into Wolf going missing, Carol is the only one actively putting the pieces together. With Wolf trying to sell his motorcycle (which Carol pumped the brakes on), leaving his one night stand at his house and not coming into work, his bestie knew something was up and Carol is the only one clocking it. What makes Perry’s performance stand out is how restrained it is. She doesn’t play Carol as frantic or overly emotional, which somehow makes everything feel even more intense. What she did this episode, that balance? Not easy. Perry makes it look effortless. This episode was bittersweet. It seems like we waited forever for the return of a show that we know won't be coming back for a season 3. It's like a tease because there is clearly so much more to be told here that we will never get to see. I wanted more Carol for the longest, screaming into the void and when we finally get it, the rug is pulled out from under us. I'm not bitter. Tamberla Perry owned every scene she was in and we need to see more of her ASAP! Yes, girl. That’s how you hold an episode together.
