This is the next installment in the Star Trek Collection, and I am ready for it. The opening graphics already had my attention, “Star Trek 60” and the pics of all the Star Trek space ship models phasing on the screen. It really got good when Holly Hunter’s voice sets up the intro. Did I mention the great graphics as a backdrop. Holly Hunter’s/Nahla Ake’s speech sets up the story.  The scene starts with a young six-year-old boy being instructed to recite something his Mom, Anisha Mir, taught him. His name is Caleb. He eagerly recites the words in an unknown language “Nah-ru,  Xela, Bhak, Cali and Squill.”  On a desert-like planet,  Anisha is satisfied and tells him it’s their secret code forever.  Caleb promises and points out one of the moons in the sky, calling it Ishaani.  She tells him one day they will find home, Earth when they get a ship. She tells her son about Nus Braka. She knows now he didn’t tell her all he did to feed them. She tells her son they’ll always be together. A door opens and two men enter to take Anisha away.    Stardate : 853724.6  A voice over a PA system warns of a level 3 sandstorm. Anisha, Caleb and Nus Braka are taken to an enclosed room. Braka has two guards holding shock collars around his neck. Is a boisterous, loud-talking man. Nahla Ake enters the room and tells Nus Braka to stop talking. She represents the United Federation and tells him of what he’s being accused. He made Anisha and her son accomplices. He’s sentenced to a lifetime sentence at a federation penal colony. Anisha is sentenced to a rehabilitation camp because a federation pilot was killed in Nus Braka’s theft.  Caleb will become a ward of the Federation. Nus Braka laughs maniacally as Anisha is dragged off leaving Caleb alone.  He yells at Caleb to remember what happened, and is taken away.  Nahla Ake is saddened as she looks at Caleb’s frightened face. She later talks to Caleb and tells him about a school called Little Blooms on Bajor.  She promises  he’ll be safe, won’t be alone, and will see his Mom again.  Caleb hugs her and tells her he left his bear. Nahla goes to retrieve it, and it was all a trick. He stole her pin and accessed the security panel, and escaped.  Fifteen years later, at the V’Rilik Penal Colony on Toroth, Caleb is onboard a transport ship. He bites one of the guards and starts fighting them. He takes them all out and hijacks the ship. One guard disables him, as the ship almost crashes. Caleb is able to stabilize it, but he’s still captured. He’s just trying to find his Mom. What a wild ride. Caleb is fierce. More graphics introducing the Starfleet Academy! Impressive. On Bajor, Nahla Ake is at the “Little Blooms” Early Education Center school. A Starfleet Admiral, Charlie, comes to see her. She proudly states she’s 422 years old and asks why he’s come to see her. He tells her that now the “Burn” is over and the Starfleet Academy in San Francisco is being recommissioned after a hundred years. They want Nhala to run it. As chancellor. She gets her rank reinstated, as well.  After Caleb escaped, she resigned.  She’s part Lanthanite and can show the kids entering the academy how to rebuild their broken world. Nahla turns him down because she doesn’t want to make any more promises she can’t keep. Charlie tries one more thing and tells her they found Caleb. He gets her attention. Charlie and Nahla arrive at the Torothian Prison where Caleb is being held. Charlie says he’s been on the run since he escaped fifteen years ago. Nahla and Caleb meet again. She tells Caleb she’s been looking for him every day since he left. She knows he’s got tech savvy skills and isn’t living up to his potential. She asks him to come with her to Starfleet Academy. He refuses, until Nahla tells him his mother is alive, and broke out of prison a year ago. Nahla makes another promise. This scene was intense. Caleb towers over tiny Nahla, and they are just like a mom and son. Their interaction and dialogue makes you chuckle. Love how he seems to try not to like Nahla, and stays stoic, not quite trusting Nahla, and just there to get what he wants.  There it IS, Starfleet Academy! It’s Astonishing. They enter and there are droids, aliens and the voice of Stephen Colbert, Starfleet Academy's Digital Dean of Students, broadcasting a welcome message to the cadets over the PA system.  Nahla and Caleb are greeted by Nahla’s Number One, Commander Lura Thok. She’s a Klingon but looks like a Gorn. She welcomes Nahla to the Athena. It’s like they’re on an actual starship with ceilings that could reach the sky if they were on Earth. Caleb is fascinated, but keeps it quiet. Number One updates Nahla on all the specs she asked to be implemented. Suddenly Caleb stops and states no, he’s not wearing a uniform.  Why he wanted to say that, because Number One tears into him,and sets him straight. She has him doing 200 pushups. Cadet Jay-Den Kraag happens to be walking by, and Lura gets him to make it harder for Caleb to do pushups. Kraag  is a timid Klingon. Photo Credit: Brooke Palmer/Paramount+. That scanner is fantastic. Cadet Caleb Mir really looks like a cadet once he passes through. Shock doesn’t describe how Caleb feels. This is too funny!  YYYAaaaayyy, The Voyager’s Medical Hologram Doctor is doing the medical checks of the cadets. Caleb has lots going on with his bio scan. Another hilarious moment. Nhala and Number One go to the bridge of the Athena.  She meets her bridge crew, Lieutenants Dandrid, Thrice, Atlee, Haile, Ya and Ensign Weldu. Nahla introduces them to the academic liaison, Lieutenant Rork.  The Captain’s Chair is tech’d out, and Nahla looks tiny in it, but definitely looks like she belongs there. She doesn’t realize it, but she starts humming. She rises and gives a message to all aboard. Her speech is already inspirational, but the graphics of all the Starfleet Captains and Crew shown onscreen accentuates it. They are the first of the Academy Class to return to the San Francisco Campus in 120+ years. The Athena Starship design is like a bird taking flight. You also see Chancellor Nahla Ake take a different seated position in the Captain’s Chair. The flight of the Athena is Majestic as it heads to San Francisco. The Cadet that greats people like their entering a big box store, is the most enthusiastic, joyful and engaging one, Sam. She’s so eager and outgoing. Genesis introduces herself and they seem to be getting off to a good start. The cadets start mingling, and of course one challenges Kraag. Caleb comes to his rescue. The interactions are top notch. Ngl, I had a few tears after what Kraag said to Caleb.  George Hawkins†as†Darem and Sandro Rosta†as†Caleb in Star Trek: Starfleet Academy, episode 1, season 1, streaming on Paramount+, 2025. It’s also fun to see him encouraging the cadets to get involved in opera. Sam is fanning out over him. Sam is a Series Acclamation Mil/SAM. She is the first holographic student. She’s only existed a little over four months. She wants The Doctor to be her mentor.  The Athena meets its first mysterious adversaries. Tech does fail them, but SAM doesn’t. Number One is Super!  The new adversary turns out to be an old one seeking retribution against Captain Ake. Paul Giamatti is an excellent villain. His repertoire is immense.  Love the impromptu hackathon by Caleb and SAM to get the ship operational again. Darem, the Khonian is so fantastic.  This first episode is filled with different characters, androids, dialogue, differing storylines and sensational moments. Can see why a second season was already greenlit. The graphics, starship, holograms, uniforms, fascinating sets and possible love matches are amazing. The captain has established herself as unique by the first scenes. Starfleet Academy is a worthy addition to the legendary Star Trek Legacy. Captain Ake is a Worthy Starfleet Captain.  I give this episode 5 Stars out of 5 .

The streamer has officially cast Ryan Hurst as Kratos , the rage-fueled Spartan turned reluctant dad at the center of Sony’s iconic video game franchise. And honestly? This choice is about as inspired as it is inevitable. For anyone who’s spent time in the God of War  fandom, Hurst is hardly a stranger. He previously voiced Thor in God of War Ragnarök , delivering one of the game’s most unhinged and memorable performances. Now he’s trading the hammer for the Blades of Chaos, stepping into a role that demands both towering physicality and emotional restraint, two areas where Hurst has quietly excelled throughout his career. Best known for his work as Opie on Sons of Anarchy  and the whispering nightmare that was Beta on The Walking Dead and let's not forget Remember the Titans, Hurst brings a bruised gravitas that fits Kratos like war paint. This version of the character isn’t just a god-slaying force of nature; he’s a man weighed down by regret, grief, and the exhausting responsibility of fatherhood. If Amazon’s God of War  series is indeed adapting the Norse-era storyline from the 2018 reboot and Ragnarök , then emotional depth matters just as much as spectacle, maybe more. The series comes from Amazon MGM Studios in collaboration with Sony Pictures Television and PlayStation Productions, with Battlestar Galactica  and For All Mankind  veteran Ronald D. Moore  steering the ship. That pedigree alone suggests the show is aiming higher than a simple video game adaptation. Moore’s track record with character-driven sci-fi bodes well for a story that hinges on broken men, complicated legacies, and gods behaving badly. Of course, fan reactions have been predictably loud. Some are thrilled. Others are clutching their Leviathan Axes in skepticism. Casting always sparks debate, especially when Christopher Judge’s definitive voice performance still looms large. But Judge himself has already offered public support, which should calm at least a few fires. What makes this casting work is familiarity without redundancy. Hurst understands the tone, the mythology, and the emotional temperature of the God of War  universe. He’s not cosplaying Kratos; he’s inheriting him. With production underway and at least two seasons reportedly planned, Amazon’s God of War  series is finally starting to feel real. Ryan Hurst as Kratos isn’t a safe choice, it’s a confident one. If the show leans into character over chaos (and saves the chaos for when it counts), this could be the rare video game adaptation that earns its place among prestige TV. And if nothing else, we’re guaranteed one thing: Kratos is going to look absolutely terrifying staring into the middle distance.

Another week and another amazing episode of The Rookie . There was so much to love about “ Fast Andy ” – it felt like a transitional one to me, with a few characters closing chapters while starting a new one.  We Finally Get to See Lucy in Action Let’s be honest, we’ve all been waiting for this journey for such a long time. I almost lost hope for my girl. I couldn’t understand how someone who has accomplished as much as Lucy has, both as a rookie and  a P2 officer, wasn’t progressing in her career. Alas, we’re finally here and we got a chance to see her in charge. No night shift for her this time around; with Grey working in the task force office, Tim moved into the Watch Commander’s seat, making Lucy the Sergeant on duty.  This was probably one of the most challenging shifts to have as your first time in charge, but of course Lucy handled it like I knew she would. The President is coming to town and Lucy is tasked with implementing a motorcade route ( season one ‘Redwood’ flashback anyone? ) to ensure the President’s safety. She, along with Angela and Nyla, had to work closely with the Secret Service who were not at all subtle with mansplaining how to go about this. When a suspect on the watch list becomes a potential threat, Tim (as the Watch Commander) is brought in and even though Lucy is in charge of the scene, the Secret Service directs all their questions to Tim. The blatant disrespect did not go unnoticed, however, Lucy handled it well.  “Fast Andy” - THE ROOKIE, Pictured: Melissa O’Neil as Lucy Chen and Eric Winter as Tim Bradford. Photo: (Disney/Mike Taing) What stood out to me in this episode, that I haven’t seen in a while, is how confident Lucy is stepping into this leadership role. Yes, she accepted the help from Tim when he thought she could use some, but it wasn’t like before when she was doubting herself. It was more like, “this is new territory, give a little guidance since you’re experienced”. More of this please because she’s more than capable of getting the job done.  T.O. Nolan Fails Again John has his moments with his rookies and they’re not always great. Celina needed some guidance, however she had natural talent which is why she was successful and finally made it through her probationary period. In this episode, he shouldn’t have assumed that Miles knew what he was doing just because he mentioned that he’s recruited CIs back in Texas. He should’ve been there as backup the entire time.  Honestly, John is too trusting and you can’t be trusting as a T.O. Your job is to make sure your rookie  doesn’t make rookie  mistakes. Just like we saw here with Miles. When he tries to recruit a CI who they call “Fast Andy” (come on now), something should’ve clicked that this wasn’t going to be an easy recruit.  “Fast Andy” - THE ROOKIE, Pictured: Deric Augustine as Miles Penn. Photo: (Disney/Mike Taing) When John walks away, Miles makes a promise to Andy that he shouldn’t have and fast forward to Andy going to rob a dispensary to see how far his immunity went. Tim didn’t take finding out about this well when he had to deal with the aftermath. John’s excuse was letting this be a teachable moment for Miles, but he should’ve known better.  Jerry and Margaret Case Now, this case had me on the edge of my seat holding my breath. The tie-in with Jerry first appearing on the watch list as a potential threat to the president, to then being a threat to his ex-girlfriend, Margaret’s life was so well executed.  Angela and Nyla were the first ones to have Jerry on their radar. When they got to his place, he was missing, but they found his hidden arsenal with one of them missing. This brought Jerry to the top of the threat list. A quick debrief with the Secret Service let us know that there have been plenty of letters written by Jerry which is how he made it on the watch list. While reading his letters, Nyla and Angela together figured out that his ex-girlfriend was the one in danger.  Nyla and Angela, along with Miles and John, are now in a race to make it to Margaret before Jerry does. When they get to Margaret’s job, Jerry is already there, so they come in with guns firing. This warehouse was a maze; Margaret is running from Jerry trying her best to hide, Jerry is trying to find her while avoiding getting shot, and Nyla, Angela, John and Miles are all shooting trying to subdue Jerry. This scene was choreographed so well – I don’t think I even blinked to avoid missing a thing.  Eventually, John managed to get him down and Jerry was taken in. I have to admit, I watched that scene a few times before moving on. It was too good.  Miles is Breaking My Heart This isn’t a huge part of this episode, but Miles’ situation is stuck with me. When he comes to move in as Lucy is moving out, he only has a bag with him with all of his belongings. Celina was a little confused at this, but he casually says living in his car made him a minimalist. Which makes sense, but I could only imagine what that was like for him. As they’re removing Lucy’s mattress, Celina made a point that Tim already had a bed and she wouldn’t need it so it’s left behind, obviously for Miles which is great because, yay, he finally has a bed.  Not sleeping in his car is already going to be an adjustment, but it’s these little moments of seeing this adjustment play out is what’s so heartbreaking to me. When he and Celina are talking in the living room, he chooses to sit on the floor rather than the couch because he’s “not used to furniture” yet. Fast forward to “Fast Andy” going insane – when John texts him about what’s going on, Miles is sleeping on the floor when there’s a perfectly safe bed for him to sleep on.  “Fast Andy” - THE ROOKIE, Pictured: Deric Augustine as Miles Penn. I need to see Miles at ease before this season ends, please and thank you.  Lucy, Tim and OMG - KOJO! It’s the end of the work day and Tim and Lucy finally head home for their first night officially living together. I’m excited to see their home dynamic and this was a cute way to introduce that. What was a surprise to me was seeing Kojo! I’ve missed him so much, and now I feel like the family is complete.  This episode did a great job at showcasing how Lucy and Tim could maintain professionalism while being together at work. So much better than we’ve seen in previous seasons. A part of me is starting to appreciate that break up a little more, because it’s brought us to this final scene in the episode.  Tim and Lucy are comfortable with each other again. They’re communicating, they’re being honest with each other. This  is what the fans wanted. Doc  Season 2 Episode 11, “Family Matters,” is a whirlwind of emotions, ethical dilemmas, and hospital drama that proves this series knows how to keep viewers on edge. Between life-or-death medical cases, shocking family revelations and a simmering FBI investigation, this episode had everything, panic attacks, betrayals and yes, even heartbreak that hits harder than a triple shift at Westside. The episode opens on a tense note with Hannah telling Charlie she wants him out of her life when she gets home from her shift. Coming off last week’s patient death, it’s clear she’s on edge and honestly, can you blame her? Watching her spiral is both frustrating and heartbreaking and it immediately sets the emotional tone. Meanwhile, TJ and Sonya are out in the community, examining kids for scoliosis at a local school. What seems like a routine screening quickly turns serious when TJ finds a boy with untreated strep. Tragedy compounds as we learn his parents are gone, leaving his older sister to care for her siblings while juggling night school and a job. She even gave up a Stanford scholarship to do it. The situation forces TJ and Joan to collaborate on the boy’s urgent surgery, laying the groundwork for a promising professional partnership. Sonya also shines here, though she initially stumbles when she calls the child’s aunt, misreading the older sister’s resilience as overwhelm. Thankfully, they later have an honest conversation that redeems her and gives viewers a reason to warm up to her character. I'm really digging the TJ and Sonya setup that they are hitting us over the head with. Back at the hospital, Amy is treating Albert, an elderly patient who collapses while out with his home aide, Gloria. Albert’s children, Pam and Freddy, are present during the examination. Pam immediately suspects foul play as Gloria stands to inherit $100,000while Freddy isn’t convinced. Amy digs into the family background and dynamics, setting up a slow-burn mystery. And just when you think you know where this is going… turns out Albert is being poisoned. The reveal that both Pam and Gloria are complicit in trying to secure the inheritance is dark, tense and, yes, totally satisfying in a “wow, I didn’t see that coming” way. The episode also digs deep into Hannah’s backstory, adding emotional weight. Flashbacks show her and Charlie discovering their father after his suicide, a gut-wrenching moment and later, her stay in a mental health facility. The emotional strain bleeds into the present when Hannah freezes during a patient code, suffering a panic attack. Amy’s comforting her is a tender moment, but honestly, it’s maddening to watch Amy being so nice to the woman that set her up. Then the writers have us feeling bad for Hannah. My emotions are being pulled in so many directions. Meanwhile, Michael escalates the tension with HR, requesting photos of all the white male doctors who previously worked with Amy. The HR rep panics, knowing she tipped off Hannah and when Amy eventually gets the list, the pieces start falling into place: Brian Clark is Hannah’s father. The episode ends with a gut-punch cliffhanger asCharlie has overdosed, leaving Hannah’s personal crisis unresolved. Between the poisoning mystery, the ongoing fallout from past deaths, and the FBI’s investigation looming over the hospital, next week promises to be explosive. With the board trying to scapegoat Amy and Hannah’s personal life in complete chaos, “Family Matters” leaves us on edge, eager for the next episode. I cannot wait for that Amy and Hannah confrontation. “Family Matters” expertly blends high-stakes medical drama with layered family stories. Between TJ and Sonya’s school visit, Amy’s detective work and Hannah’s spiraling personal life, the episode hits all the right emotional beats while keeping the suspense alive.
