What to Watch Friday, October 2: ‘Kill Jackie,’ ‘Celebrity Wheel of Fortune’ & ‘The UnBelievable’

Friday is bringing Catherine Zeta-Jones with a revenge plan, celebrities spinning for charity and Dan Aykroyd digging into another batch of stories that sound too strange to be true. AMC+ launches Kill Jackie, ABC brings back Celebrity Wheel of Fortune, and History kicks off Season 4 of The UnBelievable with Dan Aykroyd. Throw in a hefty streaming lineup and there are considerably worse ways to start the first weekend of October.

TV Cave Top Pick: Kill Jackie

Catherine Zeta-Jones gets our Friday Top Pick with Kill Jackie, the new thriller premiering today exclusively on AMC+. Zeta-Jones stars as Jackie Price, a woman whose carefully constructed new life is shattered when seven assassins are sent to kill her. Instead of waiting around to see which one succeeds, Jackie decides hunting them first sounds like the much better option. AMC+ confirms the series premieres October 2.

And really, that's enough to get our attention. A revenge thriller with Zeta-Jones turning the tables on a group of professional killers feels tailor-made for a Friday-night watch, particularly with Killing Eve, Gangs of London and John Wick producers behind the series. Jackie may have seven assassins on her trail, but something tells us they're the ones who should probably be worried.

ABC's live schedule confirms Celebrity Wheel of Fortune at 8 PM ET followed by 20/20 at 9 PM, while ABC's fall announcement separately identifies tonight as the Celebrity Wheel season premiere. History lists The UnBelievable with Dan Aykroyd Season 4 beginning tonight at 9 PM ET.

‘Celebrity Wheel of Fortune’ Is Back Spinning

Ryan Seacrest and Vanna White are back for another season of Celebrity Wheel of Fortune tonight at 8 PM on ABC. The celebrity edition keeps the familiar puzzle-solving format but adds stars competing for money for their chosen charities, with as much as $1 million potentially on the line.

ABC is explicitly promoting tonight's October 2 broadcast as the season premiere, so this is one Friday listing we don't have to squint at a weekly schedule and guess about. It also gives ABC a lighter lead-in before 20/20 takes over the rest of primetime at 9 PM.

Dan Aykroyd Is Ready to Get Weird Again

If your preferred Friday-night entertainment involves bizarre history, strange coincidences and stories that make you stop and ask, “Wait, WHAT?”, The UnBelievable with Dan Aykroyd returns for Season 4 at 9 PM on History. The network's official page confirms the new season begins tonight and will be available to stream the following day.

Aykroyd's delivery has always been part of the fun here. The series isn't trying to turn weird history into homework; it leans into just how wild some of these stories are. With October officially underway, a show devoted to the bizarre feels pretty comfortable on tonight's schedule.

Streaming Has Plenty to Keep You Busy

Friday's streaming lineup isn't exactly taking the night off. Hulu drops 20 episodes of Adventure Time: Side Quests Season 2, while yesterday's Coven Academy Freeform launch expands to its full-season streaming release on Hulu and Disney+. Apple TV also premieres the documentary The Last First: Winter K2, following an extraordinarily dangerous winter expedition on K2.

Netflix adds Tyler Perry's Doing Life, while HBO Max brings Evil Dead Burn to streaming. And if Kill Jackie isn't enough new scripted television, STARZ launches Tip Toe at 9:05 PM, starring Alan Cumming and David Morrissey as neighbors whose lives take a decidedly darker turn after one seemingly harmless favor.

Friday doesn't have to compete with a wall of returning broadcast dramas, and that actually works in its favor. Kill Jackie gets the TV Cave Top Pick, Celebrity Wheel of Fortune gives ABC viewers something fun, The UnBelievable returns for another round of weirdness and streaming has enough new material to carry anyone straight through the weekend. Not a bad little Friday at all.
