Téa Leoni and Tim Daly are married in real life, already spent six seasons playing husband and wife on Madam Secretary, and apparently decided they might as well do it again.

NBC has released the official trailer for Newlyweds, its new fall comedy starring Leoni and Daly as Jeanie and James, two people who move very quickly from a blind date to marriage. The series premieres Friday, October 23 at 8:30 p.m. ET/PT on NBC and will stream the following day on Peacock.

The comedy follows Jeanie, a free-spirited woman, and James, a more buttoned-up professor who impulsively get married after a whirlwind courtship. The trailer wastes no time showing just how fast things move between them, with the pair meeting, falling for each other and heading down the aisle before either of them has much time to figure out exactly what they have signed up for.

Of course, getting married is the easy part. The real challenge comes when James realizes loving Jeanie means taking on her entire sprawling, eccentric world of friends and family, while Jeanie gets pulled into his life just as quickly. That includes James’ ex-wife Claudia, played by Jamie Lee Curtis, who looks ready to make sure this new marriage is anything but boring.

Curtis is not just popping in front of the camera either. She co-created Newlyweds with Gail Lerner and serves as an executive producer, while Lerner also serves as showrunner. The supporting cast includes Emma Meisel, Ignacio Diaz-Silverio, Bill O’Neill and Al Madrigal.

There is also an extra layer to seeing Leoni and Daly back together onscreen. The two first met while working on Madam Secretary, where they played Elizabeth and Henry McCord, and later married in real life in 2025. Now they are returning to television as another married couple, only this time the whole thing is played for laughs instead of international political crises.

And honestly, the setup works. A later-in-life romance where two people decide to skip the endless dating phase and jump straight into marriage gives Newlyweds plenty of room for comedy, especially when both characters bring entire lives, families and exes into the relationship.

The trailer suggests the show will lean into that messiness rather than pretending a whirlwind romance magically makes everything easy. Jeanie and James may be crazy about each other, but now they have to figure out how to actually build a life together after saying “I do” first and asking questions later.

Newlyweds premieres Friday, October 23 at 8:30 p.m. ET/PT on NBC.
