Wes Ramsey has once again said goodbye to General Hospital, bringing Peter August's latest stint in Port Charles to an end after months of tormenting Anna Devane from inside her own mind.

Ramsey's final appearance in this run came during the Wednesday, September 9 episode, which brought Anna's increasingly dangerous hallucinations of Peter to a dramatic conclusion. Peter may have died years ago, but GH found a very different way to bring one of Anna's most complicated ghosts back into her life.

Anna Finally Breaks Free From Peter

Peter's final appearance came as Anna's plan to kill Britt Westbourne reached its breaking point at Mount Emerson. With Jason Morgan desperately trying to talk Anna down, Peter continued pushing her to pull the trigger on Britt.

Of course, Peter wasn't actually there. Anna had been hallucinating him as her mental health continued to deteriorate, with Peter becoming the voice encouraging some of her darkest impulses.

Peter tried to convince Anna that killing Britt, the remaining child of Cesar Faison, was the only way she could truly protect herself and her family. Anna ultimately made a different choice. Instead of shooting Britt, she fired her weapon at the Peter only she could see.

Jason quickly took the gun from a shaken Anna while Britt fled. Anna then collapsed into Jason's arms and finally admitted the truth about what she'd been experiencing, including that she had been seeing Peter since her time in France. For Anna, shooting at Peter appeared to represent something much bigger than firing at an imaginary target. She was finally fighting back against the guilt and fear that had been controlling her.

Why Peter August Returned to General Hospital

Ramsey originally joined General Hospital as Peter in 2017, eventually revealed to be the son of Cesar Faison and Alex Devane. His years in Port Charles included everything from his complicated relationship with Maxie Jones to kidnappings, lies and alliances with some of the show's most dangerous villains.

Peter's reign of terror eventually came to a very permanent-looking end in 2022. After he once again threatened Maxie, Felicia Scorpio struck him in the head with a tire iron, bringing his original run on the soap to a close.

Four years later, GH found a way to bring Ramsey back without undoing Peter's death.

He first resurfaced in January 2026 while Anna was being held captive and drugged under Ross Cullum's orders. Rather than revealing that Peter had somehow survived, the show established him as a hallucination connected to Anna's psychological trauma.

Ramsey disappeared again as Anna spent several months off-screen receiving treatment in France, but Peter made another surprise appearance when she returned. His presence revealed to viewers that Anna wasn't nearly as recovered as she wanted everyone around her to believe.

Is Peter August Really Gone This Time?

For now, Ramsey's latest GH run is officially over. Soap Opera Digest confirmed his exit following the September 9 episode, with Anna apparently breaking the psychological hold Peter had maintained over her.

That doesn't necessarily mean viewers should assume Peter can never appear again. His actual death hasn't been reversed, but using him as a manifestation of Anna's guilt gives GH an easy way to bring Ramsey back whenever Anna's history with Faison becomes relevant.

More importantly, Peter's departure doesn't magically fix everything Anna has been going through. She came dangerously close to killing Britt and finally admitted to Jason that she hasn't been well, leaving plenty of fallout for the show to explore even without Peter whispering in her ear.

Wes Ramsey's latest stay in Port Charles may have been very different from his original run, but Peter still managed to cause plenty of trouble without ever coming back from the dead.
