HBO’s The Last of Us continues to shake up its post-apocalyptic world, and Season 3 is already making headlines with a notable casting change. The character Manny, originally portrayed by Danny Ramirez in Season 2, will now be played by Jorge Lendeborg Jr. Fans are buzzing about the recast, and for good reason: Manny’s role may grow more central as the show explores Abby’s storyline in greater depth.

Danny Ramirez, who brought energy and depth to Manny’s initial appearances, won’t be returning due to scheduling conflicts with his other high-profile projects in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, including Captain America: Brave New World and Avengers: Doomsday. While it’s disappointing to see Ramirez step away, Jorge Lendeborg Jr., known for roles in Bumblebee and the Spider-Man films, is stepping in to fill the role. With Lendeborg Jr.’s rising star power and acting range, Manny could become an even more compelling character in Season 3.

Manny first appeared in Season 2 as part of Abby’s crew, assisting her in the aftermath of the devastating events surrounding Joel and Ellie. While his presence was limited in Season 2, Season 3 is expected to delve further into Abby’s journey, suggesting that Manny’s character will have more opportunities to shine. The recast also reflects HBO’s commitment to keeping the story dynamic and flexible as the narrative evolves.

In addition to the Manny recast, Season 3 introduces Clea DuVall as a Seraphite, expanding the faction-based conflicts that have become a signature of the series. Behind the scenes, co-showrunner Neil Druckmann is stepping back from directing, leaving Craig Mazin at the helm for Season 3. Fans can expect an intense continuation of the story, with Abby’s perspective taking center stage alongside the familiar struggles of survival, loyalty, and moral compromise that have defined the series.

Reactions to the Manny recast are mixed. Some viewers are sad to see Ramirez depart, but many are eager to see how Lendeborg Jr. will make the role his own, particularly if Manny becomes a more integral part of Season 3’s story. With the combination of new cast members, expanded storylines and evolving character arcs, The Last of Us Season 3 promises to keep fans on the edge of their seats.

For anyone following the series, this casting update is a sign that the next season will bring fresh energy, deeper character exploration and new dynamics to the post-apocalyptic landscape fans have come to love.
