MasterChef: Global Gauntlet Predictions — Who Will Win Season 16?

After weeks of Mystery Boxes, team challenges, pressure tests and enough Gordon Ramsay yelling to make even the most confident home cook question every decision they've ever made, MasterChef: Global Gauntlet has its final three. Heidi Muston, Jake Kelley and Peter Egede have officially earned their spots in the Season 16 finale, where one of them will walk away with the MasterChef trophy and the $250,000 grand prize.
The three finalists represent very different journeys through the competition, which makes predicting the winner a little more interesting than simply looking at who had the best dish last week. So, before seeing a single second of the finale, we're making the call based entirely on what has aired so far.
Here's how we think MasterChef: Global Gauntlet will end.
3. Peter Egede
First things first: Never count Peter out. The Nigerian representative from Team Africa has had one of the more interesting journeys of the final three because he hasn't exactly cruised into the finale.
Peter has found himself dangerously close to elimination multiple times, including landing among the bottom cooks during the Global Feed challenge, The Wall and Restaurant Takeover. Yet every time it looked like his MasterChef journey might be coming to an end, Peter found a way to survive.
There is something to be said for a contestant who can repeatedly recover when things aren't going according to plan. Peter also helped lead the combined Africa and Americas team to victory during the season's wedding challenge, serving as captain of the winning team and proving that he's capable of delivering when given a leadership role.
His road to the finale hasn't been as consistent as Heidi's or as momentum-heavy as Jake's, but that almost makes Peter the wild card of the final three. If he puts together his best meal of the season when it matters most, none of those earlier struggles will matter. Still, looking at the competition as a whole, we think Peter has the toughest path to the trophy and finishes third.
2. Jake Kelley
If MasterChef is looking for a contestant who peaked at exactly the right time, Jake Kelley might be the guy. Representing Mexico and Team Americas, Jake's strongest stretch has come during the second half of the competition, and he's entering the finale with some serious momentum.
He and Dave Patera won the Tag Team challenge, successfully recreating dishes inspired by Gordon Ramsay, Tiffany Derry and Joe Bastianich's food memories. Then came Restaurant Takeover, where Jake captained the Blue Team alongside Heidi and Julia Cili and managed to lead his team to victory under the pressure of running a restaurant kitchen.
That win gave Jake a huge advantage heading into the semifinals. He was allowed to skip Tiffany Derry's first "Keeping Up" challenge entirely and move directly into Gordon Ramsay's round, putting him one step closer to the finale before everyone else had even started cooking.
Jake has also shown that he can handle collaboration, leadership and dishes outside his comfort zone, all of which could become important when the judges start looking for a complete MasterChef rather than someone who can simply deliver one great plate. There is a very real argument for Jake winning this season, and if we're wrong about our No. 1 pick, he's the person we think takes the trophy instead.
But one contestant has been just a little harder to bet against, which leaves Jake as our prediction for second place.
1. Heidi Muston — Our Pick to Win
We're calling it: Heidi Muston will win MasterChef: Global Gauntlet. Representing South Africa on Team Africa, Heidi has been quietly building one of the strongest résumés of the season, and her performances suggest she has everything needed to finish the job.
Early in the competition, her cultural spin on Eggs Benedict was named the best dish of the challenge, earning her an Immunity Pin and protecting her entire territory. Later, she teamed with Dave during The Wall, where the pair delivered the strongest matching dishes of the night.
Heidi was also part of Jake's winning Blue Team during Restaurant Takeover, meaning she enters the finale with plenty of experience succeeding under pressure. More importantly, she continued delivering when the competition reached the semifinals and there was nowhere left to hide.
While Jake's Restaurant Takeover advantage allowed him to skip Tiffany Derry's opening challenge, Heidi actually had to cook it. She delivered the best recreation of Tiffany's pan-roasted halibut before moving on to Gordon Ramsay's herb-crusted rack of lamb challenge, where she survived again and was the first contestant Gordon announced as advancing to the finale.
Throughout Global Gauntlet, Heidi has shown consistency across individual dishes, team challenges and high-pressure situations. She also appears to be getting stronger rather than simply hanging on as the competition gets harder, which is exactly the trajectory you want heading into a finale.
Jake has momentum, while Peter has resilience, but Heidi has shown a little bit of both. When the finale comes down to putting together an entire menu worthy of the MasterChef title, we're betting that consistency gives her the edge and ultimately earns her the Season 16 trophy.
Could We Be Completely Wrong?
Absolutely, because this is MasterChef, and finales have a way of destroying perfectly reasonable predictions. A contestant can dominate for weeks and lose because one protein is undercooked, while someone else can have an uneven season, cook the meal of their life in the finale and suddenly be holding the trophy.
That's what makes this final three interesting. Heidi looks like the most complete cook based on what we've seen, Jake appears to be hitting his stride at exactly the right moment, and Peter has already demonstrated that counting him out is usually a bad idea.
But we're sticking with the prediction: Peter finishes third, Jake comes painfully close and Heidi wins it all. Now we'll see whether MasterChef makes us look very smart or makes us regret putting this prediction on the internet.
MasterChef: Global Gauntlet begins its two-part finale Wednesday, September 9 at 8 p.m. ET/PT on FOX, with the season concluding September 16.
