Invincible Season 4 Episode 6 Recap: War, Betrayal, and Family Secrets Exposed!

Animated blue-skinned character with pink hair stands in a spaceship interior, wearing a red and black uniform, looking surprised.

Season 4, Episode 6 of Invincible, “You Look Horrible,” pushes the series into full-scale war while still making room for meaningful character moments. As the Coalition of Planets and the Viltrumites prepare for an all-out conflict, the episode balances massive action with quieter, emotional beats—especially between Nolan and Oliver. With Mark still recovering and tensions rising across the galaxy, everything feels like it’s building toward a decisive turning point.

Thaedus addresses the Coalition of Planets, declaring that it’s finally time to fight the Viltrumites. He promises they will end their cruelty, atrocities, and tyranny, revealing that they have discovered their weaknesses and will use them to break their hold on the galaxy. Decades of planning have led to this moment, and he urges everyone to remain unified as they go to war.

At the same time on Viltrum, Thragg delivers an equally powerful speech, insisting the Viltrumites will crush the Coalition. He claims the Scourge Virus only made them stronger and that the Coalition has no real advantage. As the Viltrumites board their ships, he invokes Argall’s words, “All is ours,” and vows not to fail while condemning Thaedus as a traitor sacrificing others for selfish reasons.

On a desolate planet, Omni-Man carves a massive stone memorial for Conquest. Oliver strongly objects, expressing his hatred for the destruction and death Conquest caused on Earth. He points out that people hate Conquest almost as much as they hate Omni-Man, making it hard to understand why his father would honor him at all.

Nolan checks on Mark, who is still in terrible condition. Oliver worries about his recovery and suggests finding a planet with proper medical care, but Nolan explains they are deep in Viltrumite territory and moving him would be too dangerous. Healing will take months, which frustrates Oliver, who wants to join the war and help save lives. He’s clearly shaken, admitting Mark has never been this badly hurt before.

Meanwhile, General Kregg orders Lucan and Kradd to head to Glacia Prime, where Coalition forces are attempting to take the planet. With no word from Conquest, Kregg tells them this is their chance to earn Thragg’s forgiveness by crushing the Coalition. Onboard their ship, Allen and Zoe remain hidden, trying to figure out their next move while passing time playing a video game. They decide they’ll escape and regroup with the Coalition once they reach the planet.

Back on the planet, Nolan battles a massive centipede-like creature that ultimately swallows him whole, only for him to violently burst out of its body. Oliver uses the creature’s fluids to feed Mark, though he refuses to eat himself until Nolan forces the issue. The next day, Nolan begins training Oliver, pushing him to fight harder. Oliver lashes out emotionally, confronting Nolan about overhearing him say his mother was a mistake. Hurt and confused, he asks if he was a mistake too. Nolan admits his failures as a father and tries to explain himself, but Oliver isn’t ready to forgive him and flies off.

At Glacia Prime, Allen and Zoe make their move. When they’re spotted by Lucan and Kradd, Allen throws Zoe toward safety and stays behind to fight. He’s quickly overwhelmed until Zoe returns with Space Racer, whose powerful weapon devastates their enemies and destroys part of the Viltrumite ship. Though injured, Kradd drifts off into space as the battle continues, and Paul rejoins the fight on the planet’s surface.

Back on the desolate world, Nolan realizes Mark isn’t healing properly and needs better nutrition. He and Oliver retrieve eggs from a cave, battling the creature guarding them. Oliver stops Nolan from killing it, reasoning that they’ll need a continued food source. Their teamwork marks a shift in their relationship, even as tension remains.

Allen and Zoe return to Telescria, where he reunites with Telia before meeting Thaedus. They also visit Battle Beast, who is thrilled by the endless opportunity for combat. Thaedus admits the Coalition is struggling and needs reinforcements, and Allen and Zoe are ready to step up. Nolan finally opens up to Oliver about his mother, admitting he lied before to spare Debbie more pain. He explains how Oliver’s people changed him and gave him a new perspective on life. He apologizes sincerely, and Oliver begins to soften, asking to hear more about his mother as they continue training and slowly rebuild their bond.

As the war rages on, the Coalition begins gaining ground. Nolan believes they have a real chance if they can rally more conquered worlds. Back at camp, Mark finally begins to stir, and Nolan assures Oliver that he’ll wake soon. Oliver admits he’ll miss their time together once they return to the war, showing how much their relationship has grown.

Elsewhere, Kregg reports to Thragg that the Viltrumites are losing ground as more planets join the Coalition. Thragg decides to strike Telescria directly, believing Thaedus has grown complacent. Speaking to Argall’s skull, he promises vengeance and prepares for a decisive attack. Mark finally awakens and reunites with Nolan and Oliver. There’s a mix of relief and humor as they tease each other about their appearances, but Mark struggles with the fact that he killed Conquest. Nolan reminds him that this is war and that they’re still needed.

During a Coalition meeting, tensions rise as leaders question how much longer the war can continue given the heavy losses. Thaedus insists it’s the only path forward, but their discussion is cut short when Telescria is suddenly attacked by a massive Viltrumite force led by Thragg. The assault is devastating, and it becomes clear they were betrayed from within.

Chaos erupts as Coalition forces scramble to defend the planet. Nolan, Mark, and Oliver arrive just in time to join the fight, working together to repel the Viltrumites while trying to avoid killing enslaved soldiers. They manage to destroy the flagship, forcing Thragg to retreat with only a handful of followers.

In the aftermath, the Coalition realizes their defense system was sabotaged from inside. Allen quickly identifies the culprit, confronting Data Twin #1, who in turn exposes Data Twin #2 as the true traitor. Mortally wounded, the second twin admits he betrayed them for years out of fear, believing the Viltrumites would inevitably win. He reveals that Thragg is retreating to Viltrum to regroup and summon all remaining forces.

Thaedus sees this as their opportunity. If they strike now and take down Thragg on Viltrum itself, they could end the war for good. Mark is stunned by the idea, realizing they may have to attack the very heart of the Viltrumite Empire.

This was a great episode that really balanced action with character development. Watching Oliver and Nolan finally begin to heal their relationship was one of the highlights, especially as Nolan showed genuine growth. Mark’s recovery was also a relief, and his return adds new momentum as the story heads toward its next major conflict. The lighter moments, like Oliver describing his “fizzy” feelings about a lobster, added some humor without undercutting the tension.

Thaedus continues to walk a fine line between determined leader and outright warmonger, while Thragg leans fully into fanaticism, clinging to Argall’s legacy in a way that borders on obsession. The reveal of the mole and the shift toward a final confrontation on Viltrum raise the stakes significantly.

One lingering question is the focus on Conquest’s memorial. The repeated attention makes it hard not to wonder if there’s more to it, especially given how resilient Viltrumites can be. Could Conquest somehow return? It’s an unsettling possibility. I gave this episode 5 stars out of 5.
