Ghosts Season 5 Episode 12 Recap: “The List” Brings a Harsh Reviewer to Woodstone

Two women, one in a striped blazer and the other in a teal dress, are looking surprised at an ornate box indoors. The mood is curious and intrigued.

Woodstone Mansion has hosted everything from headless greasers to judgmental high-society types, but Ghosts Season 5 Episode 12, titled "The List," just gave Sam and Jay their most terrifying challenge yet: a travel critic with a clipboard. Between the high stakes of a luxury hotel ranking and the usual spectral shenanigans, this week’s episode gave us panic-sweat comedy.

The High Stakes of "The List"

Sam and Jay are officially desperate for validation. This week, they welcomed Paul, played by the incomparable John Michael Higgins, a reviewer for a prestigious luxury hotel list. If you thought the ghosts were picky, Paul makes Hetty look like a laid-back backpacker.

The couple’s attempt to achieve "five-star" status nearly goes off the rails when they decide to gift Paul an ornate parlor box that belonged to Hetty. Naturally, Hetty is outraged. It’s not just the sentimental value; apparently, the box still contains a "medicinal" amount of cocaine from the 1890s. While Paul thinks he’s getting a charming antique, Sam and Jay are one accidental drug bust away from a very different kind of televised special.

Relationship "Thor-apy"

While the "living" were busy sucking up to the critic, the "dead" were busy fighting over furniture. Flower and Thorfinn hit their first major speed bump since becoming Woodstone's official "it" couple. The catalyst? A leather chair. Flower’s hippie sensibilities clashed with Thor’s Viking pride, leading to a hilarious flashback to Thor’s original marriage 1,000 years ago.

It turns out Thor has been making the same mistakes since the Viking Age. Pete, stepping in as a pseudo-therapist (using his travel agent "conflict resolution" skills), finally got Thor to realize that compromise isn't a sign of weakness, even if you have an axe.

The Bunker Ghost and a Family Secret

The real twist of the night came from the underground bunker. A new, vengeful spirit emerged, disrupting Paul’s evaluation with some classic haunting. However, the revelation that this ghost has a direct tie to the cult Flower belonged to and a shocking connection to Sam’s own family tree adds a layer of lore we didn’t see coming. Seeing Sam grapple with yet another problematic ancestor is the gift that keeps on giving. This new ghost Eugene intentionally sabatoged the visit because he hates his family the Woodstones because he was the black sheep having the "Woodstone Tail" but fortunately for Sam and Jay, when they tell Paul the truth he is happy to put them on the list if he gets to keep whats in the box.

Sam and Jay might not have a perfect score, but Ghosts certainly does.
