If you’ve been watching General Hospital lately and wondering whether the show has been quietly putting Jordan Ashford and Michael Corinthos together for a reason, you are not imagining things. Those increasingly frequent scenes between the two apparently aren’t just random workplace interactions. GH is officially seeing whether there might be something more there.

Tanisha Harper, who plays Jordan, confirmed to Soap Opera Digest that the show has been testing the possibility of a romantic connection between Jordan and Michael, currently played by Rory Gibson. Harper said she knew beforehand that the characters were going to begin moving into each other’s orbit, although there was no guarantee that it would ultimately become a romance.

Jordan and Michael Have More in Common Than You Might Think

On paper, Jordan and Michael might seem like one of those classic soap pairings that makes you stop and say, “Wait…what?” Once GH actually started putting them in scenes together, though, the writers began establishing some common ground.

Both characters have dealt with severe burns and physical disfigurement, giving Jordan and Michael a personal experience few people around them can completely understand. They have also become connected professionally through Aurora, allowing the show to bring them together naturally rather than suddenly throwing them into a romance out of nowhere.

Their connection has continued to grow on-screen. Michael was there as Jordan opened up about the complicated arrival of her estranged sister Monet, and the September 30 episode gave the pair even more material together when Michael arrived with news for Jordan. GH certainly isn’t being subtle about keeping these two around each other.

But Is GH Really Going There?

That is still the big question.

Harper made it clear that the idea was initially presented as something GH wanted to try rather than a predetermined romance. In other words, the show appears to be doing exactly what soaps have done for decades: put two actors together, watch the chemistry and see how the audience reacts before deciding how far to take things.

And there is certainly plenty for viewers to react to. Michael Corinthos is Sonny and Carly’s son, while Jordan has been one of Port Charles’ established adult characters for more than a decade. It is not necessarily a pairing most fans would have predicted, which might be exactly why GH finds it intriguing.

There is also the question of Michael’s complicated romantic history. His relationship with Willow has been through more twists than anyone should reasonably be expected to survive, and Lucy recently tried playing matchmaker between Michael and Serena. Now Jordan is suddenly spending more time with him, so his romantic future appears very much up for grabs.

For now, Jordan and Michael are still firmly in the “let’s see what happens” stage. But considering GH has now openly acknowledged that it is testing the pairing, every scene between them is going to hit a little differently.

Because apparently Port Charles woke up one morning and said, “Jordan and Michael? Hear us out.” And you know what? We’re listening.
