Futurama Ending Regular Hulu Run With Season 14 — But It’s Not Quite Goodbye

Futurama is coming to an end again. Yes, again.

The long-running animated comedy has wrapped its regular Hulu run with Season 14, as Hulu currently has no plans to order a traditional Season 15. The news arrives alongside the Sept. 28 season finale, appropriately titled “Final Ending: The Last Conclusion,” which may end up serving as another series finale for a show that has already survived multiple cancellations and revivals.

Before anyone starts writing the Planet Express obituary, though, this is not quite the end of Futurama. Hulu previously ordered three supersized specials, with the first set to arrive in 2027 as a Christmas-themed installment featuring Robot Santa. The additional specials remain in production, meaning Fry, Leela, Bender and the rest of the crew still have more adventures ahead even without another regular season currently on the schedule.

Series creator Matt Groening also does not sound convinced that viewers have seen the last traditional season of the show. Speaking with Variety, Groening pointed to Futurama’s very unusual history of ending and returning while saying the writers, animators and cast still have more stories they would like to tell. Considering this is a series that has already been canceled twice and revived twice, writing “The End” in permanent marker probably would not be the smartest move.

The upcoming specials may also dig deeper into the show’s larger history. Groening teased that storylines and questions dating back years will finally receive some payoff, although he stopped short of revealing exactly what fans should expect. That makes the specials sound less like bonus episodes and more like an opportunity to revisit pieces of the Futurama mythology that have been sitting on the shelf for a very long time.

Futurama originally premiered on Fox in 1999 before ending its first run in 2003. Comedy Central later brought the series back, followed years later by Hulu, which revived the show again in 2023. Season 14 premiered on Aug. 3, 2026, and concluded Sept. 28 after 10 episodes.

So yes, Futurama is ending its regular Hulu run for now, but if television history has taught us anything, it is probably best not to bet against this show finding another way back. For the moment, fans still have three specials ahead — and apparently a few long-awaited answers along with them.
