‘The Beast in Me’ Renewed for Season 2 at Netflix With Claire Danes Returning

Netflix isn’t finished with The Beast in Me just yet.

The streamer has officially renewed the psychological thriller for Season 2, with Claire Danes set to return as writer Aggie Wiggs. The renewal comes after the series originally arrived as a limited series, meaning Aggie’s increasingly complicated story will now continue into another chapter.

Season 1 followed Aggie as she became obsessed with her mysterious neighbor Nile Jarvis, played by Matthew Rhys, and began digging into the disappearance of his wife. What started as curiosity quickly became a dangerous game between the two, eventually pulling Aggie directly into Nile’s world and forcing her to confront some uncomfortable truths of her own.

Danes will once again star and executive produce the series. Howard Gordon, who wrote on the first season, will return as co-showrunner alongside Daniel Pearle.

Gordon said the creative team had always agreed that they would only move forward with another season if they found a story they believed could live up to what they accomplished the first time around. Apparently, that story has arrived.

What Could Season 2 of The Beast in Me Be About?

Netflix is keeping specific Season 2 story details under wraps for now, but Aggie’s return gives the series a clear anchor moving forward. The first season told a largely complete story surrounding Nile, while leaving Aggie changed by everything she experienced.

That creates plenty of room for The Beast in Me to evolve without simply repeating Season 1. Aggie could find herself drawn into another mystery, or the series could explore the consequences of the choices she made while investigating Nile.

One thing that has not been announced is whether any other Season 1 cast members will return alongside Danes. Netflix says additional information about the new season will be revealed at a later date.

The renewal also marks a major shift for a series that began its life as a limited drama. After earning significant awards attention and building an audience on Netflix, The Beast in Me clearly still has more story to tell.

There is currently no premiere date for The Beast in Me Season 2.
