Interview: Elizabeth Saunders Teases Donna’s Most Devastating Season Yet on MGM+’s FROM

If anyone in FROM deserves a nap, a vacation and probably a lifetime supply of stress-relief candles, it’s Donna.

For three seasons, the tough-as-nails Colony House leader has carried the weight of an entire town on her shoulders while everyone around her has been chased, haunted, manipulated, and occasionally torn apart by the horrors lurking outside after dark. But as Season 4 of MGM+’s FROM ramps up, even Donna may be reaching her breaking point.

During a recent interview with The TV Cave Podcast, Elizabeth Saunders opened up about Donna’s increasingly difficult journey, revealing that the character’s greatest enemy may not be the monsters stalking the town, it may be the responsibility she places on herself.

One of the most fascinating aspects of Donna has always been her ability to remain steady while everything around her falls apart. Unlike many of the town’s residents, she has rarely had the luxury of processing her own fear. Instead, she has spent years putting out fires, making impossible decisions, and trying to keep people alive in a place where survival is never guaranteed.

Saunders explained that her own experiences as a mother helped shape her understanding of the character.

"There’s always everybody underestimates motherhood," Saunders said. "I’ve been in those positions where I’ve had to long-term keep something under control that was almost always feeling beyond my reach."

That perspective helps explain why Donna often appears stronger than everyone around her. Strength, however, doesn’t mean fearlessness.

When asked what a manifestation of Donna’s deepest fear would look like in the twisted reality of FROM, Saunders didn’t hesitate. According to the actress, Donna’s greatest terror is failing the people she feels responsible for protecting.

Rather than confronting a monster with claws or teeth, Donna’s nightmare would be facing the consequences of believing she somehow allowed everyone around her to die.

"I think her fear is failing everybody else," Saunders said. "The destruction of everyone around her."

It’s a revealing answer and one that perfectly captures why Donna remains one of the series’ most compelling characters. She constantly carries responsibility that no single person could realistically shoulder, yet she continues to act as though every tragedy is hers to prevent.

That burden appears to become even heavier in Season 4. When asked to describe Donna’s journey this season in a single word, Saunders landed on a particularly striking choice: "shredding." Not shaken. Not challenged. Shredding.

The actress described a season where everything Donna has fought to hold together is slowly being ripped away piece by piece. For longtime viewers, that description should probably trigger immediate concern. Whenever Donna loses control of a situation, it usually means things are about to get very bad for everyone else.

And considering the increasingly unpredictable threats facing the town, Saunders’ comments suggest that Season 4 may push Donna further than fans have ever seen before. That’s saying something for a character who has already survived more than enough nightmares to fill several lifetimes.

As FROM continues to peel back layers of its mystery, Donna remains one of its emotional anchors. Saunders’ thoughtful insights offer a fascinating glimpse into the psychology behind the fan-favorite character and hint at a season that could test her limits in ways viewers never expected.

If "shredding" is the warning label for what lies ahead, fans may want to brace themselves. Donna has carried this town for years. Season 4 looks ready to find out what happens when even the strongest person in the room starts to crack.
