Elizabeth Hurley Joins ‘The ’Burbs’ Season 2 as Rob’s Mom

Hinkley Hills is getting a new resident and this one comes with a direct connection to the Fisher family.

Elizabeth Hurley has joined Season 2 of Peacock's The ’Burbs as a series regular, adding another recognizable face to the mystery comedy led by Keke Palmer and Jack Whitehall. Hurley will play Beverly Fisher, the mother of Whitehall's Rob Fisher, giving the upcoming season an opportunity to dig a little deeper into the family whose move back home helped kick off this entire suburban nightmare.

Details about Beverly and exactly what brings her into the picture are being kept under wraps. But after everything Season 1 revealed about Rob's childhood neighborhood, introducing his mother certainly gives us a few more questions to add to the growing Hinkley Hills pile.

Elizabeth Hurley Is Moving Into ‘The ’Burbs’

Hurley joins returning series regulars Keke Palmer, Jack Whitehall, Julia Duffy, Paula Pell, Mark Proksch and Kapil Talwalkar for the second season. Peacock has not yet revealed the larger Season 2 storyline or announced when the new episodes will premiere.

Hurley is, of course, no stranger to television or playing characters who know how to make an entrance. Her credits include The Royals, Gossip Girl and Runaways, along with films including Austin Powers: International Man of Mystery and Bedazzled. Now she's entering a neighborhood where suspicious neighbors, buried secrets and questionable HOA activities make an ordinary dysfunctional family gathering sound downright relaxing.

Casting Hurley specifically as Rob's mother is also intriguing considering how much of Season 1 was tied to Rob's history with Hinkley Hills. Samira may have entered the neighborhood as an outsider, but her husband's past, including his relationship with Naveen and the secrets he initially kept from her gradually became an important piece of the mystery.

Whether Beverly brings answers, additional family baggage or something entirely unexpected remains to be seen. With The ’Burbs, we're probably safer assuming nothing about anyone until we've checked the basement.

Celeste Hughey Already Had Season 2 in Her Head

Hurley's casting also brings things full circle for us here at The TV Cave.

Ahead of the show's Season 1 debut, The TV Cave sat down with creator and showrunner Celeste Hughey, along with stars Julia Duffy and Kapil Talwalkar, to discuss turning the 1989 cult classic into a television series. Even before Peacock officially committed to another season, Hughey made it clear that she wasn't approaching the story as a one-and-done mystery.

“I have already plotted the entire second season. I am so ready. I can see it all. I have the storyline in my head,” Hughey told The TV Cave at the time.

That comment became considerably more interesting after the finale blew open the mythology of Hinkley Hills. What initially appeared to be a mystery surrounding one creepy house eventually exposed something much larger lurking beneath the supposedly idyllic community.

Peacock subsequently made Hughey's plans official by renewing The ’Burbs for Season 2, and now we're beginning to see pieces of that next chapter fall into place. Hurley's Beverly Fisher is the first major new series regular announced for the season, and bringing another member of Rob's family onto the canvas feels particularly notable given Hughey's previous comments about already knowing where these characters were headed.

Season 1 Left Hinkley Hills With Plenty of Unfinished Business

Anyone who watched the Season 1 finale knows the neighborhood was nowhere near finished telling its story. Samira's investigation ultimately revealed that the danger in Hinkley Hills stretched far beyond the mysterious Victorian across the street. The finale exposed a conspiracy tied to the community itself, while Naveen's fate left the cul-de-sac crew with a very immediate problem heading into Season 2.

That ending also expanded the possibilities for the series. The ’Burbs began with Samira wondering whether something sinister was happening inside one suspicious house, only to reveal that the supposedly safe community around her had much bigger secrets.

Hughey told The TV Cave before the premiere that her goal was to create a new story and new characters while preserving recognizable pieces of the original movie's DNA. By the end of Season 1, the television version had firmly established its own mythology and Peacock clearly saw enough potential in Hinkley Hills to keep digging.

The first season generated more than 1.7 billion viewing minutes and spent four consecutive weeks among Nielsen's Top 10 streaming originals, giving Peacock plenty of incentive to reopen the neighborhood for another round.

So, What Does Rob’s Mom Know?

That's now one of our biggest questions.

Season 1 repeatedly showed that Rob knew more about Hinkley Hills than Samira initially realized, largely because this wasn't simply some random suburb to him. It's where he grew up. Adding his mother to Season 2 gives the writers a natural way to explore even more of that history without introducing someone completely disconnected from the existing story.

Of course, Peacock isn't telling us whether Beverly knows anything useful, whether she's still connected to Hinkley Hills or even what her relationship with Rob currently looks like. For all we know, she could arrive completely oblivious to everything happening around her.

But we watched Season 1. Nobody gets the benefit of the doubt in this neighborhood anymore.
