A woman and man face each other closely in an ornate room, sharing a tender, serious gaze against a warm painted backdrop.

Lives on the line, family betrayals, and a Halloween Salem will not soon forget.

This week on Days of Our Lives, Salem was filled with heartbreak, life-changing decisions, and the kind of family drama that makes this soap so compelling. Xander Kiriakis’ (Paul Telfer) fight for survival brought Sarah Horton (Linsey Godfrey) face-to-face with her true feelings, while Johnny DiMera (Carson Boatman) finally stood up to his father, EJ DiMera (Dan Feuerriegel). Meanwhile, Kristen DiMera (Stacy Haiduk) continued to face the consequences of her past, and Halloween brought its own share of surprises.

The week delivered several emotional payoffs, particularly for Sarah and Xander, while leaving plenty of unanswered questions about EJ’s increasingly dangerous behavior. From a long-awaited romantic reunion to a father and son reaching a devastating breaking point, Salem’s residents had plenty to confront. And just when it seemed the Halloween festivities might offer a moment of relief, the week ended with a chilling mystery that could have far-reaching consequences.

Sarah and Xander: A second chance at love

The week opened with Xander fighting for his life after taking a bullet for Sarah during a confrontation with George O’Halloran (Michael Rose). Xander managed to shoot George, but his own injuries left Sarah desperately trying to save him. At the hospital, Sarah’s fear of losing the man she loves was evident as Xander underwent surgery.

But while Sarah was praying for Xander’s survival, EJ’s involvement in the shooting threatened to complicate everything. After discovering that George had failed to retrieve the laptop containing evidence against him, EJ left the wounded man behind. Shawn Brady (Brandon Beemer) began asking EJ difficult questions, while Sarah remained at Xander’s bedside, hoping the man she loved would pull through.

Thankfully, Xander survived. His recovery also opened the door to an emotional family reconciliation when Maggie Horton (Suzanne Rogers) forgave her son. It was a welcome moment of healing after everything the family had endured.

Meanwhile, Sarah and Brady Black (Eric Martsolf) finally had an honest conversation about their relationship. Brady made it clear that he was setting Sarah free, allowing her to follow her heart without feeling guilty about leaving him behind. Their conversation made it clear that Sarah’s heart still belonged to Xander.

By Friday, Sarah and Xander were finally reunited. Sarah told Xander that she still loved him, and the two shared a deeply emotional moment. After everything they had endured, seeing them find their way back to each other was one of the week's most satisfying developments.

But their reunion may not be the end of their complicated love story. Xander’s questions about Brady suggested that the road ahead could still have its share of obstacles.

EJ and Johnny: A father and son at war

While Sarah and Xander were finding their way back to each other, Johnny and EJ were reaching a breaking point of their own. After Johnny decided to expose his father’s wrongdoing, EJ made it clear that he considered his son’s actions a betrayal of the DiMera family. But Johnny refused to back down. He explained that he wanted to break the destructive cycle established by EJ and Stefano DiMera (Joseph Mascolo), rather than continue repeating their mistakes.

EJ responded by disowning his son, leaving Johnny to face an uncertain future.

The confrontation was particularly effective because Johnny was not simply rejecting his father. He was choosing the kind of man and father he wanted to become. EJ, meanwhile, continued to demonstrate just how deeply he had fallen into the same patterns of manipulation and control that have plagued the DiMera family for generations.

Chad DiMera (Conner Floyd) also refused to be intimidated by EJ, warning him that rejecting Johnny for doing the right thing would eventually come back to haunt him. With EJ’s involvement in the shootings and Steve Johnson’s assault becoming increasingly difficult to conceal, his desperation was beginning to show. And as Johnny stood firm in his decision, the consequences of EJ’s actions threatened to tear the DiMera family apart.

Kristen, Marlena, and the complicated question of Dominic

Meanwhile, another complicated family mystery continued to unfold as Kristen faced unfinished business in Salem.

Kristen confided in Lani Price (Sal Stowers), who was celebrating her return to the Salem Police Department, and began addressing some of the unresolved issues from her past.

At the same time, Marlena Evans (Deidre Hall) struggled with whether to contact Dominic Marino (Kyle Pryor). The possibility that Dominic could be her son raised difficult questions about his connection to Stefano and the DiMera family.

Marlena’s hesitation was understandable. Reaching out to Dominic could finally provide answers to questions she has been waiting to resolve, but it could also open the door to even more uncertainty.

With Kristen confronting her past and Marlena wrestling with the possibility of a life-changing family revelation, the DiMera drama continued to take center stage. And as the week progressed, it became increasingly clear that some family secrets may be far more complicated than anyone could have imagined.

Salem's other developments

Amid the heartbreak and family betrayals, Salem also had a few reasons to celebrate. Johnny and Chanel Dupree DiMera (Raven Bowens) received wonderful news when Chanel learned that she was cancer-free. Their relief was a welcome contrast to the week's darker developments, offering a much-needed moment of happiness for the couple.

Lani also celebrated her return to the police force, while Julie Williams (Susan Seaforth Hayes) decided to end her relationship with Foster (actor credit unconfirmed). Julie made it clear that she valued their friendship but did not want a romantic relationship.

Elsewhere, Thomas DiMera (Cole Gersmeyer) had second thoughts about Cat Greene (AnnaLynne McCord), while Chad tried to reassure his son and enjoy Halloween together. Cat’s connection to EJ remained a concern, especially after Steve Johnson (Stephen Nichols) warned her about the danger of continuing her investigation.

And just when Halloween seemed to be winding down, the DiMera mansion became the setting for one more unsettling development. The week ended with EJ dreaming about Kristen and the possibility of killing her, only for Cat to wake him. But the real mystery was waiting outside the mansion.

A disguised figure watched through the window, leaving Salem with one more unanswered question as Halloween came to a close. Who was watching EJ and Cat? And what might this mysterious figure know about the increasingly dangerous DiMera family?

My thoughts

This was a strong week for Days of Our Lives, particularly because the show balanced emotional relationship drama with the darker, more suspenseful DiMera storyline. Sarah and Xander’s reunion was the emotional centerpiece, and the payoff felt earned after everything they have endured. I loved Brady telling Sarah he was setting her free. Thank goodness, no more Brady and Sarah! I do think the Days executives understand that Sarah and Xander need to be in each other’s orbit. Sarah vowing to stand by Xander was so amazing! Sarah and Xander are my jam, and seeing them express their love for each other was EPIC!!!

I also appreciated Johnny finally standing up to EJ. His decision to reject the toxic legacy of his family was one of the week's most meaningful developments, and it gave his character a clear sense of purpose. EJ’s response only reinforced why Johnny needed to make that choice. I could not help but flash back to Johnny when he was first SORASed and was hell-bent on not becoming an independent filmmaker. He cared nothing about DiMera but still wanted his father to be proud of him. It was such a contrast to the Johnny we saw this week, who was willing to risk his relationship with EJ to do what he believed was right.

I loved seeing Johnny and Chanel have an honest conversation about how his father has never rejected him before. You could feel how much it hurt Johnny to have EJ turn his back on him. Carson Boatman did a great job showing that pain, and it made the confrontation even more powerful. I really enjoyed Chad this week, too. His scenes with Thomas and EJ on Friday were really, really good. Conner Floyd played the emotions while recounting story points as if he were living them in the moment. He brings so much depth and heart to the role, and I continue to appreciate what he brings to Chad.

Special shoutout to Susan Seaforth Hayes! Julie and Foster’s conversation was great. Julie was honest about what she wanted, and Susan brought so much warmth and sincerity to the scene. It was a lovely reminder that not every emotional moment in Salem has to end in heartbreak.

Final thoughts

Overall, this week delivered romance, heartbreak, family conflict, and suspense. The strongest moments came when the characters were forced to confront what they truly wanted, rather than simply reacting to the latest crisis. Sarah and Xander finally got their emotional payoff, Johnny made a courageous decision that could change his relationship with EJ forever, and Chad continued to prove why he is such an important part of the DiMera family story.

But with EJ becoming increasingly dangerous, Kristen still facing unresolved issues, and a mysterious figure watching from outside the mansion, Salem’s residents may have more to fear than the usual Halloween tricks and treats.

Halloween may be over, but the nightmare is just beginning. And with a mysterious figure lurking outside the DiMera mansion, one question remains: Who was watching EJ and Cat, and what are they planning to do next?
