Synopsis: Cesar Nadal is one of the best investigators, so when he’s hired to dig up dirt on his employers competition, he figures this would be a cake walk. What he didn’t count on was becoming instantly enthralled by her.
Keeping a clean rep in a family like the Klarkes has been hard work for Deirdre Klarke. A new move to Austin is supposed to help solidify her place in the family, but her new competitors are making that difficult.
When she begins to feel as though she’s being watched, and random errands have been run while she was out or asleep, Deirdre thinks she’s going insane.
Instead, what begins as a simple recon, turns into a dangerous game of cat and mouse. How long can stalker/stalkee continue before all their secrets come out?
Thoughts: WOW! Yeah, this book had me really questioning some things about the way I see relationships. I’m still not sure if Cesar is a giant red flag with green flag tendencies, or if he’s really a green flag with red flag tendencies. This story took me on such a roller coaster. When I should have been screaming at her to do one thing, I was silently cheering her on for doing the opposite. While a part of me was outraged by his actions, a part of me was wondering if I could find a man like that.
Although I may be confused about my feelings regarding their relationship, I am not confused by how much I LOVED this book.
Whew, it took me on such a ride. With banter, spice and violence this book had a little bit of everything. Deirdre’s dedication to proving herself to her family with minimal bloodshed was hilarious when you meet her cousin. Cesar’s ability to play the sweet dutiful son/grandson while simultaneously stalking a woman gives this book a balance that keeps it from getting too dark. The juxtaposition between who they are and who they are showing the world, hits so close for a lot of us. Which gives the reader something more to connect with.
Shadowed Obsession is also in the same world as LoveFool by Cynthia A Rodriquez (check out my review for that one as well!) so there was some crossover with the characters which I also enjoyed.
Quotes:
I shouldn’t be impressed but if he were fictional, I’d let him take me to dinner.
-Deirdre
…instead of tossing the thong into the wash, it ended up in my pocket. As if by magic.
