Dr. Martin Best survived his first year in Port Wenn, but judging by the newly released Best Medicine Season 2 trailer, surviving Year 2 might require a little more patience. Unfortunately, patience has never exactly been Martin’s specialty.
FOX released the first official trailer for the medical dramedy’s sophomore season Wednesday, and Martin’s future in Port Wenn is suddenly looking a lot less certain. Josh Charles returns as the cranky doctor who reluctantly made the small Maine town his home, but the fallout from the Season 1 finale is coming back to bite him.
After Glendon reported that Elaine had been performing Martin’s blood draws, the state medical board is now involved. Martin’s blood phobia is no longer something he can quietly work around, and Season 2 introduces Parker, played by Jack Cutmore-Scott, as the professional monitor assigned to make sure Martin follows the board’s ruling.
Because having someone watching his every professional move apparently was not irritating enough, Parker also develops sparks with Louisa. Yes, Martin has a new problem, and this one is charming.
The trailer teases more tension between Martin and Louisa as Parker settles into Port Wenn, while Martin appears to question whether staying in town is really what he wants. After Season 1 spent so much time slowly making Port Wenn feel like home for a man who initially wanted absolutely nothing to do with it, the possibility of Martin walking away gives Season 2 an interesting place to start.
Of course, this is still Best Medicine, so the medical cases and eccentric residents of Port Wenn are not going anywhere. FOX is promising wilder cases and tested relationships as Martin attempts to navigate professional scrutiny, his increasingly complicated personal life and a town that has somehow managed to get under his skin.
Martin may have finally found a home in Port Wenn. Now Season 2 is going to find out how badly he actually wants to keep it.
Best Medicine Season 2 premieres Tuesday, September 22 at 8 p.m. ET/PT on FOX.
