Baywatch Finally Gets a FOX Premiere Date, and the Red Swimsuits Are Ready

Seven smiling lifeguards in red swimsuits walk arm-in-arm along a sunny beach with waves and blue sky behind them.

Get those red swimsuits out of storage because Baywatch is officially heading back to television, and FOX has finally given fans an exact date to circle on their calendars. The new series will premiere Wednesday, January 6, 2027, at 9 p.m. ET/PT, bringing a fresh generation of lifeguards, dangerous rescues, and enough beachside drama to make Southern California feel like the center of the television universe again.

FOX also unveiled a new teaser to celebrate the announcement, giving fans another taste of the action awaiting them when the iconic franchise returns. And yes, the slow-motion running is still very much part of the assignment. Some traditions simply cannot be abandoned.

Stephen Amell Is Taking Over the Beach

Leading the revival is Arrow star Stephen Amell as Hobie Buchannon, the son of David Hasselhoff's legendary Mitch Buchannon. Hobie is all grown up and now serves as a Baywatch captain, proving that saving lives apparently runs in the family.

However, keeping the beaches safe might actually be the easier part of his job. His personal life takes an unexpected turn when Charlie Vale (Jessica Belkin), a daughter he never knew existed, arrives determined to follow in the family's lifeguarding footsteps. Because what would Baywatch be without a little family drama mixed in with its ocean rescues? Hobie will have to navigate fatherhood, leadership, and whatever chaos washes ashore while maintaining the family legacy.

A New Generation With Some Familiar Faces

The ensemble includes Hassie Harrison as Nat, Shay Mitchell as Trina, Thaddeus LaGrone as Brad, Noah Beck as Luke, and Brooks Nader as Selene. Livvy Dunne also joins the action in a recurring role as Grace, making her acting debut.

But FOX isn't leaving the original generation completely behind. David Chokachi returns as Cody Madison, while Erika Eleniak, Michael Bergin, and Kelly Packard are also set to reprise their respective roles as Shauni McClain, J.D. Darius, and April Giminski. The returning characters should give longtime fans a little nostalgia while introducing the franchise to an audience that may know Baywatch more for its famous red swimsuits than its actual storylines.

Can Baywatch Make Another Splash?

The original Baywatch debuted in 1989 and became a worldwide television phenomenon during its 11-season run. With its combination of spectacular rescues, romance, larger-than-life characters, and the occasional gloriously ridiculous storyline, the series built a legacy that has lasted decades. This new chapter has a few advantages, including a recognizable franchise, an established leading man, and the opportunity to give the lifeguards more contemporary stories. Matt Nix serves as showrunner, while McG directed the premiere episode.

Of course, nostalgia alone won't keep a show afloat. The new Baywatch will have to deliver characters worth rooting for and stories that extend beyond looking fabulous while sprinting across the sand. Still, with legacy characters returning and a whole new generation ready to dive in, FOX has plenty to work with.

Baywatch premieres Wednesday, January 6, 2027, at 9 p.m. ET/PT on FOX. The first season consists of 12 episodes.

The red swimsuits are back, the lifeguards are on duty, and January suddenly looks a whole lot warmer.
