The Red Swimsuits Are Back! Stephen Amell Hits the Beach in FOX’s New ‘Baywatch’ Trailer

Lifeguards in red swimsuits sprint along a sunny beach, carrying red rescue buoys, with palm trees blurred behind them.

Grab your sunscreen, dust off those red swimsuits, and prepare for some dramatic slow-motion running because Baywatch is officially back in business!

FOX has released a new trailer for its upcoming Baywatch revival, and the beaches of Southern California are about to get a whole lot busier. Stephen Amell is leading the charge as Hobie Buchannon, the son of David Hasselhoff's legendary Mitch Buchannon. Yes, little Hobie is all grown up, and now he's the one responsible for keeping everybody alive. Where does the time go?

The new footage wastes little time reminding viewers that being a lifeguard involves more than looking good in a swimsuit. A plane crash sends the rescue team into action, and naturally, there's plenty of running across the sand. In slow motion, of course. Did you really think Baywatch was coming back without that?

Like Father, Like Daughter… Unfortunately for Hobie

While the ocean rescues are certainly part of the attraction, the real drama might be happening within the Buchannon family.

Hobie has followed in his father's footsteps and become a Baywatch captain, but his life gets complicated when his estranged daughter, Charlie Vale (Jessica Belkin), shows up wanting to become a lifeguard herself.

Now, longtime fans remember that Hobie wasn't exactly an angel growing up. He gave Mitch plenty of reasons to worry, and it looks like the universe has finally decided it's time for a little payback. Because nothing says karma quite like raising a child who inherited your stubborn streak.

Hobie isn't thrilled about Charlie choosing such a dangerous profession, but considering his own career choice and family history, we're guessing those fatherly lectures might not go over particularly well. Sir, you practically grew up on that beach. What did you expect?

Familiar Faces and a New Generation of Lifeguards

The revival isn't completely leaving the past behind. David Chokachi returns as Cody Madison, one of the familiar faces from the original series. Cody now operates the Shoreline bar and grill, but apparently, the lifeguard life is hard to shake because he still helps out with rescues. The new generation includes Shay Mitchell, Hassie Harrison, Thaddeus LaGrone, Noah Beck, and Brooks Nader, with Olivia "Livvy" Dunne also joining the cast.

And while the original Baywatch became a global phenomenon thanks to its combination of beachside romance, ridiculous amounts of drama, and those unforgettable red swimsuits, this version has a pretty big challenge ahead of it.

Nostalgia will get people to tune in, but it won't necessarily keep them watching. The new series needs characters worth investing in, relationships that bring the drama, and rescue sequences that give viewers a reason to care about something other than who's running down the beach.

Still, bringing Hobie back as a grown man with a daughter of his own is a clever way to connect the two generations. Instead of simply recreating Mitch Buchannon's story, the revival gets to explore what happens when the former troublemaker becomes the worried parent. And we already know that's going to be entertaining.

When Does the New ‘Baywatch’ Premiere?

The new Baywatch is scheduled to premiere in January 2027 on FOX, with a 12-episode first season. Matt Nix serves as showrunner, while McG directs the premiere episode.

There's no word yet on whether David Hasselhoff will make an appearance as Mitch Buchannon, but bringing the Buchannon family back into the spotlight certainly opens the door for some interesting possibilities. For now, the red swimsuits are ready, the lifeguards are back on duty, and Hobie Buchannon is discovering that parenting might be more exhausting than saving people from the ocean.

Welcome back to Baywatch. We've missed the drama, the rescues, and yes, even those ridiculously slow beach runs.
