‘A Man on the Inside’ to End With Season 3 as Netflix Adds More Big Names

Charles Nieuwendyk has one final case ahead of him. Netflix has confirmed that A Man on the Inside will end with its upcoming third season, bringing Ted Danson’s comedy-mystery series to a planned conclusion. Production on Season 3 is already underway in San Francisco, and Charles will have plenty of new faces to investigate before saying goodbye.

The final season has added an impressive list of guest stars, including Nick Offerman, Bernadette Peters, Rachel Dratch, Stephen Root, Jessica St. Clair, Christopher McDonald, Diedrich Bader and Annette O’Toole.

Danson will return as Charles, the retired professor who unexpectedly reinvented himself after answering an advertisement from private investigator Julie Kovalenko. His first undercover assignment sent him into a retirement community, while subsequent cases continued to push Charles into situations he never expected to encounter at this point in his life.

Series creator Mike Schur made it clear that Season 3 is being designed as an ending rather than the show simply disappearing without a conclusion. Schur reflected on how Charles began the series by taking a chance on a completely new life and said the team is excited to conclude his journey with one final chapter.

What We Know About A Man on the Inside Season 3

Netflix has not revealed every detail surrounding Charles’ final investigation, but the expanding guest cast suggests another case filled with potential suspects, eccentric personalities and plenty of opportunities for Danson to do what he does best.

The series has always balanced its mystery-of-the-season format with something considerably more emotional. Beneath the investigations, A Man on the Inside has explored aging, grief, friendship and the idea that starting over does not have an expiration date.

That makes giving Charles a proper ending especially fitting. Instead of simply solving another mystery and fading to black, Season 3 has the opportunity to bring his personal journey full circle and show just how much his decision to take that first undercover job changed him.

Netflix has not yet announced a premiere date for the third and final season, but with production already underway, Charles Nieuwendyk’s last investigation is officially in motion.
