Vacation Time First Officer’s Log, Stardate 3111.1: The Enterprise arrives at the Purmantee System—specifically Purmantee III, a popular vacation spot. The crew eagerly anticipates three days of shore leave, but Commander Una Chin-Riley (Number One) stays aboard to fulfill her duties. La’an tries to convince her to come along but is met with refusal. Meanwhile, an awkward dinner scene unfolds when Spock attempts to join La’an and Number One, only to be gently waved off. Number One probes, but La’an only reveals that she and Spock are “kind of dating… casually,” still uncertain about what that means. Both La’an and Number One clearly have questions about their personal lives and a vacation seems timely. Meanwhile, Captains Pike and Batel have clashing vacation plans—Pike wants to go camping, while Batel is scheduled for a dinner with Vice Admiral Pasalk, who is visiting planet-side. Batel hopes to regain her old job now that M’Benga says she’s medically stable. Though she won’t be captaining a ship soon, she can still appear in court. Pike agrees to help host her boss aboard the Enterprise. Plans Change The command crew gathers after receiving an emergency alert from the Vulcans. Spock explains the distress signal comes from Tezaar, a Vulcan-inhabited planet with no warp technology and a pre-Federation civilization. Assisting Tezaarians conflicts with the Prime Directive, which forbids interference with pre-warp societies. Uhura questions how Vulcans maintain relations with them despite this conflict. Spock clarifies that Vulcans contacted Tezaarians before the Federation or the Prime Directive existed—a convenient loophole, as Pelia jokingly notes. Spock details Tezaar’s unique nuclear-based power system, which is failing and threatens a planet-wide meltdown. The Vulcans are too far to help; the Enterprise is the only nearby vessel capable of intervention. This sets the main plot in motion. Things Get Complicated To repair the energy system, an away team must beam down. Though Tezaarians are pre-warp, their scanning technology is advanced enough to detect disguises. La’an and Pike agree that the team must appear Vulcan to avoid detection. Spock confirms. Becoming Vulcan Is No Small Task The away team—Pike, Uhura, La’an, Pelia, and Nurse Chapel—head to sickbay. Nurse Chapel has jury-rigged the Kerkhovian serum that transformed Spock from human to Vulcan, now modified to do the reverse: transform humans into Vulcans. She injects the team. All but Pelia collapse, writhing in pain as their bodies adjust—growing pointy ears, altered speech patterns, and new emotional responses. M’Benga speculates that Pelia’s immunity may be due to her Lanthanite alien heritage. Spock volunteers to cover Pelia’s role remotely from the bridge. Vulcan Pike and Chapel jokingly declare themselves “four-and-a-half Vulcans,” which strikes a chord with Spock. Donned in Tezaarian costumes, the team coolly proceeds to the transporter room. Mission Accomplished The away team successfully repairs the power system without Pelia’s help. Atomic levels stabilize. Vulcan Pike reports to Number One that the mission is complete. LT Ortegas quips she expected more excitement but looks forward to shore leave. After Scotty beams them back, the Enterprise heads for Purmantee III. Unexpected Consequences Spock faces his worst nightmare: the team doesn’t revert back to humans. They reveal a preference to remain Vulcan, finding human emotions illogical. At Purmantee III, Scotty beams Lieutenant Kirk aboard. The Farragut is docked for repairs, and Kirk stops by to visit his brother Sam, who is hiking solo on the planet. The newly minted Vulcans quickly adapt and begin making improvements aboard the Enterprise. What Happens Next? This episode had rich story potential, with many threads weaving simultaneously. It offered a unique perspective on what it might be like to be  Vulcan from a human standpoint. Standout moments included Pelia’s immunity, playful teasing of Spock as “half Vulcan,” and the surprise decision by Pike, La’an, Uhura, and Chapel to remain Vulcan permanently. Uhura brainwashed Beto, Chapel severed all personal ties to focus entirely on science, and Vulcan Pike took drastic measures—including sabotaging Batel’s meeting with her boss. La’an, more formidable than ever, weaponizes the Enterprise and threatens war. Meanwhile, the unexpected sweetness of Doug and Number One’s interactions, the camaraderie between Kirk and Scotty, and Pelia’s alien revelation added depth. The closing outtake, with Spock teaching Doug about humanity and contractions, provided some well-timed humor. Missed Opportunities It was a shame the episode didn’t explore the intriguing Romulan hint dropped in the scene between La’an and Pike outside the Jeffries tube. I also would have loved a glimpse of the crew enjoying shore leave on Purmantee III and more interaction with the Tezaarians—Star Trek’s only other Vulcan-related planet beyond Vulcan itself. The stunning, aggressive tango between La’an and Spock—with Spock wearing a broad, happy smile—was a memorable and unexpected highlight. Overall, “Four-and-a-Half Vulcans”  delivered a memorable and multifaceted episode, blending humor, drama, and character growth with the classic Star Trek spirit.

The Runarounds  is an unexpected gem. Created by Jonas Pate, the mind behind Outer Banks , this series came to life through an open casting call that formed a real band from the chosen actors—a brilliant decision that truly pays off. Across 8 episodes, you get to follow a group of friends navigating life, dreams, and the pursuit of fame. This fictional story follows Charlie Cooper, Neil Crosby, Topher Park, Pete Antuna, and later Bez Willis, as they chase their dream of becoming a rock band in Wilmington, North Carolina. Starting as high schoolers playing wherever they can, they believe in their talent despite the odds. Their band’s quirky name, The Runarounds, fits their journey perfectly as they strive to leave a mark on the music industry. Narrated by Charlie (played by William Lipton), the band’s founder, the story dives into their ups and downs—from personal struggles and family drama to the hard choices they make to pursue their passion. One pivotal moment is replacing their original drummer with Bez Willis, the final piece that elevates their sound and performance. Meanwhile, their former drummer steps up as their unofficial manager, securing real gigs that slowly push them forward. With only one summer after graduation to make it work, the stakes are high. Their families, burdened by real-world problems like financial stress, health issues, and parenting challenges, offer little encouragement. Yet, support comes from old friends and new allies, alongside blossoming romance and self-discovery. These layers make you root deeply for the band’s success. The Runarounds  is energized, addictive entertainment. It blends band drama, family tension, romance, and a jaw-dropping 19-year family secret that adds a shocking twist. The characters’ resilience in the face of adversity is inspiring, and moments of humor, like performing to recover stolen instruments, add levity and showcase their talent. The series is infused with music inspired by a seemingly divine muse, making the story even more compelling. It’s incredible this all unfolds over one summer. Watching these guys transform from friends to brothers amid joy, sadness, surprises, and fun is a whirlwind experience that had me binge all 8 episodes in one go. The music alone makes this series a must-watch—each episode is packed with live performances that feel like personal rock concerts. One breathtaking scene is an impromptu rooftop concert meant to impress a music producer. The cast, especially William Lipton and Ambyr Michelle (both soap alumni), deliver sensational performances that bring authenticity and heart to the show. Huge kudos to the entire cast, writers, directors, and crew for creating such a memorable, feel-good series with thrilling music scenes and intense moments that are incredibly well executed. The Runarounds  brilliantly shows how challenging and eye-opening the pursuit of a dream can be—but don’t let that discourage you. Did the band achieve their dream? It’s definitely worth watching to find out.

The latest episodes of Miss Governor  pick up with a dramatic turn—Governor Harper collapses in his office, setting the stage for Lieutenant Governor Antoinette Dunkerson to step further into the spotlight. As Mississippi’s first Black female lieutenant governor, Antoinette is still adjusting to her role but clearly isn't content with the limited tasks assigned to her by Governor Harper. She promptly fires her assigned chief-of-staff and builds her own trusted team, which includes her cousin Shamika. Terri Vaughn and Jade Novah are a perfect pairing. Their sharp comedic timing brings just the right amount of levity as Antoinette navigates stormy political waters. Dyon Brooks (as Basil) continues to bring charm and laughter—especially in his growing relationship with Shamika—even as his character embarks on a new career. The political tension rises when Jed (Governor Harper’s chief-of-staff) and Henry attempt to cover up the Governor’s condition to keep Antoinette from assuming power. Their increasingly ridiculous attempts to distract her fuel the comedy. Jade Novah and Dyon Brooks shine in these scenes, especially through their expressive reactions and physical comedy. Eventually, with their help, Antoinette uncovers the truth and gains more authority. As Antoinette embraces her role more fully, her political savvy and leadership blossom. Vaughn delivers a standout performance, showing a woman becoming more confident, poised, and strategic. From negotiating with shady power players to standing firm against racial undertones, Antoinette evolves into a true gubernatorial force. The show takes viewers behind the curtain into the world of elite political donors. One standout arc involves Antoinette attending a wealthy retreat she disapproves of, only to outmaneuver a powerful donor blocking a community project. Her success—without compromising her integrity—is one of the show’s most satisfying wins. Antoinette’s home life remains a source of comic relief and heartfelt moments. Her outspoken mother, Cleo Dunkerson, adds sass and wisdom, while her teenagers, Lola and Titus, deliver chaos and charm in equal measure. And yes, fans finally get the long-anticipated romantic moment between Antoinette and Michael. Back at the office, the antics are far from over. Jed continues his underhanded efforts to undermine Antoinette’s success, with Henry as his loyal accomplice. Kevin Thoms deserves praise for portraying Jed in a way that makes viewers love  to hate  him. His shady dealings include attempting to bribe Shamika and engineering bizarre distractions—including a hilarious scene involving a conspiracy-theorist intruder babbling about lizard people trying to steal the governorship. These last eight episodes show marked improvement in both storytelling and character development. The actors handle their roles with increasing ease and finesse, adding depth and humor. The introduction of Antoinette’s personal staff breathes new life into the show’s dynamic, highlighting her growth as a leader who won’t back down from racial or political challenges. The rotating guest stars blend seamlessly into the fictional political world, each bringing their own comedic flair. What sets Miss Governor  apart is its unique mix of light satire, honest emotion, and pointed social commentary. It doesn’t just poke fun at politics—it highlights resilience, leadership, and community with a comedic twist. Thanks to Terri Vaughn’s commanding performance, Antoinette Dunkerson emerges as a rare figure in television: a realistic, funny, and inspiring role model. This series has truly hit its stride.
