Amazon Prime's The Girlfriend (adapted from the novel into a six-part series) starts with a whisper and ends with a scream. The pacing is deliberate: slow to start, but the suspense creeps in episode by episode until you realize you’ve been waiting on baited breath for the next plot to drop. The next move to be made or the next puzzle piece to be revealed. At the center is Laura, who on the surface has it all: a doting husband, wealth, and the picture-perfect family portrait. However, beneath it all is grief, the kind no parent should ever know, the loss of her daughter. That grief has turned into a suffocating devotion to her son, Daniel. Let’s just say Laura takes “boy mom” energy and cranks it up to a Freudian 11. In fact, their first scene together had me squinting, wondering if Daniel was her young lover. Nope...he's her son. Yikes on bikes. Then comes Cherry, Daniel’s new flame with a dark past and the kind of nonchalant menace that keeps you side-eyeing her every move. She’s vengeful; after a split with a man she later stalked, she proceeds to ruin his wedding...I won't spoil it here, but it involves a cake. Cherry is opportunistic, and appears to be completely unbothered. One can tell that there is something going on with her emotionally and mentally. She comes with red flags, but she is smart, beautiful, and witty.  She has had a tough go of it and is a go-getter trying to be better than where she came from. Of course, those red flags aren’t what stands out and Daniel falls head over heels despite those red flags. The real fun begins when Laura realizes Cherry has her bracelet on when they first meet during a dinner. One that she hadn't noticed was missing, she later checks and cue the silent war. What follows is less meet the parents  and more Monster-in-Law  with psychological thriller flair. Lies are told, lives are unraveled, and the back-and-forth cat-and-mouse tension becomes the heartbeat of the series. The acting is strong, the twists keep you guessing, and the mounting tension is what keeps you tuned into The Girlfriend. There is a catch, however; none of these characters are actually likable. Laura is obsessive, Daniel is both enabler and complainer, Howard the husband loves his wife but can’t resist weaponizing her career against her when things don't go his way. Then there is Cherry… Well, she’s Cherry. At some point, I wanted to root for Cherry, because of the way the story unfolds, from her point of view. You just kind of want to see her win. That is when things get a little sinister, it is a bit of a mind game that feels intentional. However, it also makes it hard to root for anyone.  Despite two slower opening episodes, the series kept me engaged. I found myself constantly asking: who is really the villain here? I have my theories, but I’ll save them for a spoiler-filled final review when the last episode drops. For now, The Girlfriend earns a solid 6 out of 10. It’s messy, twisty, and occasionally maddening, but like a bad relationship, it’s hard to look away.

I went into The Paper  not expecting it to be a sequel to The Office . I came in with an open mind, ready for an office comedy. The problem? I didn’t laugh once during the five episodes I watched. The issue isn't the premise, because the idea of a paper company with a newsroom has real potential. Especially one that has warring digital and print versions, the execution simply doesn't deliver. The characters don’t stand out, and they aren’t memorable. At the center is The Truth Teller , a failing newspaper that Ned is trying to save as the new editor-in-chief. The first episode begins with Ned’s arrival and our introduction to the staff. Esmerelda, the interim editor from the digital Paper TVV, along with her sidekick Ken, gives off a Michael and Dwight dynamic, but without the charm or the humor. Instead, their antics feel more like bullying than misguided comedy. Esmerelda in particular feels unlikable, more interested in gossip-blog antics than actual journalism. The first three episodes were painfully dull, but I stuck with it to get a sense of the direction. Things improved slightly in the fourth episode when a group of high school journalists visited, ironically showing up the Truth Teller  staff with their better instincts and skills. This storyline led to a feud with a local teen blogger who has a massive following, adding some spark. Episode five built on this momentum with a catfishing scandal. But while the situations seemed primed for laughs, the writing still didn't land, and the laughs still didn't come. There are a few bright spots. Mare, one of the only real journalists on staff, is both compelling and potentially a love interest for Ned. Nicole and Detrick’s awkward, evolving relationship shows promise. Nicole’s quiet cynicism, paired with Detrick’s lack of social cues, makes for an interesting mix. These moments hint at what The Paper  could be if it leaned into sharper writing and more layered character work. The problem is the humor: it’s dry, much like The Office's humor could be at times. However, The Paper  lacks that same cleverness. It lacks bite. The flow of the show drags, and even the better storylines can't overcome the lack of laughs. Despite good acting and a promising setup, the writing fails to deliver. Final Verdict: The Paper  earns a 4 out of 10. There's potential here, but until the writing finds its comedic rhythm, it's hard to recommend sticking with it.

Yes, Dr. Wolf is back, his team is still genius-level dysfunctional, and there’s enough emotional chaos to fuel an entire neurology department. This trailer is your official invitation back into the mind of Zachary Quinto’s Dr. Oliver Wolf, a brilliant yet beautifully broken neurologist whose passion for his patients is matched only by his struggle to keep his personal life from completely imploding. So, buckle up. Season 2 is not here to play nice. What’s New in Brilliant Minds Season 2? The trailer kicks things off with a bang. We meet a professional boxer whose brain just won’t cooperate. Enter Dr. Wolf and his quirky crew of hyper-intelligent weirdos ready to crack the medical mystery. The visuals are striking, the stakes are higher, and there’s a lot more shouting than any hospital HR department would be okay with. We also get a glimpse of several new characters, including Dr. Anthony Thorne, an ER doc with charisma and attitude to spare. Bellamy Young joins the cast as Dr. Amelia Frederick, the new clinical director who looks like she means business. There’s also fresh drama among the residents, and did we mention Dr. Wolf ends up strapped to a bed? That’s not a spoiler. It’s a vibe. When and Where to Watch Season 2 premieres Monday, September 22 at 10 PM on NBC and will be available for streaming the next day on Peacock.
