Twenty Years of Military Service Major Shah has completed twenty years in the U.S. Army. General Davidson congratulates him as the base celebrates his accomplishment. Major Shah tells all his friends and family how much his military career means to him. He is grateful for all the friends and family he’s made during those twenty years. Corporal Papadakis gives him a balloon because Major Shah loves the movie Up . He has eighty more in the van and promises to bring them in to test if they can get lift-off in a high-ceilinged room. Major Shah can’t wait. Sergeant Conway gives him a hard candy wreath with all his favorite candy flavors: brown, light brown, and beige. He loves that, and Captain Maggie’s gift fills him with joy. It is an inappropriately somber singing cactus. Captain Celeste Shah stands quietly by, watching her husband gleefully enjoy all his friends’ goofy gifts. Celeste didn’t bring him a gift and says she didn’t know it was a “thing.” Major Shah and Captain Maggie quickly say it’s not. Colonel Quinn comes over and contradicts them. He says it’s the biggest thing. It is the time Major Shah gets his lifetime healthcare, pension, and respect—and acknowledgment from moi . Colonel Quinn gives Major Shah a challenge coin with six different colors. Shah is humbled. He thanks them all and tells them he loves them and all their gifts. Moved by the emotional moment, Celeste gives her husband the matcha drink she’d been sipping as her gift. Everyone stays quiet except, of course, Colonel Quinn. He says what no one else will. He puts Celeste on the spot and questions her gift choice. Major Shah thanks her and hesitantly asks if he has to drink it. Retirement Possibility General Davidson goes to see Colonel Quinn in his office before leaving. He came to antagonize him one last time. Quinn is packing for a camping trip with Major Shah. The general says it’s great they are having one last hurrah before Major Shah retires. Shah is considering retirement and has met with a transition officer in Baumholder. Colonel Quinn doesn’t believe the general. There’s a funny scene where Major Shah enters Quinn’s office to give him some paperwork, and Quinn tries to find out if Shah will still be there in 6–12 months without outright asking if he’s retiring. The information the general shared was privileged. Major Shah doesn’t know what the general and colonel are alluding to, so he chooses to leave and let them figure it out. Colonel Quinn tells General Davidson he will convince Shah not to retire and become a lifer on their camping trip. The general says that will only convince Shah he should have retired five years ago. Colonel Quinn tells General Davidson that he needs a hobby, to which the general indicates antagonizing the colonel is  his hobby. Love Triangle Captain Maggie and Sergeant Conway sit in the dining facility talking about Major Shah’s twenty-year service celebration. They both agree Celeste really messed up with her gift. Conway says she knows Maggie loved seeing that. Maggie says she didn’t, because she still has feelings for Major Shah. Celeste comes over to join them. She asks if Abe/Major Shah was upset that she didn’t do more for his twentieth celebration. She wants to run some gift ideas past them so they can tell her which ones are good. None of Celeste’s ideas are good. The hot-stone idea is way out there. She was going to gather some stones from their yard, heat them in their stove, and place them on Abe. YIKES! Sergeant Conway explains why that is such a bad idea. Celeste asks them to help her plan a dinner party with Shah’s friends as her gift to him. She says her marriage is on the line. Conway tries to get out of it, but Maggie agrees to help. She says they are going to save the Shahs’ marriage. Nature Time Colonel Quinn and Major Shah pack up the van and get ready to leave for their camping trip. Shah is confused when Quinn gets in on the passenger side when he was about to get in himself. He asks who’s driving, and the colonel says Corporal Papadakis is. It’s one of the perks of the twenty-year club. Papadakis will stay in the van during their trip. They are about to drive off when General Davidson stops them. He tells the colonel he’s coming with them to make sure he doesn’t talk Major Shah out of retiring. He also brought two lifers, Merkle and Funt, who are coming too. They arrive at Colonel Quinn’s campsite in the Dutch countryside. Quinn begins his lifer campaign with Major Shah. He tells him how good it will be when he becomes a lifer. He says that’s when the body finally lets you reach peak physical condition. They have fun throwing axes at a target in the woods and enjoying nature. Papadakis begins listening to an audiobook of the Bible in the van. It’s narrated by Hank Azaria, and he loves the start of it. At the biergarten, Captain Celeste and Maggie plan the celebration dinner party. They will have it at the authentic Indian restaurant in town where they serve food like his grandmother used to make. Shah really loves it. Celeste agrees to everything. The general and colonel drink a bottle of alcohol in a sweat tent. General Davidson and Major Shah sweat rivers, but Colonel Quinn doesn’t perspire at all. Shah finds out they know about his appointment with the transition officer. He says he hasn’t decided anything. Celeste is the one leaving the Army, and she wanted him to meet with the transition officer and possibly retire too. He says that was a way to possibly save their marriage. General Davidson and Colonel Quinn begin arguing again. Major Shah stops them. He just wanted some time in the woods. Instead, it turned out badly. Maggie becomes overly helpful to Celeste. Sergeant Conway sets her straight when she finds out Maggie volunteered to write Celeste’s speech for the dinner party. Conway leaves in frustration. Major Shah goes walking in the dark while semi-drunk. He trips and falls over something. The next morning, Colonel Quinn and General Davidson are arguing again outside. They hear a sound and head toward it. It’s Major Shah. He sprained his ankle. The colonel and general make a stretcher. Merkle, Funt, Quinn, and Davidson carry him to the van about five miles away. Colonel Quinn tries calling Papadakis in the van but gets no answer. Papadakis is still listening to the Bible audiobook. Celebration Party and Let’s Call It Quits They make it back to Stroopsdorf and hold Major Shah’s twentieth-anniversary celebration party. Shah tells the colonel he is thinking about leaving the Army. The colonel tells him to think about it carefully. Celeste gives her speech, and they toast Abe. Later, Celeste tells Shah she didn’t plan the party or write the speech—Maggie did everything. They decide it’s too much work trying to save their marriage. Maggie receives a visit from Rick Silver, the CIA operative from her past. They had broken up, but Maggie Facebooked his mom and she contacted him. He arrives at Shah’s party to see Maggie. Major Shah asks Sergeant Conway and Jan if they’ve seen Maggie. They point across the room. She’s having fun in Rick Silver’s arms. Twenty years of military service was a sobering moment for Major Shah. He was unsure whether to stay in the military and become a lifer or leave with his wife. This is something many people face in real life. The camaraderie between Colonel Quinn and General Davidson was nice to see. Captain Maggie’s super-niceness and inability to say “no” went too far, and Sergeant Conway had to talk some sense into her. So Maggie finally gave up on Major Shah and decided to find someone—or something—to help her forget her feelings for him. She did. One question that wasn’t answered: did Major Shah and Celeste actually decide to break up? The episode hit some good points and had some good laughs. I give this episode 4.7 Stars out of 5.

Smash, Grabs, and Sibling Rivalries The "A-story" carries a bit more weight as Danny and Lena investigate a deadly smash-and-grab at a local shop that left a victim named Hal dead. The trail leads to a tactical vest left at the scene, belonging to a man who “lent” it out. Danny, in true Reagan fashion, delivers a cold promise: the crew is going down, and the lender is going with them. The twist? The man's brother, Dylan, is the one pulling the strings. It’s a solid procedural beat, but one we’ve seen executed with more punch in earlier episodes. Sarah’s Parent Trap The emotional core of the episode centers on Sarah’s boyfriend’s daughter, Phoebe. With her mother moving to Japan, Phoebe is desperate to stay in Boston and avoid another custody battle. Sarah’s hesitation to become a full-time parental figure is one of the more honest moments of the episode. This subplot merges with the main action when Sarah and Phoebe’s "bonding dinner" is interrupted by the smash-and-grab gunmen fleeing a botched heist. The restaurant becomes a hostage scene, but thanks to Sarah’s quick thinking, leaving her phone on so Lena can listen in, the BPD manages to move in. By the time the smoke clears, Sarah finds her maternal instincts and agrees to let Phoebe stay. It’s a tidy resolution, perhaps a bit too tidy for a show that claims to be "Boston Tough." Mae’s Blast from the Past Over at the DA’s office, Mae Silver is forced to take over a case after her ADA faceplants in court. The real story, however, is the judge. It turns out he and Mae have a history, and he’s still carrying a torch for "the one that got away." The episode ends with a bouquet of flowers and a dinner invitation. While Gloria Reuben is always a delight, the romantic subplot felt like it belonged in a different series entirely. The TV Cave Verdict: A Mid-Season Slump? I’ll be honest: "Family Secrets" was a struggle to get through. What started as a promising expansion of the Reagan universe is beginning to feel like a drag. The pacing is off and the stakes don't feel as high as they should for a Friday night powerhouse. If the show doesn't find its footing soon, these weekly recaps might become a thing of the past. There is a new heavy hitter in town, and it wears a badge and a permanent scowl of emotional exhaustion. If you haven’t tuned into Sheriff Country yet, what exactly are you doing with your life? Season 1, Episode 11, aptly titled "The Aftermath," just dropped and it solidified the show as the absolute gold standard of freshman dramas. Following the high-octane-in-the-sticks energy of last week’s siege, "The Aftermath" slows things down just enough to break our hearts while keeping the conspiracy fires burning bright. From medal ceremonies to hit-and-runs and a breakup that actually made us feel things, Edgewater is officially a mess and we are here for every second of it. Medals, Free Meals, and Post-Traumatic Stress The episode features Mickey doing the honors, awarding Boone and Cassidy the Medal of Honor for stopping the siege. It’s a nice gesture but Mickey really should have pinned one on herself while she was at it. The fallout of the siege has turned Cassidy and Boone into local celebrities. Boone is leaning into the "hero" persona and honestly, who can blame him for enjoying a free breakfast? Cassidy, however, is struggling. She’s the definition of a reluctant hero, haunted by the fact that she killed a suspect in self-defense. While Mickey and Boone try to tell her it was a clean shoot, Cassidy can’t reconcile "police work" with "taking a life." Her guilt is manifesting as insomnia and a hair-trigger temper, which doesn't bode well for someone carrying a service weapon. The Courthouse Security Test from Hell The "case of the week" starts with a classic bait-and-switch. Two guys, Theo and Reed, break into the courthouse, download sensitive files and copy paperwork before waiting for the cops to arrive. Turns out, they weren't criminals, they were hired by the County to test security in the wake of the station siege. The test was a success or a failure depending what side you are on, mostly because the security guard was literally caught napping. While the guard lost his job (deservedly so, dude), things took a dark turn when Theo ended up as a human pancake in a hit-and-run. And this wasn't an accident; the killer backed up to make sure the job was finished. The investigation leads Mickey and the team to a corrupt Judge taking kickbacks to send young offenders to a specific jail. This hits Cassidy right in the gut, as her missing sister was sentenced to that very same facility. In a move fueled by sheer desperation for justice, Cassidy gives Reed a tip that helps nail the Judge. It’s messy, it’s legally grey and it’s exactly why we love this show. Love Is Dead (Or at Least on Life Support) On the personal front, everything is falling apart. We started the episode with Boone and Nora in a "celebrity couple" honeymoon phase but that crashed hard. Once Nora saw the actual photos from the siege and realized her husband almost died, she tapped out. She loves Boone but she cannot go back to being a "cop’s wife" waiting for a knock on the door. It’s a devastating, grounded moment that reminds us this show isn't just about gunfights. Then there’s Mickey and Travis. They were "all a glow" until Skye caught them and dropped a truth bomb: Travis is acting as the defense attorney for Barlow. Mickey gives him an ultimatum, the case or her and Travis chooses his client. It’s a cold move, but Travis claims the FBI is the reason he almost lost his life. Skye, being the legend she is, quits her job with Travis and goes to work for her aunt instead. As Travis leaves, he tells Mickey he’ll be back. Is she waiting for him? Or does this finally open the door for the "Moone" (Mickey/Boone) shippers to get what they want? The Verdict Between the return of Mickey’s emotional father, Wes (thankfully without any "grower" subplots this week) and that cliffhanger phone call to Cassidy about her sister, "The Aftermath" was a masterclass in pacing. Sheriff Country manages to be a procedural that actually cares about its characters' mental health and we can't wait to see how Mickey cleans up this latest Edgewater explosion. Port Charles exploded with secrets, shocking confessions, and unexpected alliances this week on General Hospital . A deadly emergency, political maneuvering, and several romantic entanglements kept the drama at a fever pitch. Family Secrets and Dangerous Confessions The biggest shock came when Josslyn Jacks and her mother Carly Spencer finally confronted their growing tension. Carly revealed she knows Josslyn is working as a WSB agent, prompting a shocking confession: Josslyn admitted she killed Cyrus Renault. The truth ignited a massive blowout between mother and daughter as Josslyn also revealed the real reason she joined the bureau. Meanwhile, Carly found comfort elsewhere. After leaning on Valentin Cassadine during the emotional fallout, the two shared an intimate night together. Josslyn’s week didn’t slow down either—she stunned viewers by capturing Valentin, proving she’s far more capable in the spy world than anyone realized. Romance, Rivalries, and Risky Relationships Romantic drama unfolded across Port Charles. Sonny Corinthos and ADA Ada Turner finally gave in to their attraction despite the serious professional risks. The pair acknowledged their relationship could destroy both their careers and reputations, but passion won out. Elsewhere, Lulu Spencer revealed her close relationship with Nathan West to Maxie Jones, who did not take the news well. Maxie insisted Nathan has every right to move on—but not with her best friend. The situation escalated when Felicia Scorpio caught Lulu and Nathan kissing at the hospital and demanded answers. Meanwhile, sparks flew for Trina Robinson after friends encouraged her to give a mysterious new guy a chance. Her dazzling rendition of “Happy Birthday” left quite the impression. A Tragedy Leads to New Life One of the week’s most emotional storylines unfolded when Harrison Chase and Brook Lynn Quartermaine discovered a pregnant woman named Delilah collapsed near the park. They rushed her to General Hospital, where doctors performed an emergency C-section. Though the baby girl survived and was taken to the NICU, Delilah tragically died despite the medical team’s efforts, leaving behind a heartbreaking mystery surrounding her identity and child. Power Plays and Political Schemes Political intrigue also dominated Port Charles. After hitting multiple dead ends, ADA Turner officially declared the investigation into Drew Cain’s shooting a cold case. The move cleared suspicion hanging over Michael Corinthos, though lingering doubts remain. Meanwhile, newly appointed Congresswoman Willow Cain began settling into Drew’s former office. She kept Kai Taylor on staff, impressed by his political instincts. Kai quickly proved his value by helping Gio Palmieri navigate emotional-support animal paperwork. But Willow’s ambitions raised eyebrows when she hinted she might use her political power to gain full custody of her children. Suspicion, Secrets, and New Mysteries Dangerous revelations surfaced elsewhere in town. Britt Westbourne confided in Jack Brennan that WSB Director Director Cullum may be a double agent working with the dangerous Jenz Sidwell. At the same time, Carly’s search through Sidwell’s home uncovered a hidden wall safe—raising even more questions about what the mysterious power player might be hiding. Elsewhere, emotional family moments played out across town. Curtis Ashford surprised Portia Robinson by giving her the family home so their children could keep their roots there. Meanwhile, Jordan Ashford quietly worried she might be pregnant. The week closed with several unanswered questions—from the future of De lilah’s newborn to the mounting conspiracies surrounding Sidwell—ensuring Port Charles won’t be quiet anytime soon.

The emotions are running high and lines are blurring in this week’s Matlock.  A lot of this episode is focused on bringing Julian into the fold of Matty and Olympia’s story. With where we left off last week, Julian now knows that Matty is not who she says she is and this was all to gather information for her case against Jacobson-Moore. This leaves him at an odd spot, he has to work with someone that he doesn’t trust and does not want to get to know better, but if he doesn’t, he runs the risk of going to jail. He throws out some threats at Matty and she doesn’t want to work with him either. She says that this won’t work unless she gets an apology from him for causing Ellie’s death due to his involvement with the Wellbrexa documents. Throughout the episode, we see Matty and Julian learn more about each other and grow to work together and be cordial enough.  The case of the week focuses in on a caregiver who is being accused of manslaughter due to her client dying. They suspect that she is guilty of this due to his death being caused by aspirin being in his bloodstream. This affects Matty especially because she’s thinking of Julian and the Wellbrexa case. Her and Olympia argue about this and Olympia is also struggling with the situation because she wants to be there for both of them.  We also have the introduction of our new associate, Hunter, who is taking Billy’s place on Olympia’s team. Once again, Billy’s character is not needed so I’m totally fine with the fact that he is gone. We do see Sarah struggle with this and the fact that she is no longer on Olympia’s team throughout this episode. She sees how Hunter is bringing out some playfulness and happiness with Matty and Olympia and she misses them. It makes it even more awkward that her desk is still in the office with Hunter and Matty, so it’s not like she could avoid them even if she wanted to. I feel for Sarah and I do hope that eventually she comes back on board with Olympia, but I can’t even predict a timeline of that happening. On the flip side, so far, Hunter’s character is interesting to me but I don’t know enough to be invested yet. He’s a typical bro and brings a very different energy to the group, not in a bad way, but just not what I was expecting. Throughout all of this, he provides some solid points in Matty & Olympia’s case and helped them to prove the client’s innocence. We also see the return of Shay’s character this week, due to the merger at the firm, she is back in the office. I actually like Shay’s character and I think that bringing her on for a more long-term role could be an interesting plot point.  Overall, another good episode of Matlock. It didn’t blow me away like last weeks, but still a good time and I’m curious to see what’s to come in the remaining episodes of Season 2.
