Days of Our Lives Shocker: Lexie Carver Returns After 14 Years

Woman lying down, eyes closed, under green light glow. Wearing a hospital gown, relaxed expression. Background is blurred.

In the world of daytime soaps, death is usually about as permanent as a celebrity marriage. We’ve seen characters return from the "afterlife" via secret islands, plastic surgery swaps, and memory-wiping microchips. But even for a show that once featured a demonic possession, the latest bombshell has fans dropping their remote controls: Lexie Carver is back on Days of Our Lives.

After 14 years of gathering dust in the great beyond, Salem’s favorite DiMera princess has been officially resurrected. If you thought the Carver/Price family dynamic was already messy, grab your popcorn because things are about to get radioactive.

The Return of the DiMera Empress

Let’s be real: when Renée Jones retired in 2012 and Lexie died of a brain tumor in Abe’s arms, we all actually believed it. Silly us. This is Days, where Dr. Rolf’s "mad scientist" resume is the only thing more consistent than the lack of security at University Hospital.

The March 6 episode finally gave us the payoff to weeks of "What’s in the pod?" speculation. As it turns out, the mystery occupant wasn't a clone or a Stefano reboot, it was Lexie. While we’re losing the legendary Renée Jones to retirement, Nikki Crawford has stepped into the role with a grace that says, "I’ve been in a sci-fi coma for a decade, and I still look better than you."

Why This Shakeup Actually Works

Some might roll their eyes at another Dr. Rolf miracle, but Lexie’s return is a masterstroke for the current narrative. For years, Abe Carver has been the moral compass of Salem. His pairing with Paulina Price (played by the incomparable Jackée Harry) brought a fresh, brassy energy to the show.

By dropping Lexie back into the mix, the writers have created the ultimate soap opera trope: the "Dead Wife vs. The New Wife" showdown. Crawford’s Lexie isn’t just a ghost; she’s a DiMera. That means she brings a certain level of calculated fire that Paulina might not be prepared to handle. Watching these two powerhouses fight for Abe’s heart is the kind of high-stakes drama that keeps Peacock subscriptions active.

A New Era for the Carvers

Beyond the romance, Lexie’s return provides much-needed tissue for Theo Carver. Seeing a grown-up Theo interact with a mother who hasn't aged a day since 2012 is going to be poignant, weird and exactly the kind of emotional manipulation we tune in for.

Whether Lexie remains the saintly doctor we remember or leans into her darker DiMera roots remains to be seen. Given the state of Salem lately, we’re rooting for a little bit of both.

Between Crawford’s commanding screen presence and the inevitable fallout for Abe and Paulina, the "Lexie is back" era is shaping up to be the most addictive storyline of the year.

What do you think of the Lexie Carver recast? Are you Team Paulina or Team Lexie? Head over to the comments and let us know if you think this resurrection was a stroke of genius or a step too far!
