To Hell and Back: The X-Men ’97 Season 2 Trailer Drops and It’s Pure Cartoon Nostalgia

Superheroes charge in a neon sci-fi corridor as a woman fires blue energy from her head, with debris flying.

Dust off your yellow spandex and dig out those old VHS tapes. The first official X-Men ’97 Season 2 trailer just dropped and it proves that Marvel actually remembers how to make people excited about superheroes. After leaving fans weeping over a ruined Genosha and a scattered mutant team, Disney+ has finally given a glimpse into what comes next. The verdict? It looks like a wild ride through the timeline and the wait until the July 1, 2026 release date is going to feel like an eternity.

Apocalypse Now (Literally)

The brand-new footage wastes no time addressing the massive cliffhanger from the first season finale. The X-Men are officially lost in time and the universe is not rolling out the red carpet for them. Instead of a cozy family reunion, the team is fractured across history.

The meat of the trailer focuses on Egypt, where a few of our stranded heroes cross paths with a young En Sabah Nur. Yes, Apocalypse is back and he is poised to be the big bad of the season. For comic book nerds, the hints toward the legendary Age of Apocalypse storyline are impossible to miss. The trailer also introduces Rama-Tut, because apparently, one time-traveling tyrant just was not enough for a nine-episode season.

Grief, New Mutants, and Leather Jackets

What made the first season work so well was the emotional weight, and the X-Men ’97 Season 2 trailer promises plenty of mutant angst. Rogue is still reeling from the devastating loss of Gambit and the footage shows her channeling that grief.

But it is not all moping in the X-Mansion. The preview gives quick, tantalizing looks at iconic comic teams like X-Factor and X-Force. Fans with quick eyes can spot major character debuts, including:

  • Polaris and her signature green hair

  • Wolfsbane looking ready to shred

  • Kid Omega bringing some serious telekinetic attitude

The animation looks just as crisp and vibrant as before, keeping that Saturday-morning aesthetic while upgrading the action sequences for modern TVs. Marvel also dropped a new teaser poster that directly pays homage to the legendary 1982 Wolverine #1 comic cover, proving the creators still know exactly how to play to the nostalgia crowd.

Will It Live Up to the Hype?

Following up on a wildly successful first season is a tall order. However, this sneak peek shows that the creative team is not playing it safe. They are diving headfirst into the deep end of Marvel lore, mixing time travel, ancient deities, and heavy emotional stakes.

The countdown to July 2026 has officially started. Mark the calendars, brace for more mutant drama, and prepare for Apocalypse to show the world how a real villain gets things done.
