Grab your lab coats and lower your expectations, TV watchers. After a lengthy vacation from the primetime lineup, NBC’s neuro-drama Brilliant Minds returns tonight, Wednesday, May 27, at 8 p.m. ET. It is sliding into a brand-new time slot. It turns out the network pulled the show back in February to make room for The Voice. Now, they are burning off the final six episodes of Season 2.
NBC swung the cancellation axe on May 1, officially ending the series due to low ratings. If you are wondering why you should bother tuning in, the network promises a proper ending. Before checking back into Bronx General, you will need a quick refresher on where the show left off.
The Mind-Bending Twist
When we last saw Dr. Oliver Wolf (Zachary Quinto), he was not doing great. In Episode 14, "The Invisible Man," a carbon monoxide leak hit the hospital. Wolf insisted he left a woman named Sofia in a sleep study room. However, when Carol reviewed the security footage, Wolf was completely alone. Sofia was a hallucination.
This revelation followed weeks of personal issues. His estranged father abandoned him again. Meanwhile, Charlie entered his life under false pretenses. All of that emotional weight finally cracked Wolf's brilliant mind. Tonight's episode, "The Missing Person," deals with the aftermath as Wolf goes missing and his friends search for him.
Love Triangle Troubles
The gas leak did more than expose Wolf's hallucinations. Dr. Josh Nichols ended up in a hyperbaric chamber. As his current boyfriend, Beau, watched over him, a groggy Josh muttered his ex-boyfriend's name. Saying "Wolf" instead of your current partner's name is an awkward way to exit a hiatus.
The Final Diagnosis
The final stretch features guest appearances from Mamie Gummer, Ed Begley Jr., and Ana Ortiz. These six episodes will wrap up Wolf's journey, which reportedly leads to a psychiatric facility. You can watch the return live on NBC or stream it tomorrow on Peacock.
