Wisteria Lane Returns: Kerry Washington Teams Up with Hulu for a Bold 'Desperate Housewives' Reboot

A Classic Revived for a New Era

Guess what Cavers? Desperate Housewives is making a comeback! It’s been a minute since the original left the screens and Emmy nominated actress and producer Kerry Washington feels it has been long enough as she is reviving the series for Hulu. This reboot, which they are calling Wisteria Lane, is set to offer a fresh take on suburban secrets. With Washington’s production company, Simpson Street, leading the charge and Hulu’s Onyx Collective backing the project, we are excited for a new generation of mysterious women. 

The Legacy of Desperate Housewives

The original Desperate Housewives (2004 to 2012) had millions tuning in to witness mystery and satire. Created by Marc Cherry, the show followed the lives of women in the seemingly idyllic suburb of Fairview. Over eight seasons, it became a cultural phenomenon, earned multiple awards, and launched and relaunched careers including that of Eva Longoria and Felicity Huffman.

Now, the reboot aims to reintroduce the Desperate Housewives universe to a new audience.

Kerry Washington and Hulu’s Vision for Wisteria Lane

Fresh Faces, Familiar Street

Kerry Washington, known for her role in Scandal as Olivia Pope and her production company Simpson Street, is bringing a fresh and inclusive lens to the reboot. She’s partnering with Hulu’s Onyx Collective (not the first time as she starred in the now canceled UnPrisoned) to give us this reboot. 

The new series will give us five new friends living on the same cul-de-sac street, following the original structure, so get ready for incoming secrets, scandal and plenty of plot twists. 

Meet the Creative Team

Natalie Chaidez (Queen of the South, The Flight Attendant) is set to write the pilot. Washington will executive produce alongside Stacey Sher and Pilar Savone. While Marc Cherry is not officially on board, he has expressed interest.

What to Expect from the Reboot

Potential Return of Original Cast Members

No confirmation but there is a chance that Eva Longoria may make cameo appearances or other original cast may reprise their roles. Longoria has publicly expressed her excitement about returning to Wisteria Lane if the story is right.

Streaming Power on Hulu

Unlike its network TV predecessor, the reboot will be a Hulu original which means edgier content that today’s audiences crave.
