A Familiar Face Joins the Fire Country Universe
CBS is doubling down on its hit drama Fire Country with an exciting new spinoff titled Sheriff Country, and it just added a major name to the cast: Matt Lauria. Known for standout roles in Friday Night Lights, CSI: Vegas, and Parenthood, Lauria’s may generate enough buzz to get fans to tune in. Viewers are upset about the recent news of two series regulars leaving the flagship show. We covered this in our Podcast episode this week so be sure to check it out here.
Who Is Matt Lauria?
He’s tackled sports drama (Friday Night Lights) and catching criminals (CSI: Vegas), Lauria has proven he can handle emotionally complex and high-stakes roles.
In Sheriff Country, Lauria will portray Boone, the chief deputy and right hand man to Deputy Mickey Fox. They have been partners for years but Boone feels he was looked over for the job that has gone to Mickey so it isn’t all BFF’s forever with these two.
Inside “Sheriff Country”: The New CBS Crime Drama to Watch
A spinoff of the wildfire-rescue series Fire Country, Sheriff Country shifts focus to rural law enforcement in the fictional small town of Edgewater. Leading the cast is Morena Baccarin, playing Deputy Mickey Fox, a determined law enforcer juggling criminal investigations, a complicated relationship with her ex-con father (played by W. Earl Brown), and a daughter hiding dangerous secrets. We see a new universal being built like its direct competition 9-1-1. Let’s see if this is as successful, but casting well known tv actors is key.
Why Matt Lauria’s Casting Is a Smart Move by CBS
Casting Matt Lauria doesn’t just have the potential of being a fan-favorite decision, it’s a strategic one. CBS has a history of nurturing long-running procedural hits (NCIS, Blue Bloods, The Mentalist), and Lauria’s established credibility with TV audiences gives Sheriff Country a strong chance to last a few seasons.
His most recent roles include Outer Range and Tell Me a Story.
When and Where to Watch “Sheriff Country”
Sheriff Country has been greenlit for a full series order and is expected to debut in fall 2025 on CBS. Streaming will likely be available on Paramount+..
With Matt Lauria’s casting, Sheriff Country is shaping up to be one of CBS’s most anticipated new series of the 2025–2026 TV season. Between the proven success of Fire Country and a powerhouse cast, all signs point to a breakout hit.
