Will Trent Season 4 Episode 8 Review: When a Vampire Case Hits Close to Home

A person inspects a film reel intently in a dim room with wooden cabinets. The mood is focused, with shadows and warm lighting.

Father-Son Vampire Murder Case Team-Up

Will called his bio Dad, Sheriff Roussard, to pick him up. His Porsche died on a side road before he got to the family dinner at his Dad's house. Sheriff Roussard arrives and gives Will a hard time about his vehicle of choice. They are discussing each other's  choices when Sheriff Roussard gets a call about a murder. Will and Betty go along.

They go to the crime scene and after a brief investigation, and a talk with the movie ticket vendor, Pam, they find out the victim is a woman laid out in the drive-in movie parking lot worked there. Roussard and Will notice something strange about where the body is located. The deceased woman, Avery,  also has two holes on the side of her neck. She looks like she's in a coffin. They get Pam to turn on the outside lights and it shows the body laid out on a pentagram painting. Pam tells them about the guy the victim used to hang around with, Victor, the projectionist.

Sheriff Roussard and Will interview Victor at his house. Victor tells them about his alternative lifestyle. He thinks he's a vampire. Roussard and Will ask him about the victim and their relationship. After a few questions, Victor tells them he didn't kill Avery. Will believes Victor's being framed despite the fact Victor sleeps in a coffin. Sheriff Roussard is not as empathetic as Will and wants to arrest Victor.

Later, they also uncover a fentanyl drug ring run by Pam. They find her secret stash on the ticket booth. She's the movie ticket vendor and also sells fentanyl.

The way Will and Sheriff interact and try to tentatively build a close relationship is interesting to watch. They are so much alike. They both have uniquely keen powers of observation and are socially awkward, blunt, argumentative, one-track-minded, determined and are relentless at finding the truth. Yes, they even look alike. Roussard has a comedic side to his investigative questioning skills. Will's pent-up feelings erupt and they fight at the hospital. Curious to see how this family feud turns out.

Faith and Pete help the investigation remotely. Will and Roussard go to see someone who does know how to exsanguinate animals. It's Victor's Dad. Avery was going to help Victor reconnect with his Dad. Now they have a new motive and possibly an obsessed, creepy suspect. Watch to see how things turn out. They also save a life who gives Will some advice about exploring the darkness.

Amanda Goes Shopping and Gets Robbed

The episode pivots to another storyline with Amanda. She's at a store shopping for clothes and is leaving the dressing room as the store gets robbed. At first, Amanda freezes and drops to the floor and hides, reliving the trauma and PTSD from the last time she was shot. She begins having flashbacks, and is shaking with fear when one of the robber's points a gun directly at her head. She sees a child wander out onto the store floor in the middle of the robbery. Her self-defense skills take over, and she grabs the robber's gun and shoots one killing him, and takes down a second one. She fires at the third robber, but he escapes with the loot. Everything is happening so quickly. Amanda saves the child and some other people, but she is so traumatized.

Investigating One of Their Own

The police detectives investigating the robbery and shootings are Angie and Ormewood. They go to the store and find out Amanda has locked herself in the dressing room and won't come out. Angie distracts a robbery detective, Jesse, who's also there to talk to Amanda. Ormewood gets her to unlock the door, and tells her she's a hero. Amanda denies it. She's in shock. Ormewood helps her to her feet and her. This was a very touching scene.

Amanda continues having PTSD episodes. Faith helps her and she finds her in the bathroom crying. Internal Affairs Director Appleyard comes to interrogate Amanda, but Faith stops him.

Interviewing one of the robbers, Walton Moreland gives them a new lead, his girlfriend, Delphine. She’s  the key to finding the third robber and a storage unit of loot. Angie and Ormewood get to the unit and find that third robber, Shamus. Angie captures him in a  comical way.

Family Dinner and Talking Helps

It was great to see Will and his biological Dad, Sheriff Roussard, working together again. They were also trying to work things out between them, and build a relationship. The case that brought them together again was bizarre, which involved someone trying to reunite a father and son. How coincidental it is.

Watching how devastated Amanda was, is heart wrenching. This story also shows how much her co-workers united around her, to protect her. She's an absolute Hero. Ormewood shines through and helps her admit some things even she had trouble dealing with and gave her a way to get more help. It was more fun watching Will and his Dad bonding, than seeing how easily and well they worked together. Roussard was empathetic to Will. This was an episode that really touched some nerves. It was intensely emotional, and excellently done in writing, acting and production.

I give this episode 5 Stars out of 5.
