When Does Ghosts Return to CBS? Here's Why There Was No New Episode This Week

If you tuned into CBS on Thursday, November 5, expecting a new episode of Ghosts, you probably found yourself wondering where everybody at Woodstone went. After last week's two-part Halloween special, it certainly seemed like our favorite supernatural troublemakers were back for another season. Well, not quite.
CBS has a different plan for Ghosts this year, and the network's scheduling is causing some understandable confusion. While Season 6 technically kicked off with the Halloween special on October 29, the show's regular weekly run won't begin until 2027.
When Will Ghosts Return?
The good news is that we don't have to wait until next year to visit Woodstone again. Ghosts will return on Thursday, December 10, 2026, at 9 p.m. ET/PT, with a special hourlong Christmas event.
The holiday installment, dubbed “Ghostmas,” will give fans another chance to catch up with Sam, Jay, and the spirits before the series settles back into its regular schedule. The special is expected to feature a Die Hard-inspired storyline, which sounds like a perfectly chaotic way for this group to celebrate Christmas. As for the rest of Season 6, CBS has confirmed that Ghosts will return as part of its midseason lineup in 2027. An exact premiere date hasn't been announced yet.
Why Isn't Ghosts Airing Every Thursday?
CBS made an unusual scheduling decision for the 2026–2027 television season. Rather than bringing Ghosts back for its traditional fall run, the network moved the comedy to midseason while giving other shows room on its Thursday schedule.
That includes Georgie & Mandy's First Marriage and the new vampire comedy Eternally Yours. The network is using the fall to establish that comedy pairing before bringing Ghosts back for its regular episodes.
To keep fans from going an entire fall without their favorite spirits, CBS scheduled special Halloween and Christmas events. The Halloween episodes, “Halloween 6: The Mirror, Part 1” and “Part 2,” aired October 29 and are listed as the first two episodes of Season 6 on Paramount+. And that's where things get a little confusing. When a show labels its Halloween special as the first two episodes of a new season, it's understandable that fans would expect Episode 3 the following Thursday. Instead, we're getting another break.
What's Next for the Woodstone Ghosts?
The Halloween special introduced some major developments, including Kyle stepping in to help with the ghosts while Sam was away filming Polar Opposites. Hetty also reunited with her estranged sister, Margaret, while the situation surrounding Pete gave everyone plenty to think about.
Those stories will carry into the next chapter of the series, but fans will have to wait for the Christmas special to see more. And given how things tend to go at Woodstone, a peaceful holiday celebration seems highly unlikely. For now, the two-part Halloween event is available to stream on Paramount+, along with earlier seasons of the series.
So, if you were sitting in front of your television on November 5 wondering why Ghosts wasn't on, you're not alone. The show hasn't been canceled, and it hasn't disappeared from CBS. We just have to survive one more scheduling interruption before returning to Woodstone on December 10.
After that, the regular weekly adventures will resume sometime in 2027. Apparently, even ghosts need an extended holiday break.
