What to Watch Tuesday, September 8: ‘The Drop: A Snowfall Saga’ Premieres, ‘RHONY’ Returns & More

Tuesday night has a little something for everybody, but if you have been waiting to return to the world of Snowfall, we already know where your attention is going.

FX launches The Drop: A Snowfall Saga tonight, bringing Gail Bean and Isaiah John back as Wanda Bell and Leon Simmons for a new story set in 1990s Los Angeles. Elsewhere, The Real Housewives of New York City returns for Season 16, Jeopardy! Masters crowns its latest champion and America’s Got Talent continues its live competition. Netflix is getting in on the action too, with several new arrivals including DANG!, Fauda Season 5 and a new Untold documentary about Mr. T.

TV Cave Top Pick: The Drop: A Snowfall Saga

The world of Snowfall isn't finished just yet.

The Drop: A Snowfall Saga premieres tonight on FX and Hulu, with Wanda and Leon taking center stage following the events of the original series. Set in 1990s Los Angeles, the spinoff finds the pair trying to reinvent themselves as the fallout from the crack epidemic intersects with the rise of West Coast rap.

Wanda believes rap has the potential to reshape American culture and sets out to assemble a group capable of making their mark on the music industry. Her ambitions bring her into the orbit of former drug dealer turned label owner Darryl “DG” Grant, while Leon is attempting to leave the streets behind and pursue a different path through his free legal clinic.

Naturally, nothing in the Snowfall universe is ever going to be that simple.

The new series also stars Asante Blackk as Lamar Kinsey, Peyton Alex Smith as James Kinsey, Simmie “Buddy” Sims III as rapper Artillery and Brandon Mychal Smith as DG.

RHONY Is Back

Bravo is also making some noise tonight with the Season 16 premiere of The Real Housewives of New York City. Whatever your feelings about the newer era of RHONY, a Housewives premiere always has the potential to give us something to discuss the next morning. The new season premieres at 8 PM ET on Bravo, followed by Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen at 9 PM.

Jeopardy! Masters Crowns a Champion

After another tournament featuring some of the best players in Jeopardy! history, Jeopardy! Masters reaches its Season 4 finale tonight on ABC. The competition wraps at 8 PM ET with the remaining players battling for the championship and the $500,000 grand prize.

Netflix Has a Busy Tuesday

If you're skipping traditional TV altogether, Netflix has several fresh options. The streamer launches adult animated comedy DANG! alongside Season 5 of Fauda. There's also Untold Mr. T: I Pity the Fool, which turns the spotlight on the life and career of Mr. T, and comedian Stavros Halkias' new stand-up special Uncle Stav. That gives Netflix a surprisingly varied Tuesday lineup: animation, international drama, documentary and stand-up all arriving on the same day.

What Are We Watching?

There are plenty of choices tonight, but The Drop: A Snowfall Saga gets our remote. Snowfall built a world that still had stories left to tell when the original series ended, and putting Wanda and Leon at the center gives the franchise an opportunity to explore Los Angeles from a different perspective. Throw in the rise of West Coast hip-hop and the changing city around them, and FX has found a pretty intriguing way back into this universe.

Then again, if RHONY gives us something ridiculous during its premiere, all bets are off.
