What to Watch Thursday, October 29: ‘Ghosts,’ ‘Grey’s Anatomy’ & ‘American Horror Story’

Two men stand in a dim room beside a purple quilt-covered object, talking with concerned expressions near patterned curtains.

Thursday television is getting into the Halloween spirit, and nobody is taking the assignment more seriously than the residents of Woodstone Mansion. CBS delivers a special hour of Ghosts, while FX brings American Horror Story Season 13 to its conclusion just in time for the holiday.

Meanwhile, ABC keeps the emergencies coming with 9-1-1, 9-1-1: Nashville and Grey's Anatomy, while NBC has another round of betrayals on The Traitors: New Blood. Between haunted mirrors, hospital drama and people lying for prize money, Thursday is looking wonderfully chaotic.

TV Cave Top Pick: Ghosts — Halloween 6: The Mirror

Our TV Cave Top Pick goes to Ghosts, airing a special two-episode Halloween event beginning at 9 PM ET on CBS.

Halloween is already a complicated holiday at Woodstone Mansion, but this year's celebration comes with a particularly unwelcome visitor. When Jay accidentally breaks a mirror and replaces it with an antique, he unknowingly brings Hetty's sister Margaret into the mansion. And Margaret isn't interested in a friendly family reunion.

With the veil between the living and the dead unusually thin, Margaret finds an opportunity to settle an old score with Hetty. Meanwhile, the other ghosts have their own supernatural plans, and Pete's very specific wishes about séances threaten to complicate matters further.

It's the perfect setup for the show's particular brand of supernatural comedy, where centuries-old family grudges somehow manage to be just as messy as modern ones. Woodstone may be a bed-and-breakfast, but its ghostly residents are making a strong case for never booking a room there on Halloween.

‘9-1-1’ and ‘Grey’s Anatomy’ Keep ABC Busy

ABC's Thursday lineup begins with 9-1-1 at 8 PM, followed by 9-1-1: Nashville at 9 PM. Both shows continue their new seasons with more dangerous emergencies and personal drama, because these first responders apparently aren't allowed to have a quiet shift.

At 10 PM, Grey's Anatomy returns with “It's All Wrong, but It's All Right.” Grey Sloan's doctors have another hour of medical and personal complications ahead, and anyone familiar with this hospital knows those two categories rarely stay separate for very long.

‘American Horror Story’ Wraps Season 13

Just two days before Halloween, American Horror Story concludes its thirteenth season on FX.

The latest installment has brought familiar characters and supernatural threats back into the franchise's increasingly tangled mythology. With the Coven confronting an ancient evil, the finale promises one more round of witchcraft, dangerous choices and consequences that won't be easily undone.

The timing couldn't be better for a horror finale, especially for a franchise that has never been particularly interested in letting its characters enjoy a peaceful ending. Disney's official release calendar lists the finale episodes for Hulu at 9 PM Pacific, meaning East Coast subscribers will see them at midnight Friday.

Halloween Comedy, Reality Competition and More

CBS begins the evening with Georgie & Mandy's First Marriage at 8 PM. Georgie and Mandy get caught between their mothers over CeeCee's Halloween costume, while Missy and Mary clash over Halloween plans. Nothing brings a family together quite like disagreeing about what a child should wear for trick-or-treating.

At 8:30 PM, Eternally Yours also celebrates Halloween, with Liz inviting her boss over and Max accidentally putting the family in danger after using an ancient protective relic as a candy bowl. For a household of vampires, you'd think someone would know better than to put magical artifacts next to the Halloween candy.

Elsewhere, NBC's The Traitors: New Blood continues its game of deception at 8 PM, while FOX's Hell's Kitchen challenges its chefs to demonstrate their pizza-making skills. At 9 PM, Special Forces: World's Toughest Test sends its recruits into another physically demanding mission.

Netflix also adds You, Me, Us, a romantic drama about a couple navigating their differences while pursuing adoption, alongside the horror film Balaraw: Blood Island. Both arrive Thursday for subscribers looking beyond the broadcast lineup.

With a double helping of Ghosts, the American Horror Story finale and new episodes across ABC, NBC and FOX, Thursday is giving Halloween week a proper send-off. Woodstone Mansion earns our Top Pick, but there's plenty of competition for the remote.
