Friday television is bringing a major crossover, a Reagan family reunion and a few new streaming premieres to kick off the weekend. CBS is putting Edgewater through another crisis as Sheriff Country and Fire Country team up for a two-part event, while Boston Blue welcomes a familiar face from the Reagan family.

Meanwhile, Apple TV has Awkwafina attempting to master the kitchen, Paramount+ introduces a new comedy, and NBC keeps the laughs coming with Happy's Place. Between a prison break, a diamond heist and some questionable cooking skills, Friday has a little something for everybody.

TV Cave Top Pick: Sheriff Country and Fire Country Crossover

CBS | 8–10 PM ET

The Sheriff Country and Fire Country crossover is our TV Cave Top Pick, bringing Mickey Fox and Bode Leone into the same dangerous emergency. The two-hour event begins with Sheriff Country at 8 PM and continues with Fire Country at 9 PM.

A dangerous prison break escalates into a hostage crisis, forcing Sheriff Mickey Fox and her team to confront an increasingly volatile situation. As the emergency spreads, Station 42 becomes involved in the rescue effort, bringing the two sides of Edgewater's public safety community together.

Morena Baccarin crosses into Fire Country, while Max Thieriot, Kevin Alejandro and Jules Latimer appear in Sheriff Country. With the two series sharing the same world and several complicated family connections, this is exactly the kind of crossover that makes sense. And judging by the situation, nobody in Edgewater is having a relaxing Friday night.

‘Boston Blue’ Brings a Reagan Family Reunion

At 10 PM, Boston Blue welcomes Will Estes as Jamie Reagan, bringing another familiar face from Blue Bloods into Danny's new life in Boston. What starts as a visit quickly becomes something more complicated when the brothers find themselves investigating a diamond heist connected to a violent family feud.

The case also brings some unresolved tension between Danny and Jamie to the surface, because apparently the Reagan family cannot get together without police work becoming part of the itinerary. For longtime Blue Bloods fans, seeing the brothers working together again should be a highlight of the night.

Awkwafina Heads Into the Kitchen, and ‘It Gets Worse’ Premieres

Apple TV premieres Awkwafina: The Unlikely Cook, an eight-episode docuseries following Nora Lum as she travels across the country to learn how to cook and explore her family's culinary history. Her family once operated a beloved Chinese restaurant in Flushing, Queens, but there's one rather important obstacle standing between Awkwafina and reviving that legacy: she doesn't actually know how to cook.

With help from chefs, family members and a few famous friends, she attempts to turn her lack of kitchen experience into something meaningful. It's a different kind of food series, mixing family history, cultural exploration and the potential for some truly questionable kitchen decisions.

Paramount+ also premieres It Gets Worse, a new scripted comedy from British comedian Leo Reich. Prime Video adds Devil's Crest, giving streaming audiences additional options alongside the night's broadcast favorites.

More Friday Night Highlights

NBC offers a lighter start to the evening with Happy's Place and Newlyweds, followed by Dateline NBC at 9 PM. ABC has Celebrity Wheel of Fortune featuring Steve Aoki, Connie Britton and Dulé Hill before a new 20/20 investigation examining the JonBenét Ramsey case.

Over on FOX, Nebraska faces Illinois in Friday night college football, while Hallmark and UPtv continue rolling out holiday movies. Christmas romance, true crime, football and a two-hour crossover event? Friday television has clearly decided to cover every possible mood.

The Sheriff Country and Fire Country crossover earns our Top Pick, with Boston Blue giving CBS a particularly strong Friday lineup. Whether you're tuning in for the Edgewater emergency or the Reagan brothers' reunion, there's plenty worth watching tonight.
