What to Watch Friday, October 16: ‘Tulsa King,’ ‘The Rainmaker’ & ‘Fire Country’ Lead Tonight's Lineup

Friday is bringing plenty of reasons to cancel those weekend plans. Sylvester Stallone returns as Dwight Manfredi in Tulsa King, The Rainmaker begins its second season, and CBS continues its Friday drama lineup with Sheriff Country, Fire Country and Boston Blue.
Streaming fans have several premieres to choose from, including Netflix's documentary about comedy legend Norm Macdonald, a new Chris Evans thriller and an Apple TV film starring Tom Hiddleston. Hallmark is also kicking off its annual Countdown to Christmas celebration, because October apparently isn't too early to start decorating the tree.
TV Cave Top Pick: Tulsa King
Our Top Pick goes to Tulsa King, returning for Season 4 today on Paramount+.
Sylvester Stallone is back as Dwight "The General" Manfredi, whose growing criminal empire is becoming increasingly difficult to control. Dwight wants to turn his operation into something legitimate, but corrupt politicians, dangerous rivals and personal losses threaten to drag him right back into the criminal world he's trying to escape.
The premiere, titled "W.W.D.D.," finds Dwight pushing forward with plans to expand his business. Unfortunately, ambition and organized crime aren't exactly a combination known for producing peaceful outcomes.
Season 4 also introduces Gretchen Mol to the cast, joining returning favorites including Martin Starr, Jay Will, Garrett Hedlund and Frank Grillo. With Dwight facing threats from multiple directions, his next chapter promises another complicated balancing act between loyalty, family and survival.

‘The Rainmaker’ Returns as CBS Keeps the Drama Coming
USA Network welcomes The Rainmaker back for Season 2 at 10 PM, with Milo Callaghan returning as attorney Rudy Baylor. After securing a major legal victory, Rudy quickly finds himself drawn into another complicated case involving a young boy serving time in juvenile detention. His investigation becomes considerably more uncomfortable when he discovers that his former girlfriend, Sarah, is representing the opposing side. Lana Parrilla and P.J. Byrne also return, while Merle Dandridge joins the cast as a powerful attorney.
Meanwhile, CBS continues its Friday lineup with three new episodes. Sheriff Country follows Mickey Fox as an undercover operation tests her trust in those closest to her, while Fire Country puts Bode and the firefighters against a dangerous wildfire threatening Edgewater.
At 10 PM, Boston Blue continues with "Ripple Effect," as Danny and Lena pursue another lead in their investigation. For fans of police procedurals and firefighter dramas, CBS has Friday night pretty well covered.
Netflix, Apple TV and Hallmark Deliver More Premieres
Netflix's biggest documentary release today is Norm: The Tale of Norm Macdonald, directed by Judd Apatow. Using archival material and personal footage, the film revisits the comedian's career, including his memorable years on Saturday Night Live.
Netflix also premieres Sacrifice, a satirical thriller starring Chris Evans and Anya Taylor-Joy. Evans plays a struggling movie star whose appearance at a glamorous charity event takes a dangerous turn when a radical group takes him hostage.
Over on Apple TV, Tenzing explores the historic Mount Everest expedition involving Tenzing Norgay and Edmund Hillary. The film stars Genden Phuntsok, Tom Hiddleston and Willem Dafoe, bringing one of mountaineering's most remarkable achievements to the screen.
And for anyone ready to skip Halloween and head straight into Christmas, Hallmark launches Countdown to Christmas with 'Tis the Season for Setups. Amanda Schull and Victor Webster star in a holiday romance involving two people attempting to play matchmaker for their parents.
Friday has a little something for everyone, from mob drama and courtroom battles to comedy documentaries and holiday romance. Tulsa King gets our Top Pick, but The Rainmaker and CBS's Friday lineup are giving fans plenty of competition for their attention.
