9-1-1: Nashville Season 2 Premiere Recap: Murder Hornets, Family Drama, and a New Detective

9-1-1: Nashville returned to ABC Thursday night with its Season 2 premiere, “Going Rogue,” bringing dangerous emergencies, an intriguing new detective and the continuing fallout from one of the messiest family feuds on television.
And because regular emergencies apparently aren't dramatic enough for Nashville, the 113 now has to deal with murder hornets. Welcome back to Music City!
Murder Hornets Take Over Nashville
Captain Don Hart (Chris O'Donnell) and his team at Station 113 face an unusual emergency when a museum becomes overrun by deadly hornets, trapping people inside and turning what should have been an ordinary visit into a nightmare.
The situation is particularly alarming because the museum's exits are blocked, leaving those inside with limited ways to escape. As the 113 responds, the emergency introduces a frightening possibility: Nashville's recent troubles may be more than a collection of unrelated disasters. If the franchise has taught fans anything, it's that no location is safe from catastrophe. Apparently, museums are now joining the growing list of places where you should probably keep an eye on the nearest exit.
Ryan Phillippe Arrives as Detective Rogue Kelly
The premiere also introduces Detective Rogue Kelly, played by Ryan Phillippe, who brings a different energy to Nashville's emergency response world. The former New York homicide detective investigates a disturbing series of crimes that appear to follow biblical themes. With the city experiencing increasingly unusual events, Rogue's investigation could become central to the season's larger mystery.
His arrival also gives 9-1-1: Nashville a dedicated law enforcement presence, something that has been a major part of the original 9-1-1 series. And with a name like Rogue Kelly, subtlety clearly wasn't part of the character introduction. He and Don do not get along at first. Seems like Don is threatened by his coolness and when Rogue accidentally picks up on some marital problems and choke's on a steak before helping Don makes it clear who runs the show.
Blythe and Dixie's Battle Is Far From Over
Of course, it wouldn't be 9-1-1: Nashville without somebody in the Hart family making an already complicated situation exponentially worse. Season 1 ended with Blythe (Jessica Capshaw) and Dixie (LeAnn Rimes) getting into a vicious physical confrontation after months of manipulation, resentment, and arguments involving Don. Dixie's attempts to interfere with Don and Blythe's marriage finally pushed Blythe past her breaking point. What started as a bitter rivalry exploded into violence, leaving fans wondering what consequences would follow.
The Season 2 premiere addresses the aftermath of that confrontation, with both women facing repercussions and Don paying a price of his own. They are on house arrest with mandatory group therapy. Let's be clear: nobody in this situation has been particularly interested in behaving like an adult. Between Dixie's schemes, Don's questionable decisions, and Blythe finally losing her patience, this family has enough problems to keep several therapists employed.
The second season of 9-1-1: Nashville has an intriguing setup, combining the franchise's outrageous rescue scenarios with an ongoing criminal mystery and the Hart family's increasingly complicated relationships. The show was missing the cop element so I am interested to see how Rogue becomes a member of the family.
Also, we NEED more Blue and Taylor, fix that. Can Nashville balance its larger mystery with the family drama that defined its first season? With biblical plagues threatening the city and the Hart family still struggling to keep its relationships intact, peaceful days seem unlikely.
9-1-1: Nashville airs Thursdays at 9 p.m. ET on ABC and streams the following day on Hulu.
