The Rainmaker Season 2: Libby Kay Teases Megan's True Loyalties and Talks Merle Dandridge — Exclusive

The Rainmaker has never been a show where trusting the wrong person comes without consequences, and Season 2 is bringing even more questionable alliances into the courtroom. With powerful attorney Amanda Vonn (Merle Dandridge) shaking things up, there's another woman fans should be keeping their eyes on: Megan Grenier, played by Libby Kay.
Introduced as Amanda's razor-sharp right hand, Megan isn't exactly someone who seems interested in making friends or wasting time. She's intelligent, confident, and perfectly comfortable holding her own alongside one of the most intimidating attorneys in the room. But as we've learned from The Rainmaker, there's usually more happening beneath the surface than anyone is willing to admit.
In an exclusive interview with The TV Cave, Kay opened up about stepping into Megan's world, her character's complicated moral compass, and what it was like sharing scenes with Dandridge. She also dished on Megan's initial impressions of Sarah Plankmore and teased a surprising revelation about where her character's loyalties truly lie. And judging by that last tease, fans might want to reconsider everything they think they know about Megan.
Finding the Woman Behind Megan Grenier
The TV Cave: Megan Grenier is introduced as the razor-sharp right hand to Amanda Vonn, who certainly isn’t someone you’d want to cross. What drew you to Megan, and how would you describe the woman behind that professional exterior?
Libby Kay: There's an ease to the way Megan moves through the world that doesn't come as easily to me, I knew playing her would be so much fun and hoped some of the confidence would rub off on me, which I like to think it did. "Professional" is a little bit of a stretch in my opinion, based on some of the absolutely rogue things she says. But I would say that behind the sharp exterior is just an incredibly intelligent woman who feels no need to prove herself.
Megan's Loyalty to Amanda Vonn
The TV Cave: Working alongside someone as powerful and intimidating as Amanda Vonn must come with its own challenges. Does Megan genuinely admire Amanda, or is there an element of fear, ambition, or self-preservation driving that loyalty?
Libby Kay: Megan deeply admires Amanda, but she's not a sycophant. She recognises that Amanda is at the top of her field and an absolute powerhouse, but she does not need her approval, something I imagine Amanda rather appreciates in her own cold and unyielding way.
Does Winning Come Before Doing What's Right?
The TV Cave: The Rainmaker thrives on characters who aren’t always on the right side of the moral line. Where does Megan draw that line? Is she someone who will challenge questionable decisions, or does winning come first?
Libby Kay: Megan loves to win, but she has a surprisingly strong moral compass. On one hand she won't let much get in the way of her success, but on the other hand she would drop everything for a good cause.

Working With Merle Dandridge
The TV Cave: You share this storyline with Merle Dandridge, whose character is shaking things up this season. What was it like working with her, and how did the two of you develop Megan and Amanda’s dynamic?
Libby Kay: I LOVE MERLE!!! She was such a dream to work with, so grounded and silly and fun. I had a coach say to me in prep that there is a real art to being a supporting character, so my mission from day one was to help uphold Amanda's high status in every scene. Merle reciprocated by being my go-to person for any question about how a set operates. I'll never forget the day I discreetly asked "what's block shooting" about an hour after she mentioned we might be "block shooting" and we had a little giggle and then she explained it to me very quietly so nobody would know I'm still very new to this :'). I've come away with a bestie for life.
Megan's First Impression of Sarah Plankmore
The TV Cave: With Amanda becoming Sarah Plankmore’s new boss, there’s an interesting professional dynamic developing within the firm. How does Megan view Sarah’s arrival, and should fans expect cooperation, competition, or a little of both?
Libby Kay: In the beginning, I don't think Megan thinks much of Sarah. She has a terrible reputation and Megan sees her excessive flattery of Amanda as a weak attempt to get a job at their firm. But I think it just takes a moment for Megan to recognise that beneath the grasping exterior is someone genuinely intelligent, gutsy and capable.
A Major Surprise About Megan's Loyalties
The TV Cave: Without giving away any major spoilers, what’s one thing about Megan that might surprise fans as Season 2 unfolds? Is there more to her than being Amanda Vonn’s trusted right hand?
Libby Kay: I think there's a LOT about Megan that will surprise fans. We get to learn more about her background and what makes her so well suited to being Amanda's right hand. But I think the biggest surprise is discovering where Megan's loyalties truly lie.
There's More to Megan Than Meets the Eye
If there's one thing Kay makes clear, it's that Megan Grenier shouldn't be underestimated. She may work alongside Amanda Vonn, but that doesn't necessarily mean she's following anyone blindly. Between her ambition, unexpected moral compass, and evolving opinion of Sarah Plankmore, Megan has the potential to become one of Season 2's more intriguing wild cards.
We're also loving the friendship Kay developed with Dandridge behind the scenes. The two may play characters navigating the cutthroat legal world, but their real-life dynamic sounds considerably warmer, complete with secret on-set lessons and plenty of laughs.
As for Megan's true loyalties? Kay isn't giving that secret away just yet, and we're not about to ruin the fun by guessing. But in a series where nearly everyone has an agenda, we'd suggest keeping a close eye on Amanda Vonn's trusted right hand.
The Rainmaker airs Fridays at 10 p.m. ET/PT on USA Network.
