The Paper Season 2 Trailer Drops: Peacock’s Newsroom Comedy Is Back With Bigger Stories and Bigger Trouble

The presses are rolling again, and apparently the staff of the Toledo Truth Teller still has not learned the fine art of staying out of trouble. Peacock has dropped the Season 2 trailer for The Paper, giving fans a fresh look at the workplace comedy’s return and teasing more ambitious reporting, complicated relationships and some seriously questionable decisions.

All episodes of The Paper Season 2 premiere September 9, 2026, exclusively on Peacock. The new season picks up after the newspaper staff’s big showing at the Ohio Journalism Awards, but the celebration does not appear to last very long.

The Paper Season 2 Trailer Teases a New Round of Trouble

Season 2 finds editor in chief Ned Sampson looking for his next big journalistic crusade after the Toledo Truth Teller earns recognition at the Ohio Journalism Awards. Naturally, Ned does not seem interested in taking the easy route. His attention turns toward a local private club, setting up a story that could put the future of the newspaper in serious jeopardy.

That feels very on brand for Ned. Give the man a struggling newspaper that is finally getting some positive attention and his first instinct is apparently to find another potentially dangerous story to chase.

The trailer also gives viewers a glimpse at the personal side of the newsroom. Ned and Mare are still trying to figure out exactly what is happening between them, while Esmeralda continues searching for her place within the staff. Meanwhile, the reporters are becoming more confident in their work as they gradually grow into the journalists they are supposed to be.

And because this is The Paper, professional growth apparently comes with plenty of opportunities to make questionable choices.

The Office Connection Still Gives The Paper Extra Appeal

The Paper comes from Greg Daniels and Michael Koman, giving the series a strong creative connection to The Office without simply trying to recreate Dunder Mifflin. The premise follows the same documentary crew that filmed the Scranton branch as they turn their cameras toward a historic Midwestern newspaper in Toledo, Ohio.

That change of setting continues to be one of the show's biggest strengths. Instead of another office full of paper salespeople, viewers get a newsroom filled with reporters, editors and personalities who are trying to keep a struggling publication alive while figuring out what journalism looks like in their increasingly digital world.

Domhnall Gleeson Leads The Paper Season 2 Cast

Domhnall Gleeson returns as Ned Sampson, with Sabrina Impacciatore back as managing editor Esmeralda Grand and Chelsea Frei returning as Mare Pritti. The Season 2 ensemble also includes Melvin Gregg, Gbemisola Ikumelo, Alex Edelman, Ramona Young, Tim Key, Eric Rahill, Duane Shepard Sr. and Oscar Nuñez.

Nuñez, of course, brings an especially familiar face to the series for The Office fans. His return as Oscar Martinez gives viewers another connection to the original series, but The Paper has continued building its own group of characters rather than depending entirely on nostalgia.

That is especially important heading into Season 2. The series has a newsroom full of personalities worth following, and the new season appears ready to give those characters more room to develop.
