All American Season 8 Episode 6 Review: “Rebel Without a Pause” Takes a Dark Turn

All American Season 8 Episode 6, “Rebel Without a Pause,” takes a much more serious turn as Amina’s fight to make her voice heard puts her directly in the middle of a terrifying situation at Crenshaw. With the showcase just days away, KJ dealing with the fallout from his breakup with Tori, and Cliff continuing to stir up trouble for Cassius and Jordan, there’s already plenty happening before ICE shows up at the school and changes everything. And somehow, that isn’t even the only major problem we need to worry about by the end of the episode. Because seriously, where is Coop?!

It's Thursday, two days until the showcase, and we pick up with Amina writing her letter, presumably the one that eventually got her kicked out. She's also the narrator throughout the episode, while we see KJ still calling Tori trying to fix things. Jordan is preparing to leave and looking for Khalil, but he isn't home. Then he gets a text from Cassius about a meeting at noon for the showcase.

We get some moments between Amina and Julio, the subject of her letter. She feels like her silence is what caused him and his family to be deported, but before she can really get into it, her father lets her know it's time to go.

KJ and Khalil meet up at the gym for their workout, and they kind of apologize for what happened at the dinner. But both agree that this is strictly business and they don't need to talk about anything else.

Jordan is pissed that he didn't know about this last-minute meeting for the press conference. He really doesn't like Cliff and is trying to warn Cassius, but Cassius doesn't care. His attitude through all of this is honestly hilarious. Preach has set up a meeting with Amina's headmistress, but until then, she will be working at the school and isn't supposed to leave his side. He tells her to try not to do something that will explode her life. Of course, Amina being Amina, that's probably easier said than done.

KJ and Amina have an awkward exchange, and she finds out that he and Tori broke up. Then Amina says she feels like Tori should be okay because it wasn't a big deal. EXCUSE ME?!? Preach gives Jordan some really good advice about the beef between Cliff and Cassius, while also getting made fun of for eating oatmeal in his 30s. I love Preach, man!

Jordan has a meeting with the team about the press conference for the showcase, and of course Khalil brings up the Beverly coaching job. He does too much, as usual, and Jordan ends up telling the team about him training with KJ. Cliff is trying to get Cassius to scoop up a new player for the team, but Cassius isn't going for any of it. Meanwhile, Amina tries to talk to Khalil, but he blows her off. Then they get notified that ICE has shown up at the school. And the vice principal is HORRIBLE.

KJ walks into his dad's office and Cliff is there. KJ starts singing Cliff's praises, but he accidentally reveals that they are related to Jordan, and Cliff immediately starts making phone calls. Amina, of course, can't help herself. She starts talking to the agents while Khalil, Macy, and their other friends start rounding up kids and getting them into Preach's classroom. But ICE turns their attention toward Ms. Perez, and Amina jumps right in between them.

Amina tries getting in touch with Coop, but she isn't answering her calls or texts. Meanwhile, the press conference is happening, and Cassius is doing most of the talking. Then Cliff jumps in and reveals that he and Cassius are cousins.

The conference gets interrupted by alerts about the ICE raid, but Jordan walks out and tells Cassius, "Good luck handling Cliff." Cassius confronts Mosley about what happened, and Cliff lets him know that he talked to Cassius' father. He's going to do whatever it takes to save "his team."

KJ starts organizing a walkout with the football team in support of Crenshaw. Cassius tries to talk him out of it because of Cliff and the boosters, but KJ makes a strong argument. Cassius eventually tells Cliff that he didn't become a coach just to stack up wins. If he or the boosters have a problem with that, that's not his problem.

Meanwhile, Preach is stuck dealing with an entire army of ICE agents who keep saying, "This type of behavior isn't welcome in this country." Amina is standing up for what she believes is right, even when some of her classmates don't understand. Her speech makes Ms. Perez smile, and she starts telling them her own story about how she came to this country. Technically, she's undocumented too.

Preach eventually lets Amina know that the students at Beverly have staged a walkout in support of her, and he tells her how proud he is. They're ready to come out of the classroom, but ICE has other plans. They bust through the windows and kick through the doors with guns drawn. They start cuffing every brown student, and one kid gets thrown into a wall. Amina gets arrested, and Preach tries desperately to get to her, but ICE blocks him.

They walk everyone out of the school while the Crenshaw students and staff watch in disbelief. They're loaded into a van, and Jordan and KJ arrive just in time to see the aftermath. Then we jump over to Coop's office. We see her phone sitting there, but we don't see Coop. WHERE IS COOP?!? Overall, "Rebel Without a Pause" was another episode filled with drama, but this one felt different because of how real the situation with ICE became. Amina has been making some questionable decisions all season, but watching her stand up for other people when she knows she could put herself in danger was a powerful moment.

And now we have to wait and find out what happened to Coop. Because between the ICE raid, Cliff making moves behind Cassius' back, KJ organizing a walkout, and Coop disappearing, this show has me asking WAY too many questions going into the next episode.

All American is definitely not slowing down.
