HBO's Task Season 2 Adds Jharrel Jerome to an Already Incredible Cast

HBO is doing that thing again where they assemble a cast so ridiculously talented it almost feels like bragging. Just when we thought Mark Ruffalo’s gritty Philadelphia-suburb crime drama couldn’t pack any more punch, the network went ahead and dropped a casting bomb. Emmy winner Jharrel Jerome is officially joining the cast of Task Season 2, and honestly, our watchlists are already screaming. Whew.
Jerome is set to play Jordan Barnes, the son of a DEA agent portrayed by none other than Mahershala Ali. Let that sink in. We are getting an Ali and Jerome father-son dynamic. If your dramatic-acting bingo card didn't include these two sharing screen time to deal with severe family and systemic tension, go ahead and update it immediately. Bethlehem Million is also on board to play Jordan’s sister, Lisa Barnes, rounding out a family unit that is guaranteed to deliver the heavy-hitting emotional beats this series loves to milk.
The freshman season of the series established a grueling, morally gray world led by Ruffalo’s Tom Brandis. Season 2 promises to push those boundaries even further as a new task force navigates the working-class Philly suburbs. The operations are set to get so messy that finding the actual target becomes a chore. Jerome’s character is right in the thick of it, bringing his signature raw intensity to a landscape already populated by heavyweights like Edgar Ramírez, Julian Nicholson, and Harry Melling. HBO also announced a massive wave of supporting talent alongside Jerome, including Tim Blake Nelson and Kevin Dunn, proving they have no intention of letting up on the gas.
Jerome has already proven he can carry massive dramatic weight, from his breathtaking work in Moonlight to his searing, Emmy-winning performance in When They See Us. Seeing him step into the dark, complex universe of an HBO crime procedural is exactly what we need.
