'Sweet Magnolias' Season 4 Episode 10 "Do Not Be Afraid" Review

It is still the most wonderful time of the year in Serenity, and the season 4 finale of Sweet Magnolias brings joyful noise, surprise visits, and dreams come true for our favorite citizens. 

Episode 10, titled “Do Not Be Afraid,” starts with Cal surprising Maddie as she frosts snowman cookies. Maddie tries to find excuses not to accept the marketing job in New York and says it’s not the right time to go. However, Cal assures her that people make the best decisions they can and hope the timing works out. 

In the Mayor’s office, Peggy and Helen encourage Henrietta to apply for the town manager position, assuring her that she’s the key to their success and she’s been steady in their pursuit to make the city thrive.

 Dana Sue cries happy tears about Annie being accepted into the college of her dreams, and says they’ll figure out the financial aspect because they love each other and support each other’s dreams.

 Helen and Erik are putting up Christmas decorations when the doorbell rings. Turns out, it’s Helen’s mom, leaving her ecstatic and Erik grinning, as he had put the surprise together.

 In a heartfelt moment, Kyle, Paula, Cal, and Katie put together a presentation to convince Maddie to take the marketing job. They tell her that she deserves to have new opportunities and adventures, just like she has encouraged them to do.

Tyannie fans will go wild when Ty surprises Annie at her house with his rendition of “We Wish You a Merry Christmas.” They share a sweet embrace, and Annie tells him they have all the time to catch up after he surprises his family first.

 At the spa, Maddie finally breaks the news to her best friends about her job offer. They tell her that she should take the job and insist that she call them every day, to share every detail of her big moments. They will miss each other deeply. 

It’s a Christmas themed margarita night and the girls are decorating the tree at the spa. Maddie tells them about the proposed deal memo, and she admits it’s not what she thought it would be. Helen helps with a better counteroffer, encouraging Maddie to know what she’s worth. They toast to believing that great things are possible. 

While they’re opening gifts, Annie tells Ty about her acceptance into college, and he’s so proud of her. They declare that they will make their relationship work, but Ty neglects to tell her about his own news about him and Olivia touring in Europe! 

Romance is in the air when Isaac and Michael and Kyle and Lily dance in the town to “This Christmas.” Both couples share sweet kisses. 

Nothing could prepare viewers for the epic proposal of the season. Erik asks Helen to marry him in a beautiful speech, telling her that he yearns for her to be his wife. She is shocked, left speechless, but nothing would stop her from saying yes. Their love and happiness are contagious. 

More shock comes when Pastor June starts having contractions while giving her sermon. Her husband and Erik get her to the hospital. In her place, Helen sings a wonderful song leaving everyone overjoyed.

 The joyous episode concludes with an unforgettable and unpredictable Christmas party at the spa, attended by everyone in town. Erik and Helen share the news of their engagement with their friends, Ronnie receives a job offer from Paula’s millionaire boyfriend, Ty’s tour news causes tension in his relationship with Annie, and the Sweet Magnolias promise to fill their friendship with love no matter where life goes for them. 

The full season 4 of Sweet Magnolias is now streaming on Netflix. Will there be a season 5? Viewers all across the world sure hope so.
