‘Sheriff Country’ Season 2 Trailer Pushes Mickey to Her Breaking Point

Edgewater is calling us back, but judging by the first official trailer for Sheriff Country Season 2, Sheriff Mickey Fox might need a vacation before she starts protecting anybody else.

CBS has released the trailer for the sophomore season of the Fire Country spinoff, and Mickey (Morena Baccarin) is dealing with considerably more than the latest crimes hitting her hometown. Season 2 premieres Friday, October 9 at 8/7c, picking up after the family bombshell that closed out the show's first season.

Mickey learned that her mother, Eva Santos (Rachel Ticotin), wasn't actually dead after all. Making that revelation even messier, Eva is the Deputy Director of the DEA and has returned looking for Mickey and Wes' help as a dangerous cartel begins making moves in Edgewater.

The trailer makes it pretty clear that Mickey isn't simply brushing off 35 years of family baggage and heading back to work.

We see a noticeably shaken Mickey struggling under the weight of everything happening around her, while Boone (Matt Lauria) voices concern about whether his sheriff is actually okay. The answer, at least from what CBS is showing us right now, appears to be a pretty firm no.

Of course, Edgewater isn't going to stop producing problems just because Mickey has some serious family issues to work through. The Season 2 premiere, titled “Cyclone,” finds Mickey racing to help a troubled young woman whose involvement in a dangerous criminal operation exposes a larger threat to the community. She'll also be getting some assistance from another sheriff and CBS found a particularly fun actor to fill that role.

Ben McKenzie makes his Sheriff Country debut as Sheriff Wade, a neighboring lawman brought in to help Mickey with the case. The casting gives viewers a reunion between McKenzie and Baccarin, who previously starred together on Gotham and are married in real life.

McKenzie's appearance isn't the only crossover action coming this season, either.

CBS has confirmed that Sheriff Country and Fire Country will come together for a two-hour crossover event on Friday, November 6. With both shows firmly established in Edgewater, bringing the two sides of the franchise together for a larger story feels like a natural next move and we're definitely curious to see how much bigger this shared universe becomes.

Amanda Arcuri and Ian Quinlan have also been promoted to series regulars for Season 2, returning as Skye and Deputy Hank, respectively.

If Season 1 was about establishing Mickey Fox and her corner of Edgewater, Season 2 looks ready to make her life considerably more complicated. Family secrets, cartel trouble, another sheriff entering her territory and an upcoming Fire Country crossover? Mickey's going to have her hands full.

Sheriff Country Season 2 premieres Friday, October 9 at 8/7c on CBS and will stream on Paramount+.
