Talk about keeping it in the family! Ben McKenzie is joining CBS’ Sheriff Country Season 2 as a guest star, and his co-star just happens to be his real-life wife, Morena Baccarin. Yep, the former Gotham co-stars are sharing the screen again, but this time they're trading Gotham City for Edgewater.
McKenzie will play Sheriff Jim Wade, a neighboring sheriff who arrives to assist Mickey Fox, played by Baccarin, with a dangerous case. Wade's appearance is set for the Season 2 premiere, titled “Cyclone,” which is scheduled to air Friday, October 9 at 8/7c on CBS.
Of course, because this is Sheriff Country, Wade's arrival isn't going to be completely straightforward. The character comes into Mickey's world to help with an investigation, but he reportedly has secrets of his own. That immediately raises one very important question: can Mickey actually trust the sheriff who has come to help her?
We're guessing she's going to have a few questions. The casting is also a fun reunion for fans who remember McKenzie and Baccarin from Gotham. McKenzie starred as James Gordon on the DC drama, while Baccarin played Leslie Thompkins. The two eventually married in real life, making their latest television reunion an especially fun bit of casting.

Now, instead of investigating crimes in Gotham, the pair are facing trouble in Edgewater. Baccarin's Mickey is at the center of Sheriff Country, following her work as the sheriff who is tasked with protecting her community while also dealing with complicated family dynamics.
McKenzie's addition gives Season 2 another familiar face while also introducing a character who could create some interesting complications for Mickey. Since Wade is currently being billed as a guest star, viewers will have to wait and see whether his appearance is limited to the premiere or if the character could return later in the season.
The Season 2 premiere will find Mickey dealing with a major situation involving her family while also trying to help a troubled young woman whose connection to a dangerous criminal operation puts more than one person at risk. Wade's arrival could give Mickey another set of eyes on the case, but his mysterious side could make things more complicated than expected.
The official logline reads, "As Sheriff Mickey Fox struggles to process a shocking revelation about her family, she races to save a troubled young woman whose descent into a dangerous criminal operation uncovers a growing threat to all of Edgewater. Ben McKenzie guest stars as Sheriff Wade, a neighboring Sheriff who is called in to assist Sheriff Mickey, and has a few secrets of his own."
And we're definitely here for it. Seeing Ben McKenzie and Morena Baccarin back on screen together is already enough to make Gotham fans nostalgic, but putting them into a new television world gives this reunion a fresh twist.
Sheriff Country Season 2 premieres Friday, October 9 at 8/7c on CBS. With Mickey facing new threats and Sheriff Wade bringing some secrets of his own, Edgewater is going to have plenty to deal with when the series returns.
