S.W.A.T. Exiles Trailer Brings Hondo Out of Retirement for a Gritty New Mission

Updated: 23 hours ago

Six LAPD tactical officers in black gear pose with rifles in a dim garage, looking stern and ready.

Hold onto your tactical gear, tv fans, because everyone’s favorite bulletproof team is officially refusing to stay dead. Just when you thought the CBS procedural machine had squeezed the final drop of sweat out of Daniel "Hondo" Harrelson, the television gods gave us a resurrection. The first quick teaser for Starz’s S.W.A.T. Exiles just dropped and it looks like a completely different beast. Forget the bright, predictable network procedurals of yesteryear; this new iteration is leaning hard into its premium cable upgrade.

The freshly released teaser offers a tantalizing first look at what happens when you take a broadcast television staple and dump it directly into the grittier waters of premium cable. If you thought the original run had high stakes, this spinoff is upping the ante with a darker atmosphere, higher-caliber drama, and a team that makes the old squad look like a bunch of straight-A Boy Scouts.

Forced Retirement Is So Last Season

What is this series about? How do they drag Hondo back into the line of fire? What we know is that a Hondo trying his best to enjoy a peaceful, forced retirement. Naturally, that peace lasts about five seconds. After a high-stakes law enforcement mission goes spectacularly awry in the public eye, the entire S.W.A.T. program finds itself on the literal brink of extinction.

To save the department's reputation, Hondo is tasked with commanding an experimental, "last-chance" unit. The catch? His new squad isn't made of top-tier academy graduates. Instead, we get a group of unpredictable, unrefined, and completely untested young recruits. These are the "Exiles"—misfits who have been rejected or cast out by mainstream law enforcement programs for being just a little too reckless. Hondo is officially running a high-stakes daycare for tactical rebels.

New Blood Meets Old School Grit

While Shemar Moore’s commanding presence anchors the trailer, the teaser does an excellent job showcasing the new generation of actors stepping into the fray. We catch quick, high-energy glimpses of new series regulars Ronen Rubinstein, Lucy Barrett, Adain Bradley, Zyra Gorecki, and Freddy Miyares. They look sharp, hungry, and entirely unprepared for Hondo’s strict brand of discipline.

Mark Your Calendars for September

Behind the scenes, showrunner Jason Ning is steering this 10-episode season into much scrappier territory. S.W.A.T. Exiles is scheduled to officially premiere on September 25, 2026. New episodes will drop weekly on Fridays.
